Week 15 -- Friday
WHO: Ratchet, Jax, NPC mechanic, NPC guards
WHAT: A little punishment
WHERE: The power plant (and perhaps somewhere else, depending on Jax's method of punishment)
WHEN: Evening
RATING: ...depends on the extent of the violence.
STATUS: Incomplete // Closed

Anyone that knew Ratchet knew that she didn't tolerate very specific things in people. Cowardice, stupidity, timidity...and those were just a few. And yet with the Mountain Lions and even with the Jackals, it seemed like she was swimming in these traits! So that was why she'd walk around the plant with a big wrench slung over her shoulder and a scowl on her face. Really, was it so hard for some of her mechanics and electricians to A) grow a backbone and B) get a few brain cells to rub together? It seemed like half of them never knew what they were doing and if they weren't whining to someone else for help, they were whining to her. That was another thing she hated. Whining. It honestly made her want to club most of them over the head until they'd shut up for good. But she couldn't do that...not unless they could be replaced.

Now, slightly earlier, one spineless, stupid whiner had come to her. It seemed he had a bit of a problem with something that didn't relate to the plant. And it involved Jax. That automatically peaked her interest, but she didn't show it openly. Instead she told him to get on with the damn explanation so he could get back to work. So he talked on and on, describing how he'd escorted Sumi to the river like he'd been asked. And then he'd fallen asleep, leaving the girl to nearly drown in the river. Jax had shown up shortly after that. Cowardly mechanic boy had taken the horse and gone back to the lodge as fast as he could. "Wow...and here I thought idiocy couldn't reach a new level," she said to him. He practically begged her to not tell Jax and to keep him hidden so that he wouldn't get his ass kicked. Or worse. Now, Ratchet wasn't the sort of girl who'd keep an idiot from his punishment for being a negligent idiot. He had to know that...and yet he believed her when she said that she'd keep him safe. She still smacked him with the wrench and told him to get back to work, though, with that typical attitude that had so many afraid of her.

Once he'd left, she called for someone to run a message to Jax back at the lodge. The message was simple. "Come to the plant ASAP." She figured that he'd be wanting to know which scumbag had almost let his precious little Asian princess drown in the Belle Fourche. She watched the runner go off with the message with a smirk on her lips. It wouldn't be long now.

She passed her supervising duties to one of the other higher-up mechanics and actually waited outside for Jax and his guards to show up. This was going to be very fun, she thought. What was going to happen to the little coward? There would be blood, that was for sure.

Since yesterday afternoon Jax had spent most of his time with Sumi in her room. He'd wanted to make sure that she was indeed all right and something about what had happened made him weary of leaving her side. He was sure that what he had started to feel since yesterday's incident was something that most people called "caring" or even "love". And to be honest, he wasn't sure how he felt about it but the feeling could not be helped. Somewhere along the line he'd gotten himself attached to the Asian princess and now he was stuck.

The time that he had spent away from Sumi had been entirely dedicated to discovering the whereabouts of the foolish mechanic who'd been so careless and then fled the scene of his irresponsability. Jax had been questioning one of the guards about the mechanic when a messenger approached him and delivered an urgent message from Ratchet at the power plant. He took the guard he'd been talking to and one other guard as well and walked the short distance from the lodge to the plant.

"Ratchet," he said as he walked up to the plant entrance "I hope this is good becuase I'm rather busy at the moment." If she didn't have information leading to the mechanic then he would not be happy that she'd interrupted his search, and Jax being unhappy was scarier that Jax's infamous indifference.

And boy had she seen Jax trying to figure out where the little worm of a mechanic was. Ratchet did tend to spend most of her time at the plant, but every now and again she would go back to the Lodge. There were people being questioned about it left and right. And to think the idiot was right under Jax's nose. Pity. She, being loyal to whoever held all of the cards, wanted to do something of service for her leader. And what better way than to hand over the mechanic that had almost let his precious Sumi die? It wasn't as if the scrawny guy was doing her much good in the plant anyway. He wasn't that great as compared to others and, quite honestly, his presence wouldn't be missed. It wasn't that hard to make one person do the work of two, after all. Being down one worker wasn't going to make the plant shut down.

