Week Fifteen - Thursday

Who: Peri, Wolf and eventually Libby
When: Thursday Morning at 2 AM
Where: Wolves Headquarters in Wolf's Bedroom
What: Peri comes to say goodbye, and doesn't care about the consequences
Rating: Likely not PG will give a full rating later

It had been a couple of weeks since the war that had taken over Sundance had ended. Those weeks had been tense ones as there was nothing but questions left within these city limits. After having heard a good description of the Jackals leader known as Jax, Peri was fairly sure that he was in fact the person she had met out by the Winter Camp. She had not told anyone in her tribe, but she knew very well that she had said nothing that would compromise her beloved brethren. In fact it seemed as if they were going to be taken care of, though Peri had warned that things that looked too good were.

The River Runners were not a trusting tribe though, so they were already making alternate arrangements... just in case things didn't work out of course. She felt content in the fact that the Runners would be fine and she had left a letter at Jed's boat explaining her whereabouts. She didn't doubt that Jed wasn't going to like it, but she also knew that he wouldn't look for her because there was no point. Peri had one of the lightest house boats and it generally was quick on the water, so with a head start she would be out of reach by the time he got it in the morning.

The letter had told Jed what Peri had known was coming for quite some time, and that was that she needed a change of pace, and new faces. Life in Sundance had become something routine rather than exciting, and that had started to make her feel dead inside. Something that she likely was. She needed to feel like she was free again and that she needed to do things in order to survive. Something to make her heart race and her entire life seem worthwhile. As it had been a long time since Peri had feared death, the idea of going in over her head didn't scare her. In fact it excited her in a way that she had not felt in quite some time.

There was only one person that she needed to say goodbye to face to face, and she had no doubts that he was not going to like any of it. In fact she was prepared for quite a fight on several levels. After all they were not really friends in the first place, and even through that she didn't think he was going to be okay with her venturing out on her own in the end. It didn't matter though, because it had been along time since she really cared what he wanted and her mind was set on a new life.

So in the middle of the night after the meeting between the leaders of the tribes had occurred, and on the only night she knew that Libby would not be with Wolf in his bed, she docked her boat for the last time on the pier nearest to the Wolves Headquarters and strayed onto the docks in one of her usual ethereal outfits that made her look more like nymph than human. In an outfit that was so Peri but still retained Allison with it's white lace bodice and floating translucent cotton wisps of white floating out from it, she had come to bid the only love of Allison's life a firwell.

There was no doubt that she stood out even this late at night, but she knew her way around the compound well and quickly enough she found herself past the person who was suppose to be guarding the door. He had been sound asleep, so her lithe form had merely slid in through the front door rather than having to obtain entry through one of the windows that she had one previous occasions made sure she could open from either side.

Slipping down the darken hallways she closed her eyes and let her memories guide her up the stairs and around the corners until she was at the door she had so many memories of standing before or leaving from. Good and bad what was between Peri and Wolf, as well as what had been between Allison and Brent, was what it was never ending... at least in Peri's mind. He was everything to her, but she would never be with him and that was just where she had always stood since the virus had taken away everything from her including Allison and with it any ability to see Brent as anything but a past that was dead.

Catching her breath, she opened the door, fully expecting to see him jump up and scream at her to get out, though she wasn't going to obey him no mattered what he wanted. Not that she really ever had, but tonight she had her peace to make and her farewell to give and she was going to do it whether Wolf liked that or not. She was happily surprised to find him asleep in bed when her eyes finally caught sight of him. Walking over, she sat down beside him waiting a moment to wake him as she let the last part of Allison in her caress what was left of Brent in front her her with her eyes.

After the moment had gone, she leaned down and spoke in to his ear, "Time to get up now Brent..." Sitting up, she awaited his reaction, acknowledging that this might not be pretty at all and fully expecting a war, though she held hope that this might just be easy and quick and painless for the both of them. That was not a likely story though

Week Fourteen- Wednesday

Who: Peri and Gent
What: Catching up
When: Wednesday Morning
Where: Gen't Boat
Rating: TBD... Probably up there given the personalities of these two...

