Who: Carmen Torres, featuring Kevin Tran
What: Dreamland discussion as Carmen tries to figure out who's sharing her mind, thanks to Sam's advice
Where: Dreamworld!
When: Last night, Wednesday April 17, some time in the middle of the night
Warnings: Mentions of some trauma involving both Carmen's past and Kevin's
Carmen had come up with the idea to try to dream her way into speaking to the other voice inside her mind. She'd tried speaking mentally, but having no practice at it and no training, she didn't have any luck. Or, maybe it was because Kevin was a bit paranoid...with good reason, or so Carmen thought. If everything this Sam was telling her was true (and who was she to disbelieve it?), then maybe it wouldn't be so bad to try to track down this other person who was having these terrifying dreams. Whatever was happening, Carmen wanted answers, and the scientist within her was willing to experiment. A hunter, if she believed this Sam. How interesting. He certainly seemed very knowledgeable about everything and again, his story seemed to have a ring of truth to it.
So curling up on the sofa in the living room of her small apartment, Carmen tried to force herself to dream. She closed her eyes, letting herself drift into the depths of her own mind. Within what felt like minutes, Carmen fell into a sleep...but it was far from pleasant.
"Hello?" she called out anxiously, hoping that she really was asleep like she thought. If she wasn't, she was sure to sound crazy talking to herself out loud! "Hello, can you hear me? I promise I'm not a demon." Focusing her memory, she tried to recreate the trap that Sam had explained to her, the image that had popped into her mind constantly for the past few nights. Carefully she drew it around where she stood using chalk, hoping it was accurate, then carefully stepped out of it, purposefully stepping over the lines so she didn't break them at all. "See? I promise I'm not a demon. I'm...my name is Carmen. I'd like to help you, whoever you are!"
"Carmen?" a boy's voice repeated after her, from behind her. Carmen whirled, startled, nearly dropping the piece of chalk she'd carried with her. "And you're not a demon." There was a young man standing in front of her, who looked a bit tired from Carmen's opinion. She peered at him carefully, trying to figure him out without asking directly. He was of an average height, of Asian descent, probably Chinese just judging by his looks. His hair was a bit untidy, he looked like he hadn't slept well in weeks if not longer. He offered her a tired smile.
"No, I'm not a demon, if I did that right," she replied, motioning to the trap she'd created. "Does the name Sam mean anything to you? He explained it to me, said you might be something called a hunter." The boy looked up at that, a little surprised.
"Sam? Sam Winchester? Yeah, that name does mean something to me. Is Dean around, too? They're probably not too far apart," admitted the boy, then he offered after a moment, "I'm Kevin. I guess...I'm sorry I didn't acknowledge you before. It's a bit hard to explain."
Carmen frowned, then wondered what to say to that. What could be so hard to explain? He looked perfectly normal. Just knew some strange stuff about demons. She opened her mouth to say something, then peered back at the boy, finding him further away from her than he'd been a moment ago. The edges were fuzzy, blending together with the background, fading away into the nothingness that existed in the dream state even when one was awake. "Kevin?" she called out, trying to move, trying to run closer to the boy. "Kevin!" Her voice sounded hollow, echoing in the still of the dream that surrounded her. She nearly winced at the loudness of it, though everything else around her remained as quiet as a whisper. "Kevin!"
She could hear the faint sound of something beeping, a continuous tone, beeping soundly and smoothly. Beep, beep, beep...the sound that a truck would make when it was backing up, but there were no vehicles around here. What was going on? He'd been there just a moment before!
...and with a gasp, Carmen sat up, startled. She ran a hand through her hair, rubbing her eyes tiredly. It was still dark. What was going on? She sought out the nearest clock in the aftermath haze of coming out of a dream, staring at the fuzzy red numbers until they blurred into focus. Five forty five. Ugh. There was no way that kid was awake again. But at least she knew who it was. Flopping back down onto her sofa, Carmen closed her eyes and tried to go back to sleep, her mind whirling with the new information. She guessed....she should try to contact them again. Sam, and the other one, Dean. The scientist in her wasn't really willing to let it go until she'd solved this mystery, and the child that still lived within her remembered her childhood filled with stories about the Bible. If they were involved with demons, she could do something to help, right? Or, well, she had to try.