She heard her name and instantly looked up, pushing her bangs out of her eyes. One of her hands settled in the pocket of her jeans while the other kept hold of the wrench resting on her shoulder. "I wouldn't dare call you down here for something that wasn't good, so to speak." She couldn't help but smile the slightest bit. "I know you're busy and that's why I thought that this tidbit of information would be helpful to you." For a moment she was quiet, going back over in her head to remember where she'd sent the spineless whiner to go work. He was working on fixing one of the smaller generators. A task she'd made him go about alone so it'd be easier to pluck him up and have someone else do the work.

"You're looking for the mechanic who ran from the scene at the river yesterday, correct?" she asked. "Because if you are, I'm rather sure I know where you can find him."

There were a lot of things that Jax could have been focused on but they'd all taken the back burner to him finding the negligent idiot who'd almost let Sumi die. He stood in front of Ratchet, listening with his arms crossed and not the trace of a smile on his face.

When Ratchet explained that she knew where he could be found Jax's interest obviously perked. "That's exactly who I'm looking for." Someone had told Jax the young man's name but Jax preffered a slew of obscenities to anything else when reffereing to him. "Where is he?" With how simple and direct Jax was being it was obvious that he was in a sort of tunnel vision about finding this guy. Those who'd been with him for a long time would have quickly realized that such a change in his attitude was not a good sign for anyone on his shit list.

Well didn't someone look angry? There wasn't even a trace of a smile, or any real other expression, on his face. And she was quite glad that she wasn't the one that he was after. Because from the looks of things, some maiming was going to happen. Poor unlucky guy...although on the other hand, she was hoping that she'd get to watch. It wasn't like she was a stranger to people getting hurt. Or hurting people, for that matter.

She wasn't going to stand in Jax's way now and risk her own neck. And why would she, when she didn't care about this mechanic guy at all? It was best not to waste time now that this shift in attitude had come about. Not unless she wanted to get the bad side of things too. "He's repairing generator B. I can take you to him." Without another word she lead him inside the plant, following the route she'd more than memorized by now until they got to the room housing generator B. Lo and behold, the lone mechanic was there, tinkering with something or other on the generator. And, of course, he looked just as spineless and pathetic as he had before.

"Hey," she said bluntly, "I've got someone here to see you." He looked up from his tools, blanching completely when he saw Jax. Oh yes, this was going to be fun.

Jax rolled his eyes when she said that the boy was already back at work on one of the generators. What, had the idiot just ran away only to come straight back to work? Jax couldn't even begin to believe the lack of brain power that this fool had shown thus far.

Jax followed Ratchet into and through the plant with his two guards trailing behind him. When they entered the room towards the back of the plant he recognised the crouched worker immediately. The look of fear on the mechanics face as he looked up to see Jax was incredibly satisfying. Without Jax even saying anything the two guards moved forward and after a bit of a scuffle managed to detain the kid.

"You've just made one mistake after another my friend, and now it's time for you to pay for them all." He looked to Ratchet, "Thank you for turning him over to me. You did the right thing."

Jax crossed his arms over his chest for a moment, thinking. The mechanic was trembling with a mix of fear and anger and tried to speak in his defence but Jax spoke over him. "Oh, it's much too late for talking now. Ratchet, would you come with us please? I'd like you to see what happens to scum like him."

Jax turned to exit the plant, the guards dragging the man along with them. He lead the little entourage right to the barn. Anyone who'd been outside of the lodge or in the area would have seen and heard what was going on, and Jax liked it that way. It all served as a reminder to not get in his way.

When they reached the barn he had the man bound at his ankles and wrists and then tied behind the horse that Jax was going to ride. Three other horses were saddled for Ratchet and the other two guards. "I've been thinking long and hard about the punishment that you deserve and I think I've come up with something that will suit you perfectly."

Jax kneed the mechanic in the stomach so that he fell to his knees and then without missing a beat Jax climbed onto his horse and kicked it into motion. Before the mechanic could recover enough to stand again he was instantly pulled over onto his stomach and dragged screaming from the bard and through the yard behind Jax's cantering horse. Anyone who knew their directions would know that Jax was leading the way towards the river.