Gent was enjoying the early morning sun on the top deck of Le Couer. It was nice to just sit and relax with Odile in his lap, his tattered shorts hanging a litle loose on his recently slighted frame and the sun warm accross his bare chest. The past few weeks had been rough. He hadn't had much time to catch up with any of his aquaintances of the River Runners. Things had ben so tense that he just hadn't cared to talk to people much. But now that an awkward peace had been reached, he was ready to see some of his old friends. He had come back to land to see people hadn't he? He was tired of being trapped in his own head and he hadn't flirted with a pretty girl in ages. He needed to flirt.

So, when a pretty little blonde sparked his memory from the deck of a house boat a few over, Gent couldn't help but crack a smile. Oh, he remembered her. He could never forget such pretty baby blues. He stood, sliding a disgruntled Odile onto his shoulders as he shaded his eyes and called out.

"Well, I'll be! If it isn't little Miss Periwinkle! Still sweet to look at ma'am!" Gent let his smooth cajun accent float over the rows of boats towards that pretty little piece of woman.

OOC: Any idea for what the rating might be?

Week Fourteen -- Tuesday

Who: Peri & Jax
Where: The Winter Camp
When: Tuesday Morning
Why: Peri goes to mourn a friend, Jax goes to decide how much the Camp is worth

Walking back into the camp where she had spent more than a few winters since the virus was bittersweet. This was her and her tribe's winter home after all and though they were not the wealthiest tribe, they certainly were the tribe that enjoyed their time the most no matter where they were and how tough things got. There were many memories that could make her laugh until she cried, but now there was a lurking unseen memory haunting the Winter Camp and she knew she needed to make her peace with it.

When Gypsy had gone missing, Peri knew she was dead. It was cut and dry because if Gypsy had wanted to leave she would have taken Silver, and if she had been captured there would have been word... demands. She had been able to accept that Gypsy was dead, it had hurt, but what Peri had not taken into consideration was how Gypsy might have died. It had been the worst case scenario of how she could have; slowly, painfully, and alone. Nothing could change it, or make it right, but that hadn't helped Peri.

During the war many things had changed, least of all Shepard had left. It had been a sad departure, but one that likely had gone far better than it could have; it had been clean and simple with a quiet sadness, but nothing more. Since then Peri had been trying to find not only her own footing, but her tribes'. They had lost Moe, but thankfully a younger member had picked up the business and was keeping them in a good trading position. They had gained as new leader, who so far was doing well, but would be tested with the new Lions... or Jackals now technically having the Winter Camp. That hadn't stopped Peri from 'trespassing' this morning, but then again Peri was never worried about her own safety and now no one was around to worry for her.

Taking a deep breath she walked into the forest. Her heart was pounding out of her chest and her eyes were watering at the mere idea of where she was headed. She knew where the bear trap was, she always had as she had helped set it on many occasions.

Week Thirteen - Monday

Who: Peri and Moe
When: Late Monday Night
Where: Moe's boat
What: Peri needs to get smashed
Rating: PG-13 (language)

The last week had been the longest week in Peri's life since the virus had taken her parents, her life away from her. She had meet Shepard just over a week ago, he had changed the way she lived her life, something Peri hadn't been ready for. Rather fortunately for her, she had broken his fingers in trying to kick him out and instead had let him stay. Unfortunately around the same time Shepard came into her life, her best friend Gypsy left it. Peri, the true pessimist by nature, didn't think she was coming back, nor did she think that she was alive. Someone would have told them by now if Gypsy was merely hurt, and if Gypsy had been trying to leave she would have taken Silver with her.

