Okay, so maybe the kitty got a little greedy.

She’d spent a week chasing down this little green necklace. A week making the Las Vegas blonde come through the door for four hours a night. A week spent with paws all over her. A week spent sore from things that had nothing to do with scaling buildings or crossing Gotham’s skyline. So the kitty thought she’d earned a few extra shiny things beyond what the baby bird had asked of her.

The mafia boss she was working for was a kingpin for the Ivgene Clan, and his name was Bone, and Selina knew him, which was bad news for him, really. See, Selina didn’t generally hurt people. She was in it for the baubles, for the Bat’s attention, for the thrill of it. She normally didn’t go into a job looking to hurt anyone, but it was personal with the Ivgene Clan. Really, really personal.

And, so, the kitty got greedy.

She walked into the Moffat building (next door neighbor to Wayne Tower) that night like she had every night for the past week. A dress that clung in all the right places, a red wig, and a willing smile. The club was packed, which was expected, and she swished her way right back into the boss’ room. See, the kitty had spent the week getting very, very close to the crown jewels, and she intended to make her employer pay before she walked away with his entire shiny stash.

She normally stayed away from guns, because they could be turned on her if she wasn’t careful, but tonight was special. And, anyway, she only needed one tiny, expanding bullet, and that’s all she loaded in the gun that was carefully tucked into her garter. Her whip was wrapped around her waist, an inconspicuous belt on the blood red dress, and she walked into the back room and put a bullet right in Bone’s bone.

He wasn’t expecting it, Bone, and she leaned over him as he screamed and gave him a big kiss on the lips. “Didn’t recognize me, did you?” she asked, and of course he hadn’t. Getting into places, that’s what she was good at. And she didn’t expect him to remember her without the bat she’d used to break his face the last time they’d met, but Batman had kept her from finishing him off then, and what had come of it? Lola had died. That’s what.

He screamed again, which brought his dogs running, but she didn’t care. She had the jewels - the shiny green necklace and everything else besides - in a bag against her back by then. And his jewels? Well, those weren’t going to be any good to anyone ever again.

The fight to get past his men and out was a dance, but then fighting always was with her. She didn’t have her claws or her gear, and she was at a definite disadvantage.

It was the best fight she’d had in weeks.

She left four men in her wake, bruised and broken, as she swung her whip over to Wayne Tower and slipped into the ventilation system there, barefoot, bruised, dress torn and wig MIA. If she set off some alarms, so be it. The kitty was long gone before anyone came to check, the pretty green necklace and a few hundred thousand dollars worth of diamonds gone right along with her.

Time to get in touch with a baby bird.