Technically speaking, the boy had run away to come straight back to work because he hadn't thought that Ratchet was going to hand him over. Obviously, he was an idiot for trusting her word. And he was an idiot if he thought she'd take the heat for keeping him hidden when just handing him over would be so much simpler. So, it was more like 2 parts lack of brain power and 1 part foolishly trusting someone who didn't care about him anyway. But, details, details. No reason to get into the details.

She watched wordlessly as the two guards grabbed the guy up from his work. The look on his face was incredibly amusing, she had to say. When Jax thanked her for turning him over, she gave a nod. And then she was looking back at Spineless McGee who was giving a glare that she didn't even find scary at all. "You bitch!" he yelled, "You said you weren't going to tell him!" She laughed a gave a shrug. "Huh, looks like a lied. Deal with it."

It wasn't as if she was going to say no when Jax asked that she go with them. Because really, it was probably more of something that needed to be done rather than something she could say no to just because it had been phrased as a question. "Sure," was her simple answer to the question. And with that she followed after them as they left the plant and headed to the barn. When the mechanic was tied behind Jax's horse, she was starting to get how severe his punishment was going to be. Still, that didn't mean she didn't want to watch. Hell, she'd watched a whole lot of people die right in the streets of Baton Rouge, and back then she'd only been a pickpocketing kid. It didn't bother her then and it wasn't going to bother her now.

By the time she'd gotten on her horse, Jax had kneed the guy in the stomach and was starting off in the direction of the river. She followed after him and the two guards, wondering just how many people were seeing a fellow tribe member being dragged behind a horse. And then she wondered how many of them, like her, didn't really care that he was going to be punished.

Not that being dragged behind Jax's horse was comfortable under any circumstances, but Jax did try to stay clear of rocks by riding through some of the tall grasses. After all, he had much more planned for the guy and didn't want to waste him too soon. The man's screaming and cursing was annoying, but at least it let Jax know the guy was still alive and kicking.

It was a long ride to the point on the river that he was going to, and he was taking a risk in possibly being seen by unfavorable eyes. Yet, neither Reina nor Lawliss were there to stop him and that was unfortunate for Jax's victim most of all. The two guards that were with him would never question him, especially when he was in such a mood. Then there was Ratchet, and from what Jax could tell she was on his side at least enough so that she'd keep her mouth shut.

It had been almost thirty minutes by the time they'd reached the river. There was an old dock just down river from the Winter Camp where the water was exceedingly deep. He hopped from his horse before it had even come to a complete stop and walked back to the struggling mechanic. "You fucking bastard!" the guy yelled as Jax walked over to him. The man had somehow managed to get on his back and so his face hadn't been too mangled in the ride over.

"Hm, is that the best you can do? I've been called a lot worse. And, if you think what I've just done to you was bad you should have seen some of the shit that did when I was overseas. So, shut up." He kicked the guy in the jaw hard enough so that it wouldn't break but that it would hurt like hell. The mechanic let out a whimpery scream and tried to spit on Jax but Jax had already walked away to untie the rope from the saddle horn.

Jax knelt next to the man and reached behind him to pull his own switch blade from his pocket. "This knife, was given to me by an old friend. That friend tried to kill me once. He was the only person who's ever gotten away from me." Jax flipped the spring and the blade popped out the top of the knife. Jax motioned for one of the guards to come over and put a rope in their captor's mouth.

"Do you know what they say about sharp knives? They say the best way t know that you have a good sharp knife is if it doesn't hurt when it cuts you, you don't even feel it. Do you think that's true? Maybe you can tell me if this one needs sharpening." Jax reached for the mechanic's hemline and yanked the man's shirt upward to expose his chest.

For the first time since he'd approached Ratchet an hour ago, he grinned. He pressed the tip of the knife into the man's side and slowly ran the blade along the curve of the mechanic's rib cage. "Did you feel that? Yes? It must need sharpening then." A thin curtain of blood rushed from the line and down the man's side. Jax raised the knife to look at the blood stained blade. With the guards holding the mechanic down, Jax took the rope gag from the man's mouth and with his free hand he forced the guy's mouth open. "A great teacher of mine said that when there was truth and conviction in your blood that you could taste it." Jax wiped the blade of his knife off on the man's lips and tongue. "Does that taste like truth and conviction to you?" He backed away before the guy could spit anything back on him. "I didn't think so. Cowardice and weakness taste awful, I know."