With so much changing in her personal life and having lost the person who truly knew who she was beneath the mask, she just felt alone. Completely and utterly isolated. Which was why before night feel she knew she couldn't say nothing any longer. Peri wasn't totally oblivious to the fact that she was not what others would typically consider a good person. She didn't care, but that was why she didn't tell many what was in her heart... they just didn't understand her. Gypsy had, and now she was hoping Moe would, or at least that she would just listen and not judge her. They had been friends since the tribe at been formed, just never as close as she and Gypsy has been.

Sitting up quietly in bed, she looked down at the man next to her. He wasn't Brent, like Gypsy had expected in the end it would be. No Brent and Allison belonged in the past, he couldn't let her just be who she was and she couldn't bare to remember life before the virus. Instead next to her was Shepard, a man that hadn't been mad at her for being... well a bitch, and who didn't seem to judge her on what he had heard... she knew by know he would have heard at least some of her downfalls. In truth she was happy to not be alone any longer, and more truthfully that it was Shepard sharing her bed with her. She wasn't quite ready to admit that yet though.

She had waited until he had fallen asleep, and checked that he was before slipping out from underneath the covers. The spring air still had a chill to it and so she slipped over to grab her jacket. It wasn't that she had and fear about telling him that she was going out and telling him where to stick it if he had a problem with that, no she just wasn't ready to tell him that she had lost her best friend at a time she really needed him. Sliding out the door, she walked to the bow of her boat and quickly jumped onto the next, making her way to Moe's. They had all been tied together at night for the last couple weeks and tonight was was happy that was the case.

Week Twelve - Friday

Who: Shepherd, the RR that joined him, and Open to Twin Feathers
When: Week 12: Around 10 in the morning on Friday
Where: Just entering Twin Feather territory
What: Looking for Gypsy
Rating: TBD
Status: In Progress

Shepherd had gathered those going with him and they had floated down river till they reached Twin feather territory or specifically where the River crossed Cabin Creek road. From all he had heard it was the easiest way into the Twin Feather territory. Once he had packed up his new bag with a few things he thought he might need they had headed out. This excursion was good for him to learn the area better. He knew Sundance well due to his brother having lived here but things were different and that was before the virus. Bright blue eyes scanned the area taking in landmarks and being perspective of his surroundings. You learned early as a drifter that you had no friends which meant anyone would beat you over the head for something. He had heard the Twin Feathers were a peaceful sort but that wouldn't stop them from protecting what was theirs.

The weather out was nice. Shepherd had learned to appreciate weather long ago when he didn't need to be bundled up and wondering if he would loose a finger. Though the thought of fingers caused two of his own to twitch in the ties the kept them straight so they could properly heal from their broken state. Though they ached a good deal at times it was well worth the outcome.

His simple worn T-shirt fit to his lean torso rather well and his jeans, while belted, were a size too big but thankfully were long enough. Finding clothes that didn't make you look ridiculous in times like this were usually pretty hard not to mention clothes that would stand up to wear and tare. He pulled his glasses from the top of his nose and cleaned them up on the bottom hem of his shirt before depositing them back on his face and continued to walk on.

Week Twelve - Tuesday, Early Morning

Who: Peri and Shepard
When: Early Tuesday Morning ((Before the Meeting))
Where: Peri's boat
What: Peri decides to get rid of Shepard with interesting results
Rating: PG-13 (language)

Everything was changing; Peri was in the middle of it and trying to get back to what she knew. Since Saturday her world had been turned upside down. Gypsy was gone and Shepard was here in bed with her. She felt like nothing made sense anymore. Yes, he had saved her life, but she couldn't figure out for the life of her why she had let him stay so long. It was four days now, three more than anyone had managed in a row. And then there was Gypsy... her best friend... really her only true friend. The one that saw what she was and took her for it, the one that never judged her and only tried to help her. She was gone. Peri had spent the last day searching for her, truly to find something of her, something that would explain to Peri what had happened, but there was nothing.

She had lied in bed awake all night, trying to think of where the other might be and what might have happened and why there was a man just sleeping next to her. Everything was blurry and uncoordinated. By morning though she had decided that she needed to get rid of Shepard so that she could focus on Gypsy. It was as simple as that in her mind and there wasn't anything that she could think of to dissuade her.

