Androgynous Beauties

The Marc by Marc Jacobs collection advertisements were released recently, and it appears that the same model (Cole Mohr) will be used for both the mens' and womens' clothing ads. Though they're not to my taste, I've included all the images from the campaign I could find on the internet.

Hiho everyone! I am heading off into the wild blue yonder for a few months and will have intermittent access, at best, to the internet. So I decided to add a new maintainer to the asylum - the quite-awesome-in-many-ways das_dingsi - to make sure things run smoothly for everyone. He has excellent taste and is very sweet and I am sure he will make a fantastic new mod.

Lately I've been reminded of my love for certain 80s / New Wave / goth subculture music and styles. And somehow, I always come back to the same iconic figures. Steve Strange is one of them. He's probably best known for his band Visage and their greatest hit "Fade to Grey".
His outfit was more about fashion than gender statements, but the clubs and events he ran were always welcoming towards genderqueers.

All images have been taken from http://www.geocities.com/theblitzkids/ -- although a tad disorganized, it is the best source (that I know of) for images and information concerning 80s subcultures. Lately, Araki Hirofumi has been one of my favorite actors to stare at pretty pictures of and envy. Part of the D-Boys acting troupe, He's currently acting in Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger, and is probably best known for his work in the Prince of Tennis musicals.

I remember reading about Claude Cahun, the French surrealist photographer, artist and writer, several years ago and being absolutely fascinated by her story and her photographs. Her self-portraits are surreal and beautiful. You can read more about her here and here.