Jax then wiped his knife on the grass and stood. "Ratchet, there are some cinder blocks over near the dock and some more rope. Could you bring one of the blocks and the rope over here?"

It really was a bad idea for this guy to be mouthing off at Jax while their "noble leader" was probably planning to skin his hide. Or something even worse than that, perhaps. Ratchet looked on silently, but whenever Whiny and Spineless looked over in her direction, she couldn't help but smirk. This was going to be bloody and violent, but it was most certainly going to be good. And to think that she had a front row seat. Interesting. That kick to the jaw really looked like it hurt. And she hadn't even heard the bones break.

And then the switchblade came out and the guy's shirt came up. That was definitely a formula for some cutting. And she was right. That blade ran down that mechanic's side rather slowly, leaving a bloody line behind it. Ouch. She was really glad that that wasn't her right then. Because the guy then was forced to taste his own blood. And that was just even worse. She had to agree with Jax, however. That blood probably tasted like a hell of a lot of cowardice and weakness. It wasn't like this guy was capable of anything other than that.

When she was asked to get a cinderblock and some rope, she got down off her horse. "You got it." She went over to the dock, picking up a cinder block and some of the rope and bringing them back over for Jax to take. Something in her mind told her that she knew where this was going. And boy did that just suck for the idiot in this situation...

It was apparent that the mechanic was wisening up to Jax's ultimate plan for him. The man's anger had turned into fear as Jax replaced the rope gag between his teeth. The mechanic was trying to talk through the rope gag and his efforts only increased pathetically when Ratchet returned with the block and rope.

Jax had been standing with his arms crossed over his chest, looking down at his victim in a contemplative sort of way. He motioned for Ratchet to put down the things she'd retrieved.
"Come over here Ratchet, I want you to do something for me."

Jax knelt next to the man again, who by that time had tears streaming from his wide eyes. "See, I can't take the chance of letting this fool somehow survive what I have planned for him and then ruining my reputation with the other tribes."

Jax held his switchblade up to Ratchet, extending the handle to her with his own hand on the blade. "Stab him here and here." Jax pressed the pointer finger of his free hand to a particular spot on the man's thigh. "There's a major artery there. So if he doesn't drown we can feel safe that he will at least bleed to death." At Jax's words the mechanic violently shook his head and struggled against the ropes, his eyes pleading with Ratchet. Jax would have been more than happy to do the deed himself but he took the opportunity to see see just how far Ratchet would act against her fellows.

It wasn't hard to put two and two together and figure out how the situation was going to end. She could even see the fear in the mechanic's eyes as she came back with the rope and the cinder block. Still, there was no change in her emotions even as she heard him trying to talk through the gag in his mouth. Probably pleading to be spared or something of that sort. It was really pathetic. He should have thought about the consequences before he'd done something so stupid as almost letting the Jackal "princess" drown because he wanted to sleep. Honestly? It was his lack of a brain that had gotten him into this mess. And now that he'd dug his grave, he was most definitely going to lie down in it.

She put the things down as she was told and came over when Jax asked her. It wasn't difficult for her to ignore the victim's crying. He'd been virtually worthless to her alive, so what difference did it make if he died? She didn't say anything in response to Jax's comment, nor did she say anything at first when he handed her his switchblade. For a moment, her eyes were focused on the weapon as she listened to the directions. Then she glanced down to see the spots he'd pointed to and the clarification for them. Ratchet wasn't at all affected by the mechanic's silent pleas. Instead she just took the handle of the switchblade, holding it firmly in her hand.

"See..." she began, looking down at other man, "now I'm starting to think that you shouldn't have called me a bitch. Maybe I would have been a little bit more forgiving...then again, I might not have." She knelt next to the mechanic then, a bit of a smirk on her lips. "Either way, I can't just go against orders, now can I?" And with that she raised the blade in her hand, stabbing him in the spots she'd been told to. His pain read through his actions and the muffled sounds he made around the gag. She even twisted the blade a bit in the second stab wound, just for fun.

