Sean had had a busy day at the studio. They were making final preparations for their show that was to be aired Monday evening on national television and was turning out to be quite a big hit. Live television always was more difficult for the av crowd, but it's part of why Sean loved the gig. So many things went on behind the scenes that the crowds at home never understood.
He'd made his way to the shared apartment with his siblings and frowned when he glanced at the clock, realizing Hailey wasn't home yet. It wasn't that abnormal, but he was a worried big brother, especially with her being pregnant. Felicia had seemed extremely concerned, though Sean guessed he still didn't know everything yet. Deciding to surprise his sister at her garage with a bit of supper, Sean packed away a ham and cheese sandwich with a store-purchased thing of Nestle chocolate milk. He'd seen her drinking it the other day and guessed his sister could use it after a busy day at work. He'd pulled up to the garage and what he saw shocked him to the core.
He froze as he opened his car door, the meal that he'd brought forgotten about as he stared at this hellish scene. His mind stopped working for a moment, then his feet started to move almost on their own. He was walking towards the still smouldering building that looked quite ready to crumble to pieces without realizing why he was even doing it. "Hailey!" Sean shouted frantically, his mind suddenly catching up with his body. He needed to...oh God, what if his sister had been in THAT? His feet pounded the ground, making his way quickly to the building. He was about to set foot into the ruins to search for his sister, when a voice in his head suddenly commanded him to stop. He'd almost forgotten that voice had even ever existed.
Stop. Let me look, the voice stated calmly. I can tell you if there are any human remains in that. Sean panicked for a brief moment, then remembered the facts about this second voice in his head. General, right. He'd be used to shit like this. He could feel the man trying to calm him down, but Sean dutifully ignored it. This was his sister! He had to find out if she was okay! Being a general does not mean that I am 'used to this', Roy's smooth voice filtered through. Being an alchemist who specializes in fire means that I can tell you if there are human remains in this just by walking around. Now go on, but move carefully.
He'd never been more grateful for the stranger in his head. Sean carefully stepped forward, looking around frantically as he waited for the words from Roy Mustang that told him what he needed to hear. The man was oddly silent as Sean glanced around, carefully dancing around the dying embers that were now present. He could hear the police sirens in the distance and knew he should probably get out of there soon, but Roy's words almost brought Sean to his knees with relief. There was no one in here, the man stated confidently, and Sean had no choice but to believe him. Furthermore, whoever did this either didn't care about their work or didn't know what they were doing, or both. This is sloppy. Sean did sink to his knees then, breathing in the thick air but not caring. Hailey was okay, but he didn't know where his sister was.
Moving from the fire that was slowly dying and fading into the blackness of the night, Sean walked on shaky legs to safe ground once more. Ask them what they saw, Roy's voice spoke up once more, and Sean looked around with a wild expression to let his gaze land on a few stragglers who were staring in surprise at the man who had been stumbling around the ruins of the fire. Trying to gather his wits about him, Sean pulled his mind out of a fog and fumbled over some basic questions. Roy had gone silent in his head, but Sean did successfully gather that they'd seen a young woman fleeing from the scene not that long ago.
Sean knew that his sister was safe, and that whomever had done this hadn't been an expert. Had it been random? Roy didn't seem to think so, judging by his tone. As he sat in his car, shaking still from what had happened, Sean sent a quick text message to his siblings, inquiring if they were safe and wanting to know if Hailey had made it home yet.
Just stopped by Hailey's garage. Someone set fire to it. Roy assured me Hailey wasn't in it, and that whoever did it was not an expert. On my way home now. Hailey better be there soon. i don't like this.