She had gotten up early and had packed the few things she had into sacks, leaving out a pair of clothes considering as was tradition in Peri's bed, he was lacking in them at the moment. After she had everything ready she stood over the bed and with a nudge with her foot she said, "Okay Shepard, you have to get going. I have places to go and people to see... and you are slowing me down." It was a well rehearsed line.

[info]jed_wax

Week twelve - Tuesday mid morning

Who: Jed and all River Runners
When: Week Twelve
Where: Land surrounding Jed's boat
Why: Jed organises a search party and tries to quell panic.

There was no way Jed could lie to himself anymore.  At first he figured she'd just wandered off on her own for a few hours and would return, and when hours turned into a full day he figured maybe she needed a big time out, Gypsy was mad at him afterall for practically banishing her best friend.  But by the time Tuesday rolled around the panic in his body sank in fully and his nerves were on edge.  She was missing and he was partly responsible.

Although he never let people know it there was nobody Jed respected more than Gypsy, and lying to her about him and Silver had ebbed at his concious with each day that passed, there were whispers in the camp that there should be relief felt on Jed's part now she was no longer breathing down his throat.  Relief wasn't an emotion he could feel when his whole sytem was abosrbed with panic and dispair.  Gypsy had been his saviour, he'd been hers, they'd been friends and lovers for a brief time.  Now she was gone and he didn't know where.  It was like the twilight zone when he'd barrelled into her boat, everything perfectly in tact as if she'd simply stepped out for some air, no signs of a struggle to signal someone had taken her, no note to say she was leaving.  She simply walked out and vanished into thin air.  This wasn't a trick anymore, this was fucking weird.

Silver hadn't spoken to him since, he'd heard her sniffling in her sisters room as she asked for a moment to think by herself, and he'd hid the angry tears that brimmed and clouded his eyes.  She'd never done something like this before, though he had to try hard to reassure everyone that this wasn't as big a crisis as it actually was.  This was made harder by the fact that few people actually respected Jed as a leader and without Gypsy there to scold them he was swimming in a sea filled with what seemed like dozens of doubting faces.  For the first time in his life Jed had no plan, no thoughts, nothing coherent, and no guidance.  He was completely alone and missed his friend, he missed every part of her and wasn't going to give up until she was looking at him in the face and laughing at him for even bothering the tribe in the first place.

Jed had sent word out to the tribe that there was a metting to be held at his at eleven, outside his boat.  He daren't hold it outside Gypsies.  He stood on the dock facing the floor feeling it swirl and sway beneath him, making him feel queasy.  There was so much to do and so little time to do it in, every second was a second she could be in more danger, there was no way they could afford to waste time anymore.  It was time for Jed to stand in and be the man Gypsy always told him he could be.  He'd always doubted her.

"As you know Gypsy is gone," he started off slowly but confidently, throwing his voice so it flew over everyone's heads, "We can't afford to stay put any longer, there'll be a search party dispatched and I need volunteers," he frowned, "We need to find her,"

Week Eleven - Saturday

Who: Peri and Shepherd
What: Peri almost dies and then finds herself with a tenant
When: Saturday
Where: The Marketplace
Rating: R... for sexual content

It had been a very long week, she had risen everyday at 7am and had gone to sleep well past midnight. The mission of the week had almost been accomplished though and that was what really mattered. The wares she had produced all winter were almost gone and they had been replaced with food and a few other thing she an her tribe had needed. To be honest, Peri had actually sold faster than she had anticipated and for a better price. She always left those who wished to trade with her determine the price they wanted to pay and then she bartered until she thought it fair. This year the price they had given was high and she had rarely had to barter for a higher bid. It had been wonderful in fact. Apparently a lot of the dishes had been broken or had just become too brittle over the winter months.

