Who: Sam and Bucky
Where: The Capitol, Sam's Office
When: Early Afternoon
What: Bucky arrives for a meeting.
Rating: R for language.
Sam tapped his fingers against the arm of his chair nervously, glancing at the time display on his monitor and mentally calculating how much time was left before his client showed up. His eyes drifted around his office, and he made a mental note, for the umpteenth time to talk to someone about redecorating. The place was too clinical, too cold, and Sam was sure it wasn't doing anything to reassure his clients that he was welcoming their confidence. It looked more like an exam room than a counselor's office, in Sam's opinion. It was another thing to add to Sam's growing list of 'should have dones' with the Victors.
Checking the time again, he brought up Barnes' file with a tap of his finger, studying the grim profile picture, and the various notes that had been made. Sam scoffed under his breath. There were so many rumors flying around Bucky right now that Sam wasn't surprised that he'd started to get pressure about bringing Bucky in for an evaluation. Between the incident with Natasha and now the scandal at Clint's... Sam didn't even know what to call that horror show. The people up top were starting to get nervous about Bucky's mental state. Of course, that didn't mean they'd stop doing the stuff that kept messing up their Victor's mental health, either. Not in the Capitol. He closed the file, running his hands over his face, and taking a sip of his lukewarm coffee..
The problem was, Sam knew Bucky wasn't the type to beat a woman. While the required sessions Barnes attended with Sam were hardly productive, what with his one word answers and repeated use of the word "fine", Sam was pretty confident Bucky was relatively stable. At least for a Victor who'd survived what he had. The recent acquisition of the kitten was also a good sign. Bucky being confident enough to take care of another little living thing was progress, as far as Sam was concerned.
He didn't know if Bucky was sleeping with Steve and Natasha, and frankly, it wasn't anyone's damn business if he was or wasn't, but he was getting enough poking from his superiors that he'd finally emailed Bucky to make an appointment so Sam didn't have to assign him one. They wanted to make sure Barnes wasn't about to crack, and go on a rampage against his fellow Victors. There was already talk of drugging him. Sam had put his foot down, reminded them that he was the one in charge of Barnes' treatment (for now, anyways), if Barnes needed any. They would leave it to Sam to evaluate. It'd worked. For the moment.
It'd be nice if Barnes actually opened up about things today, but Sam wasn't expecting it. Today was mostly just going to be for show, checking in with Bucky, and probably being subjected to a shitton of kitten pictures. Or so Sam hoped. He eyed the overly large shopping bag sitting in the corner. That cat was too cute for its own good.
He started a little as the gentle tone on his terminal sounded and a blinking indicator told him Barnes had checked in at reception and was on his way up. Sam cleared the screen of the rest of the files he'd been looking into and sat back in his chair, waiting for Bucky Barnes to walk through his office door.
A rug. He definitely needed to at least get a rug...
