Freaking out the boyfriend
I happened to mention to my boyfriend that my endocrinologist will probably want to run some tests on me before my next visit because on my last visit the tests I took showed a very small amount of protein in my urine. The endo said that hopefully it was just a fluke, but that he wants me to be tested again before my next visit (coming up in a couple of weeks.)
Boyfriend, well, didn't exactly freak out but he got very, very worried. He said, "You (me and my endo) better get that taken care of real quick, or you might end up on dialysis! Do they even do kidney transplants on diabetics, since they're at greater risk for kidney failure?"
I'm going, "Whoah, calm down, dear. Let's not jump straight from 'small amount of protein in urine test' to 'kidney transplant.' There are medications that can help slow the progression of kidney damage and maybe even prevent it from occurring. Let's wait and see what the doctor says."
It's nice to have someone who worries about me, but I can do without the overreaction!
I've had diabetes for almost 35 years, and I haven't had any kidney problems yet, so let's hope it stays that way.