Her evenings had been spent rejoicing with her tribe, who had also seemed to have the same fortune. It had been apparent to her than that the stores that the other tribes had made for the winter had been more plentiful than any had let on. It was likely why they had been able to receive help from the Wolves when their store had been diminished, and it was definitely why their own store of preserved food was now almost full. She figured she had one dya of the marketplace before she could rest. It wasn't as if Peri had to sell everything she had made, but when she set a goal for herself, even if she did better than she thought she would she always pushed through and finished it.

Walking out of her house onto the deck she disengaged her boat from the rest of the Runners. Generally they pooled together at night not only for their own convenience put for safety's sake as well. Together they were a tribe you did not mess with, even separately they were strong, but during sleep anyone was weak. Pushing down with her pole she pushed away from the fleet and then replaced the pole into its appointed slot. The kiln was used to warm her boat because even with it on the deck in made her house warm. Placing a few new logs in it, the small flames from the large embers left from the night began to lick at their new home.

Soon enough she had arrived at the marketplace and docked in her usual spot. It was a slow morning to start with but as mid day came the market filling and the noise level was immense. It didn't take Peri long to start trading leaning off the side of her boat with a twinkle in her eye always help and it never seemed to matter with whom she was trying to converse she had a way about her that seemed to reel them in.

There seemed to be a few new faces in the crowd that day and when one of them boarded her ship, she thought nothing of it. Peri was never one to keep anything of too much value to her out in the open and she always had a knife somewhere near. In all likeliness she had become too self assured. She had begun trading with him for some bowls she had; thick earthenware that was expensive because it was very durable. When she turned to grab a bowl, unlocking the earthenware section of her storage unit, she let her guard down and it that second all she felt was a sharp pain than nothing. The sound of him hitting her with a rock the he had been hiding was almost unheard over the noise of the crowd. As quickly as it had happened though Peri was falling off the side of her craft having been knocked unconscious. It didn't take long for the thief to grab most of the earthenware and run off into the crowd without most knowing what had happened, or really caring.

Week Eleven - Monday

Who: Peri and Windchaser
What: Peri's first visit to the trading post
Where: On the River outside the Trading Post
Rating: G right now, will increase if necessary

It had been a very long winter for Peri, but it hadn’t been one any more remarkable than any other she had gone through since the Ans Virus had taken everything away from her. Peri looked slight on a normal day when she was well fed, but after the winter where the tribe had lost a good portion of their food to the elements she was hardly more than skin and bones, and even her abnormally large chest seemed merely normal within her overly thin frame. The winter still plagued her farther than her frame showed though as a slight case of pneumonia had struck her during the winter months. Having known her own infectiousness, she had isolated herself from many and to most she was already done for. Anyone who knew Peri, however, knew she was far heartier than most among their ranks. Thus few were surprised when she came back into the fold of the tribe, slightly wheezy, but no worse for ware than any other. Working in front of her kiln had been her saviour, as it not only kept her warm, but had also provided her with what she would need to recover.

That was what had brought her to the trading post that first morning after the Rivers had finally released their crafts enough to make it freely around the River. Having worked in front of her kiln all winter and having rarely parted with anything meant that she had a stockpile or earthenware to sell and the first thing that she would be trading for was food. It was not only for herself, but also for all those in her tribe and the loss of their storage had made twigs of them all.

It had seemed like hours since she had left the Winter Camp, but the sun was barely past the 9th hour when she spotted the familiar dock awaiting her. As she placed her pole on the deck, she felt the muscles in her arms more than she thought she could ever remember having. Again this was not true, but after the long winter she was sure she was totally unfit, though not many would have been foolish enough to take on the wily girl. She may have been small, but she knew how to get herself out of trouble, a quality that had meant her survival before tribe life had brought more security to her life. Reaching out to the familiar T-Head on the dock, she tied her line efficiently to it and then stepped of the boat onto the dock. Her step showed nothing of having been on the water, as there was nothing to show. Instead it was one of ease and confident as she walked to where the dock met the land.

