Narrative: Geoff
Who: Geoff Bianchi
When: 4 A.M. - Tuesday Morning.
Where: The Streets of Vegas
What: Geoff walks home from a night shift at the casino and the voice just won't stop it.
Warnings: None
"What do you want?" Geoff muttered to no one as he walked down the familiar path from work the same way he did every night. He drew a few curious glances to which he tipped his head down and focused on the ground. He tried hard not to look conspicuous in his long sleeve shirt, jacket and skull cap. The desert nights got to be too cold and his thin form bled away excess heat.
Me? A little song a little dance... The response was followed up with a little laugh that sent a chill down Geoff's spine.
"My two left feet would ruin any chance of that." Geoff muttered back darkly as he rounded the corner, his hands slipping into his pockets. He kept to the shadows to avoid standing out as some crazy vagabond.
Awwww.. Isn't it obvious, Jeff? I want you to be happy. The malicious entity cooed back. The voice had pronounced his name with the same flat tone most American's used. The words drew a snort of derision from the twenty-something dealer.
"That's rich." Geoff came to a stop at a cross walk, his foot tapping out the seconds before he moved forward during a lull in traffic. He cast a glance over his shoulder, feeling as if someone was watching him. He chalked the sensation up to paranoia and kept his brisk pace.
No but you wish to be. Geoff's pace slowed considerably and he felt a phantom sensation that someone was whispering into his ear. You want the fame and the fortune. You want to perform. Make daddy laugh, right? The mocking laughter came back and Geoff nearly broke into a run as if that would help him escape the voice.
"Shut. Up." He puffed out as he crossed the street, car horns blaring angrily at him.
You can have all of that Geoff. But you refuse to take it. Despite himself Geoff found his interest piqued even as he crossed through into his complex. You've set up all these rules, hoping that they'll save you from your father's fate. Hoping that they'll save you from failure. From loneliness. The stairs seemed to whiz by under his feet and he crossed the last little bit of hallway to his apartment. But in doing so, you've failed to understand one simple truth.
"And what's that?" Geoff said, his voice barely a whisper. The door closed shut behind him.
The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules. Geoff leaned back against the door and slid slowly to the ground. He sat that way for a while, the voice making not a sound. Finally Geoff decided to speak up.
"What did you have in mind?"
