Author's note: In my happy little world, Groo didn't show up at the end of "Waiting in the Wings." Trust me, I wanted to keep going with this, but I was sure that would have taken me over the 500-word limit for btvsats_love...DARN IT.
Distribution: Archive sites, etc., of which I am a member. Anyone else, please ask. If you're willing to share the archive info with me, I will probably say yes. Thanks for your interest!
Cordelia stared, slack jawed, at Angel, waiting, as usual, for him to get to the point when he obviously thought it was going to offend someone
"....I would just want it to be...new--start at the beginning." He gave her a soft, shy smile, his eyes warm instead of their usual piercing heat.
Crap. She hadn't heard most of what he'd said, lost in her musings about his people skills. She shook her head, putting on her best smile, and covered with, "Lost me in the middle," hoping he would think she meant lost by his words, not her brain.
"Cordy, you and I--We've been working together for a long time."
That's an understatement! She puffed out a laugh and nodded. It seemed like forever.
"What I--What I mean is, you've become...a truly extraordinary woman."
WOW. She giggled, not knowing what to say to that. Compliments from Angel were--When did Angel give compliments? Like, never! WOW. He kept going, so she focused her attention on him again, not wanting to miss another word of this.
"I know we haven't always gotten along, but...I think that we--you know--we...grew closer together, and I think that we--"
You know, he was really, really good in that dressing room, and I--I think he's trying to say that he wants me, here....Oh, what the hell? "That we need to get even closer?" She grabbed his face and kissed him hard.
Angel flailed for maybe...two seconds, then pulled her flush against him.
Ohhhh, yeah. He wants me, all right. She dragged her mouth away from his, breathing hard, gazing at him from under half-closed eyelids. "Upstairs, Angel. Now."
He swallowed hard, nodding. "Yeah. Okay." He placed a gentle, guiding hand at the small of her back and led her to the stairs.
