Jonah's terror is real and tangible now, having soared up into his chest and choked him until he is slamming his head back harder than ever and cursing and screaming and biting back hot tears. It isn't until his consciousness has returned to normal that he realizes that - for once - a traumatizing mental event had absolutely nothing to do with the evil clown. It is someone else, a young and daring thing who is unafraid of shadows and knows how to leap and bound and who has somehow invaded Jonah's mind and grasped him tight and given him a new experience.
He feels indignant on behalf of the memory's original owner and it takes him a while to shake off the sensation of wanting to hunt and hurt and lash out against the shadows that lurk in the corners of his bedroom. Before he can even question the nature of the delivered experience, his head is reeling again and he's living through another person's eyes.