Looking around she found that not many were around, but she knew that come noon there would be more. It was never a quiet time when the River Runners came back to the Trading Post. She wasn’t sure how many would come today, but she had left ahead of most because she wanted the time to sort through her wares and place them out for display properly. Smiling and nodding at a face she knew although the name that matched the face escaped her, she turned on her heel and walked back to her small boat. Stepping back on deck she felt an enthusiasm build within her. It had been some time since she had interacted with any that were not Runners and she wondered quietly how many new faces there would be this year and how many old ones would be gone.

Week Two - Thrusday

Who: Peri and Jed
What:Peri stressing the importance of work ethic
Where: Jed's boat, then Peri's
When: Thursday Afternoon
Rating: R for sexual references if nothing worse... though it likely will be

There were few things that ever truly annoyed Peri; she was about as easy-going as they came when it came to others. She liked to let everyone do and say and think what they wanted to and rarely put restrictions on anyone, nor did she really care what they did with their time, but there was exceptions. One of those exceptions was with those who promised to do things for her that she needed done and then seemed to always have an excuse as to why they were not done. It would have bothered her if it had been anyone else's things, but when it concerned her own then she got annoyed. On such task was the moving of her kiln. In the summers it was far to hot and so the kiln sat out of the deck, far from her living quarters. In the fall, however, the weather turned bitter and it was needed indoors to keep her warm on the few nights she spent alone in her bed. The kiln unfortunately was far to heavy for Peri and so every year she made a deal with someone who wanted glassware to move it. There was no doubt that moving the kiln was a pain in the arse, but once the deal had been made what did she care.

This year it had been Jed who had made the deal. He had broken a few glasses... or had a few broken for him by his many women; Peri guessed the later. The deal had been that she would give him a full new set and then he would move her kiln. It wasn't exactly a heavily laid deal, instead it was quite simple and two weeks ago Peri had provided the glassware. Even since Jed had had excuse after excuse as to why he hadn't actually done it. First he had hurt his back, then he had to redo his roof and his latest excuse had been that he'd had to look after some of the children. Peri doubted all of his excuses, but the last one had been preposterous. No one in their right mind would ask Jed of all people to look after the children, not that he couldn't... there just happened to be various choices that were more suited to the task. After that excuse Peri had declared war, unbeknown to Jed. Jed was know for being notoriously lately, and other rarely counted on work being done on any sort of time scale, while unless it benefited him.

Peri's morning had been a rather lazy one. With the darkness of the last few days, it had encouraged Peri to be quite unmotivated. It was also likely the reason why Peri had not already been on Jed's case as to why the kiln was not in her room. However this morning she had woken up in the late morning shivering and that had been the end of postponing the task of putting a fire under Jed's arse. Having made some oatmeal for herself, she ate it slowly as she sorted through he drawers trying to find what she was going to wear. She had a good idea already, but the actually pieces were not picked out yet. As she sorted through, she tossed a few pieces out here and there. Her plan was quite devious, but nothing to Peri. However it was exactly what needed to be in order to get Jed a bit more eager to finish the task.

Walking back out onto the deck of her boat, she washed the bowl she had been eating out of and put it away. As she stepped into the living quarters of her domain, she slipped the ngihtgown off her form and started to dress herself. A matching aquamarine and lace underwear and bra set were the first things she slipped on, followed by a pair of knee high white soccer socks. Grabbing her long wool jacket, she slipped it on with a smile and did it up the entire way, knowing very well her entire routine. Reaching back she bundled her long dirty blonde hair and pulled it gently into a high pony tail. She didn't look in the mirror as she walked out of the room, there was no need. She knew exactly how she looked in everything she owned. Stepping down into one of her smaller canoes, she untied it from her houseboat and slowly started to paddle unriver. The tide was strong, but it was no where near hard to control for a River Runner. They dealt with everything the river through at them and over the past few years they had begun to excel at being more than capable of handling most of it's conditions.

