[ORDER]
Like the model citizens that we are, Sturgis and I have registered for and received our identification. Here's what we have found:
  • The IDs appear to be part of a network in the same way that the journals are, though more information and possible trial and error is needed on this.
  • There are anti-tampering spells on the IDs which will cause some side effects if you try and tamper with them, even just a spell to determine what they are. My attempt made my ears ring for a couple of hours.
  • As I did not find any traces of dark magic on the cards at all (which I am supremely confident in), I believe the deterrent spells to generally be "relatively" benign, perhaps similar to an attempt to get into the girls' dorms at Hogwarts or cross an age line for the TriWizard Tournament (hello, Fred and George).
  • There is definitely a tracking spell of some sort on them, though we've yet to determine how specific it is. Until we as a group have more information, if you have a Ministry registered address that is different to the place you actually reside in, I would recommend leaving your card at the former when you're not at work, just in case. Unnecessary advice is unnecessary.
  • The biggest difficulty thus far seems to be in breaking the anti-tamper enchantment, but in comparison to some wards that I've had to deal with in the past, I believe this to be eventually achievable.
  • TLDR, as my children say, but I think that the Ministry rush on these things is to our advantage. There is only so much they can do when they're having to process the majority of the magical population in a mere week.

What else have others found? Has anyone tried to duplicate these cards, or discovered something else about the tracking charms? We should also eventually look at perhaps how halfblood cards compare to pure, or if those of us who are more obvious Phoenix suspects have anything extra placed on their cards.

[Eddie]
I liked the book. The depiction of the patronus charm is accurate and detailed enough to be helpful.

[Fred]
Thank you.

ORDER.
hi so i checked in with a friend who's still at hogwarts and i found out some stuff.

- ginny neville and luna tried to break into snape's office to get the sword of gryffindor?
- he made them spend the night in the forbidden forest with hagrid. they're ok tho
- they're using blood quills again and being p liberal with detentions
- romilda's worried the carrows might kill someone and michael backed that up
- they really are teaching them dark arts
- and muggle studies is a joke now
ORDER DA.
they brought the da back too btw and i think we should help them
CAI & GWEN.
hey so romilda owled me yday and a lot of it was blacked out so here's what she sent:

[pic of romilda's letter]

and since today was a hogsmeade weekend i went to check on her and the gist of what's censored in the second paragraph is some rumours that aren't true. and the other stuff is the serious stuff. basically just that the carrows are being horrible and she's worried they might really hurt someone. i think she's more scared than she's letting on. i know she said not to tell you the worst parts but i thought you'd want to know
OLIVER & PERCY.
thanks for coming with me today

So this kind of happened? I 😍  her.

[Friends] (Please throw yourself in if you think your character would get along with her!)
I also got that stupid ID today. I feel sick at the idea of carrying this thing around, but you know. It's not like we have a choice.

DMLE MINUS YAXLEY
so i went to that ugly sweater party last night. first of all, who holds a party for ugly sweaters in a fancy ass place?? that makes no sense. a lot of the diagon/knockturn usuals were there, as well as the malfoys, lestranges, the cursebreaker dufort-podmore, that lowe kid, and zabini. apparently, zabini is dating the greasy looking lestrange so who knows how long it'll be before he turns up dead. that family is super loaded, aren't they? the malfoys and that bartender from the white wyvern were all throwing serious shade at each other. bartender also exchanged some words with zabini as well, and zabini could be heard asking about coffin sizes for someone fitting bartenders description.

all in all these rich people are pretty much all ate up, but they make for great entertainment. nothing really happened and it was all pretty tame. i won a free burial plot, but tbh i don't plan on dying anytime soon, and if i do i'm definitely being shipped back home, so it's up for grabs.

It's getting closer to the deadline!

Unfortunately, that means that it's getting closer to the mandatory implementation of Ministry policy which hugely prohibits every citizen's right to privacy. I cannot say yet what impact the IDs will truly have — but I can say that, despite what information has been distributed across the wizarding world, I think it's abundantly clear that this move is not being met with open arms. The ramifications of needing identification in order to shop or be allowed into public buildings are huge. The fact that people won't be allowed into such a focal and important location as Diagon without identification is huge.

Everyone has the right to free movement within the UK. The use of IDs in this way is horrid because it's purpose is prohibitive and its clearly set to be used as an excuse, a ways and means to track the witches and wizards of the UK. I'm shocked that anyone would be in favour of this policy. It's short-sighted. It places limitations on us for the purposes of alleged public safety, but I'm afraid I can't see how we're to believe this is going to help us from Death Eaters or violent attacks.

There are many instances where having identification is smart and necessary. There are many fields where I understand it, sites where you'd need it to visit. Identification is important but a policy like this is not important or necessary. Having identification shouldn't be mandatory to shop. It shouldn't be mandatory to enter a street. This policy is deliberately restricting and it deliberately undermines every single one of us. This policy, frankly, means that we are not given a choice. We must have one to leave our house and spend money or seek medical attention or visit the centre of government, activities which we should be certain of being able to do without this particular kind of scrutiny. Having to explicitly identify ourselves every step of the way is ridiculous. It's stifling.

Unfortunately for many of us, it's simply not feasible to forego having this ID.

However, I'm not pleased about it. I intend to make my disapproval known, here, and by attending the protest. Consider joining it.
