Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Lily Painter and Peter Plympton
What: Lily has an idea for Rush Week.
Where: The Omega house.
When: Thursday afternoon.
Rating: PG

Lily pulled a tiny rock out of her pocket and tossed it gently at Peter's window. Sure, it was four in the afternoon, and she could easily knock, but Lily felt like being a little contrary today. As much as she loved visiting the Omega guys, she had an idea she wanted to talk to Peter about. The boys would wait.

Speaking of Peter... Lily threw another pebble at his window. She knew she had the right one, and this definitely wasn't the first time she'd used the rock-against-the-window method of getting his attention, so he shouldn't be too surprised. Come on, Peter. Answer the window.

The girl sighed and tugged her baseball cap down on her head. She'd climb up there herself if she had to. Lily tossed her last pebble and waited. He had approximately ten seconds before she knocked on his window herself.

Peter heard some sort of sound against his window, but just dismissed it as some of the brothers making too much noise. He was sitting at his computer with his headphones on, listening to loud music, so pebbles against his window were not going to get his attention.

Oi! Fine. Lily scowled up at Peter's window. She rolled up her sleeves, angled herself below the ladder of the fire escape and jumped straight up to grab the bottom rung of the ladder. With clearly practiced movements, she swung onto the ladder before it even quite hit the ground, and in a few swift jumps and turns she was on the landing at Peter's window. Lily knocked quickly. "Come on, open up," she called in, stepping away from the window and slipping her hands into her back pockets.

Peter took off his headphones when he heard knocking - he assumed that the boys in the next room had knocked something over. When he got up from his computer, he saw Lily at the window. "What are you doing on the fire escape? You could have just come in the door!" he said, opening the window to let her in.

Lily gave him her standard crooked grin and a shrug. "I could have, but then I'd have to stop and chat with everybody else, and I wanted to talk to you," she said, removing her hands from her pockets to climb into his room. Inside, she helped herself to a seat on his bed. "How's it going?" she asked. "Am I interrupting any particularly important scholarly endeavors?"

"If facebook is a scholarly endeavor, then yes, you were interrupting a lot," he said, laughing. "Ehh, the guys just like when a girl is around, you could have just ignored them and come up."

"Yeah, you've raised quite a group of lonely gentlemen," Lily teased, her grin wicked. "Tensions must run high at night." She knew that wasn't quite the case, and it certainly wasn't why she so often got caught up talking to the Omega boys; rather, they were, in Lily's opinion, an awesome group of guys. She loved stopping by.

"Speaking of high tensions... You know Rush Week is next week," she began. "And during Rush Week it's really important to make a good impression on the poor, darling pledges. So what I was thinking was that we should throw a party. An Omega-Zeta party. One house hosts it, the other provides food and drinks, and together we show the hopeful chitlins just what they're missing."

"That sounds like a great idea! We can host the party here. Better that our house gets trashed than yours," he said, sitting back down in his computer chair.

Well, Lily certainly wouldn't argue with that. She could, however, provide pledges to clean up afterward. Initiation was such a joy; so much actually got done. "Awesome! We'll do the food... Wings, probably." Cheap and perfect for a casual help-yourself sort of atmosphere. "And drinks. How many kegs do you think we'll need?" For an open-invitation event like this, there was never any way of knowing.

"I have no idea. I'm not sure how many people will show up. Probably most of the freshman class will show up, but beyond that, I'm not sure. We usually go with four or five when we're not sure - we can always save the rest for another party," Peter said, scratching his head to do some math.

"That's true... But if we have that many left over, we're not sharing," she pointed out. Leftovers would go specifically to an in-house evening. Poker night, maybe. "Is Friday night okay? Or do you want to torture the freshies with a mid-week party so they can experience the joy of next-morning classes?" Lily? Evil? Naaah. Okay, maybe a little. Hey, it was a valuable lesson, and Lily would be happy to teach them.

"Why don't we do it the Saturday before Rush week? That way, it doesn't need to be an 'official' rush event, but it'll rope the kids in early," he suggested.

This was why she kept Peter around. Okay, there were a few reasons, but this was definitely one. The boy had the right idea sometimes. Lily smiled. "Actually, that could work. It's short notice, but, hey, I like to live dangerously. Eight o'clock Saturday night? Do we want to try for some kind of theme? Or just go simple and casual?"

"Well, our last party had a beach theme, so I think we're probably better off having a party without a theme," he said. "Unless you can think of a clever one."

Lily shrugged. "There are all kinds of themes we could do," she said. "Pirates, a Western theme, the classic toga party..." The possibilities were endless for delightfully corny themes that could be twisted into Greek parties. "But maybe we should save that for next time. Now I think about it, this really isn't enough notice for things like costumes." Lily really didn't want to hear the complaints she'd get from her girls if she suddenly announced that they had to have costumes ready for Saturday night.

"I think a Pirate party could be fun - it really isn't that hard to dress like a pirate, just put on a striped shirt and make an eyepatch from paper," he said. "I'd like a pirate party."

Then again... if Peter said he wanted pirates, Lily was pretty sure the girls would make accommodations. "Or we could do pirates," she said, chuckling a little. "I'll try to get some invitations or posters or something out tonight or first thing in the morning." Lily already had an idea, and she already had a costume in mind. "Saturday at eight, right? Final date and time?"

"Sounds good. I'll send out facebook invitations and post something on the blogs," he said. "I'll make the boys decorate the house."

"Perfect," she declared. Lily looked around. "I think that's all I've got for you today," she said. "You staying out of trouble?" Of course he wasn't; she just felt compelled to ask anyway.

"Of course I am! What kind of a student and fraternity president would I be if I got myself into trouble?" he asked, raising his eyebrow playfully.

Lily snorted. "A boring one," she reminded him, standing up. "But definitely not yourself." She tugged her baseball cap down on her head before folding her arms. "Alright, I'll get out of your hair now so you boys can get to work cleaning." Lily grinned. "You have fun with that," she teased, as though she wouldn't be by later to lend a hand or at least drop off some dinner for the boys.

"I'll see you later, then?" he said, leaning back into his chair. "This should be an epic party."

"Of course it will. We're throwing it," she said, as if that were the most obvious thing ever. "I'll see you later." Lily reached over to ruffle his hair before climbing back through the window and heading back to the Zeta house. She had work to do.