Pulling the blade out of his skin, she wiped it clean on the grass at their feet before handing it back to Jax.

Jax watched Ratchet very closely as she listened to him and then took the knife from his hand. He stepped back as she knelt to enact his orders. The man was shaking violently and rocking his head from side to side. Tears were streaming down his face. Jax's eyebrow cocked in pleasant surprise as Ratchet spoke so coldly to the man and was able to stab him with such ease. The twist she gave the knife made him grin.

Jax took the switchblade from her, his heartbeat a little faster than it was before. The actual kill was so close at hand and that familiar rush of adrenaline was like a sweet drug to him. He held the knife in his hand for a moment, his thumb rubbing the wood of the handle. There was more he wanted to do to this idiot, but he didn't want the guy to bleed out before the man had a chance to at least experience drowning for himself.

Jax finally closed the knife and put it in his boot. "Now, I think it's only fitting that you have a taste of the river..." He grabbed the cinder block and rope and with the help of his guards he pulled the man's bound wrists and ankles behind his back. "Ratchet, grab the block if you can." His guards and him held the rest of the guys body as they carried him somewhat awkwardly down to the river, and out to the end of the dock. "The river is deep here and to my knowledge no one regularly fishes here."

Jax took a deep, satisfied breath as a wild looking smile spread across his mouth. "All right, one..two.. three." On three the two guards, Jax and Ratchet let the man go and land in the river with a muffled scream and a loud splash. Jax grinned and clapped his hands, "It's been way too long..." He turned to Ratchet and squeezed her shoulder with enthusiasm, "I won't forget anything you've done for me. You're truly no longer a Lion in my eyes." He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pressed her to his side for a brief moment.

The rope, the cinder block, the location...it all added up rather precisely. This man was going to drown. Or bleed to death. Whichever killed him first. Ratchet thought the punishment was fitting, considering what she knew of the situation. And she was more than glad to be taking part in the punishment. For one thing, it earned her brownie points with Jax. And secondly...well, it gave her an opportunity to do something fun that didn't involve tightening bolts and rewiring electrical panels. She was smirking down at the soon to be deceased mechanic, awaiting her next instruction from her leader. When she was told to grab the block, she did, with very little difficulty. Following after Jax and his guards, she got an eyeful of the river rushing by with quite a quick current. It looked pretty deep. Perfect place for a drowning, of course.

And then came the count. One. Two. Three. The last three seconds that the sniveling little mechanic had to say goodbye to life. Ratchet let go of the block, watching the man's body hit the water with a splash. Pretty soon it was dragged down so that you couldn't even see. It made her smirk again. She'd been missing out on some fun stuff being cooped up in the plant all the time.

Jax's arm around her shoulder caught her off guard, though. At first she could only think, He's touching me. Why is he touching me? But it seemed to be a sideways sort of hug. Well that was certainly...new. And completely unexpected. Still, she tried not to show that she was weirded out, instead just looking up at him with a bit of a smile on her lips. So she wasn't a Mountain Lion in his eyes anymore? Certainly a good thing, considering that she wasn't loyal to those snobby brats anymore. Or rather, those dead snobby brats.

And again with the hugging...was it just her, or did Jax get giddy when he got violent? It was mildly creepy, but she didn't say anything about it. "Glad that I could help."

It was true that in situations Jax found wildly entertaining he often became awkwardly or frighteningly giddy. Yet, thankfully he didn't notice the tense smile Ratchet had given to his over-enthused expressions of comradeship. Jax stepped from Ratchet's side and took a deep breath. Making a kill was one of the most satisfying things for him. It was especially a cathartic experience for him, when in the rare instance, he actually had some kind of conviction that he could use to mentally justify his actions.

One less idiot left in the world. He could only imagine the wonderful ripple this would send through the tribe from those lucky enough to have witnessed the mechanic being dragged away to his fate. He had been surprised by the brutatlity that Ratchet had so easily given into him, but it made him very happy to know that he had such a volatile Lioness on his side.