It didn't take Peri long to locate Jed's craft, but then again she knew everyone's without question. As she docked with his houseboat, she noted the both of his canoes were still docked, thus it was unlikely Jed wasn't at home. Stepping onto his deck, her socked feet made no sound. It was a quality she had used on more than one occasion to sneak up on others, as Peri almost never wore footwear, but it wasn't one she was going to use today. She could have easily just walking in on Jed, but it was always questionable what she would find and thus how he would react and for PEri's plan he had to be in at least a tolerable mood. Most might have thought that the number one thing Peri needed was for him to not have another woman in his cabin, but Peri knew that with Jed's appetite it wouldn't really matter either way. Stepping up to his door, she leaned against the frame and knocked lightly, almost sweetly.

Week One//Tuesday

Who: Gypsy and Peri
Where: The Riverbank//Near Peri's boat
When: Tuesday, at sunset
Why: Gypsy spied Peri walking off with the Wolf at the Halloween party and thinks it is time to begin opperation 'keep Peri and Wolf seperated'

Gypsy knew the two of them had left together at the party and somehow, was not surprised. Just as long as things the little Mountain Lion spy got inside the Wolves Den like was planned. A definate insurance into safety this coming winter. She had gotten little sleep from the party and the after effects of it. But sleep was a comfort she did not find the time to afford. Not now, not when there was so much to do, so much to prepare. She still did not believe they had enough food and did not want to spend another winter coming out to try and ice fish for the better of her tribe. Because no matter how many blankets or jackets she wore, she was still cold, and the slime on the fish eventually froze, it was just... Not a fun time.

But now her attention was focused on Peri who she knew had to come back to boat eventually. Wolf had left hours before looking like the lost puppy he always did after spending a night with Peri. But at least there was no yelling, throwing of objects, and scaring of small children that happened to be playing in the river at god aweful times.

The River Runner leader sat with her legs pulled up to her chest, fingers idley playing with her long hair, looking as if she had all the time in the world. Her dog, Hermes, was jumping around yapping at her to throw a stick but she just stared at him. "I throw the stick and you do not bring it back, you just run after and get another stick, you stupid canine." It whined at her and she just rolled her eyes, giving in, and throwing the stick. The flea-beast darted after it, down the riverbank barking the whole way, as if he had died and gone to dog heaven. Because for a moment that stick was alive and he was about to kill it. Then he was going to bring his master another stick for her to bring to life and throw so he could kill that one.

"Stupid beast.." She muttered with a smile of affection. Though she heard the crunching of leaves and the sign someone else was approaching. It was light, a female body, and she guessed it was the blonde River Runner that had all the boys falling over their tongues for. Typical men. Still she stood to her feet to greet the other with one of her smiles that said so much and so little at the same time. "I can not figure out if dear Wolf falls for the same sin of Lust everytime or if just maybe you inspire more in his noble heart."

Wolf spent the morning riding along the river in the Mustang’s territory. He often took day-long rides when something was on his mind. This morning that something was the death of a young drifter at the hands of the Mountain Lions. The entire incident had sent such shockwaves through the city that he’d considered cancelling the party. However, after much thought he’d decided to have it anyway. It would be the perfect opportunity for him to make a statement to the Mountain Lions, and the entire community. Of course the Mountain Lions were not invited but he was not stupid enough to believe that at least one of them, or someone working for them, would not be there. That was precisely the reason he was having the party on such neutral grounds to begin with.

He understood the point the Mountain Lions were trying to make by killing the boy. However, he did not agree with the Mountain Lions’ actions. A tribe could be cohesive as humanly possible, but there would still be that underlying drive that brought all the members together in the first place. The selfish drive to stay alive, to do whatever it takes to keep yourself alive and yourself only. Wolf liked to think that he was above that base, animalistic and selfish instinct. Yet, like so many things Wolf tried not to be, even he could not escape that inalienable human-animal instinct.
