WARNINGS Character Death
There was no denying that whoever had attacked the garage had been after Hailey. Had she not gone to her yoga class, her sister would’ve been in the office or working on one of the cars. She could’ve died or been seriously injured, and what about the damage to the baby? Felicia had honestly hoped that whoever it was, they’d been after her or even after Pepper. Less than a handful of people knew who she was through the door and nearly all of them (save Hailey, Sean, and Amy) were from the Marvel door as well. They wouldn’t go after her, and they wouldn’t have given her up. Both women were sure of that. Pepper had insisted on going through to Stark Tower that morning, wanting to see for herself that everything was running smoothly. They were, of course, but she figured while she was there, she’d do some work. One thing led to another and before Felicia knew it, it was nearly 11pm and she was finally back in Las Vegas. It was frustrating how much Pepper took advantage of her and tonight she just didn’t have the patience for it. Her anger was more than obvious, bubbling under the surface as she stalked down the stairs, and there was Pepper, rolling her eyes. “Stop it. Just stop,” Felicia muttered tightly, all too pissed that the other woman was criticizing her. “I told you one hour and you took the whole day!” She pushed her way through the door and out to her car, glad that it was at least empty so no one would have to see her so frustrated. Felicia prided herself on being in control for the most part - Tony’s ridiculous antics aside - but after everything that had happened, this was just the last straw. Don’t be so snippy with me, Felicia. I gave you the time you needed with your family and there was more for me to do today than I expected, Pepper reasoned as Felicia got into her car, rolling her eyes. “You didn’t have to take the whole day! It’s bad enough I can never get rid of you, even for a few hours,” Felicia replied, annoyed at the situation. “I’ve done nothing but give, give, give and you just...you’re taking advantage. That’s what you’re doing and I’m tired of it.” Her key turned the ignition and she shifted the car into reverse, backing up as Pepper replied. You turned over the garage to Hailey to give me more time. You willingly drive here every morning so that I can work and you question it when you get days you’d already agreed to give me. Felicia put the car in drive and made her way out to the street, scowling. “I needed the time to keep an eye on Hailey and get the repairs for the garage under way. I had things to do and you knew that! Don’t pretend that you didn’t.” Normally, she wasn’t so angry about Pepper being a constant presence in her life but this wasn’t a normal circumstance. All you do is fret over them. Your brother had every intention of investigating the garage and you still keep your sister in the dark about what you know. You can’t control everything. The garage is indication enough of that. You got lucky and you’re pissed about it. Don’t take that out on me. Felicia growled angrily and sped up along the highway, not realizing she’d done so. “They’re my siblings you ridiculous woman. Of course I’m going to worry about them and honestly, it’s my responsibility to look after them. They’re my younger siblings. You do understand what that means right? So just stop and let me deal with this.” You do understand that if anything happens to you, it happens to me too, right? Why do you think I’m so careful? Getting involved in whatever it is your naive little sister got wrapped up in won’t end up well. You know that. I know you do. I’m not saying to just leave her out in the cold. I’m saying you should take Tony’s advice and involve the authorities. You have the right contacts to make the whole process go smoothly. Pepper was trying to be reasonable, but Felicia didn’t want to hear it. She was in so much trouble. She knew it, Pepper knew it. It was only a matter of time before it all blew up spectacularly in her face but it was still worth trying. “No, I won’t send her away. I told him that. I promised her I’d look after her and the baby. Sending her into hiding will only make her more of a risk. She was an unknown mistress. That’s what the information said. They don’t know who she is and I’d just be handing her over.” Her hands gripped so tightly to the steering wheel that her knuckles were white and tears started to form in her eyes. Felicia, you need to do what’s best for her. That means handing her over to the authorities. We’ll find you more contacts, a way to ensure that she’s safe. I’ll help if I can, and so would Tony. Silver would too, I’d bet. If he’s got enemies that would know how to kill someone the right way, he probably knows some people who could help. All of that should have been a comfort to Felicia but it only frustrated her further. She was too wound up, to irrational and emotional to think clearly. That should have been her first indication that driving wouldn’t end well, particularly at night and while arguing rather loudly with a voice in her head. It was no surprise then, that when she caught movement out of the corner of her eye, she swerved hard to try and avoid whatever it was. She’d overcompensated, forgotten the rail on the side of the road, and what followed was expected. Felicia saw it a moment before it happened. The car forced up on the left wheels, lopsided as it pushed forward along the rail despite her attempts to break. She turned the wheel again in the hopes to disengage, but it only served to send her car tumbling, at the mercy of the other drivers on the road. When all was said and done, Felicia lay lifeless in her seat, blood trickling from her forehead. Sirens could already be heard in the distance, ready to aid the two other drivers who were simply shaken. Her car was badly damaged and the medics would pronounce her dead on the scene thanks to the blow to her head. It took hardly any time at all for the damage to be straightened up and cleaned away, her body taken to the morgue and her relatives notified. |
