It was like she could feel herself tearing in two. He tried to make it seem like it wasn't such a big deal, him admitting to not caring for her, but it was. She had given up her professional career for him before she'd shown up in Bailey's head, had fallen in love with him in a way she'd never thought possible. He'd been a patient, after all. And here? Here she'd given up Ivy, the woman who had kept her safe from Catwoman, Batman, and the brats. She'd put up with her childish antics, allowed her babies to stay with them in the Greenhouse. Sure, the fact that the redhead had taken her Belladonna was a sour point, but with the baby gone, she could see a little more clearly. After the party, it was all too easy to listen to the voice in the back of her mind. Who cared if it just so happened to sound suspiciously like Ivy? Harley packed what few things she had at the apartment in a small suitcase but there was still the matter of her pets. They couldn't go back to the zoo, she knew that. Maybe...maybe they could stay with her, just for a little while. They needed their Mama. But if you're going straight and narrow, it means you don't get to have pet Hyenas. "Baby steps. I'm taking baby steps, okay?" She muttered aloud, leading them into a stolen can they had out back. She'd have to ditch it fast but that was doable. First, she needed to find a place to live. There were apartments in a shitty part of Gotham that she knew she could muscle her way into for the short term. Her hyenas could protect her space too. Until you figure out what to do with them. "Right, yea. O'course." She found the place with relative ease and picked an apartment on the third floor. If anyone looked at the blonde funny, with two hyenas tailing her, she didn't notice. Or maybe she didn't care. Christine was gone and the stupid fucking boy she had was a useless piece of shit. She couldn't even figure out where the other woman was from and Sam...she didn't like Sam. There was no way she'd ask her. She'd skinned Mister J, strip by glorious strip, because he'd killed a girl and belittled the woman who warmed his bed. That's you. "I know it was me! I know I did it!" She wasn't even upset about killing the skeleton man. She was pissed that it had been Joker, glad it hadn't been someone from their door she'd killed him over, but the actual killing? She had loved it and that terrified her. Licking the blood off a knife? Who did that? Joker does, I'd bet. Harley just shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. They were inside the run down apartment and the blonde dropped to her knees. "Ok babies, Mama's gotta go say goodbye to Auntie Ivy and then I gotta stop by school," she told them, affectionately petting and snuggling both of them. "I'll be back soon. Bite anyone we don't like." She got all the way to the door before adding, "Mister J too." If Hyenas could smile, those two were, but Harley didn't notice. She needed to dump the car, needed to tell Ivy she was okay, and then she needed to figure out a plan. Looks like someone's finally figuring it out. She ignored the voice. The car was dumped over by the docks, keys in the ignition. If someone else stole it, well that wasn't her problem. It'd be theirs if the Joker found them. That taken care of, she made her way over to Ivy's greenhouse to leave a note. There was so much that she wanted to say but she just didn't have the words or the time. Instead, it was just a simple note because she had to put it behind her. Giving up the Joker, going back to Arkham, would mean giving up Ivy too. Unlike the Joker though, Harley - no, Harleen - thought that Ivy would support her decision to try being normal, for real this time. She'd tried to push her to that before, after all. Still, she left the Love you crossed out. Ivy knew. When she walked out of the greenhouse, it felt like she was really walking away from being Harlequinn. She could still remember the first time she'd met Ivy, out by the docks, begging for answers and direction. Now she was hanging up the costume - it was still in her closet at Ivy's - and honestly trying to go straight, to be better than all of that. Harley cast a warm smile over her shoulder as she walked away from the Greenhouse, her own little thank you to the woman. Alright, Sappy. You've got things to do. "Yea, yea. I know. Gotta seduce that Dean. I'll be working at Arkham by New Year's." That was a promise she intended to keep. |
