Week Fifteen -- Monday
Who: Jax and Danni
Where: The Lodge
When: Late afternoon
Why: Jax likes to mess with his play things mwauha

Jax couldn't care less if Danni starved herself to death, but he wanted to keep her around a little longer. He made up a plate of flat bread and some vegetables to take to her. For what he'd heard, she hadn't been eating lately. He was somewhat certain that there were things about the Lion territory that she could tell him; things that he would certainly find out on his own - it would just take longer.

Aside from her lack of appetite, he'd been surprised at how well she'd taken to being under house arrest. She hadn't attempted an escape, there hadn't even been a scuffle with the guards after they'd let her have her freedom in the house. He'd perhaps been cruel to murder her dearest friends right before her eyes, but that was just the way the world worked in Jax's mind. Kill or be killed.

With the plate in one hand he knocked on her bedroom door, but he didn't wait for her to say he could enter. He turned the knob and stepped right in. "Danni, I brought this is for you."

Danni had cleaned her room the night before, simplifying her room just in case someone finally decided to come check on her. She had managed to keep her room private thus far, but she had a feeling things would change soon. Her heart was still healing from what she had experienced, but emotionally she was becoming stronger each day. Destroying the plot maps and general instructions of the land and machinery was a good idea, perhaps an even better idea than she allowed herself to take credit for. Now the secrets that rested with the leaders would die with the leaders.

She hadn't been eating, simply because she had no desire to and because she didn't care if she died now. There was no need for her anymore. She had no greater purpose in life. The only semi-positive thing that had happened since the worst day of her life was talking to Lawliss. Despite him being on of them, she had enjoyed his company. Not enough to speak with him again, but enough to allow herself to breathe for a moment and know that for now she was still alive. Upon talking to him, she had realized the strength she had, but playing the sad female card was good. She had ALWAYS been viewed as weak, a leader by default because her three best friends were such good leaders. It was a role she had to play convincingly, and play it she did. She was the mom, not an actual leader in many people's eyes. For the first time in her life, this role didn't bother her. Now she played it with secret pride. For some reason, this role had kept her alive. Sure, she could know some things, but no one could ever guess just how much she knew.

But right now, she was sitting back and reading a book. She had been doing this a lot lately, to get her mind out of the world she was in currently. This one was a Stephen King horror story. Just as she was in the midst of an incredibly terrifying scene, she jumped when her door opened. She scolded herself for forgetting to lock the door. Perhaps not eating was finally getting to her. But she paid it no mind. "Thanks..." she replied, her eyes returning to the book and not moving from her place on the bed. Her eyes were already glossy with fear and shaking from the world of Stephen King, so fear wasn't hard to pretend at this moment. She resisted the cold and biting remarks she wanted to make at him, resisted leaping from the bed and tearing his throat out with her bare hands, and simply sat there purposely tensing her body from him as if she actually feared he would kill her next.

This role was actually becoming a game to her. It was a sick way to live her life, turning corners expecting death. There was nothing for her to live for, and death would be a welcome surprise. Helpless and depressed was a role she played well, in fact she'd been cast in many such roles in musicals before, this was just another one only there was no song and dance.

Jax shut the door behind him, and quietly locked it.

He made him self comfortable on the bed beside her, stretching his legs out and crossing his ankles while he leaned back against the headboard. He took one of the carrots from the plate and munched on it himself. He craned his neck around to see what she was reading. "Stephen King. I'm surprised, I would have thought you'd had enough horror in your real life."

Sometimes he just couldn't help but be what most "decent" people would deem as inappropriate, it was just too much fun.

"You're welcome by the way, for the food; you really should have some of this." He held the plate out to her with a brilliantly faked smile.

The fact that he locked the door behind him unnerved her a little bit and for this reason she crossed her legs in front of her as she was leaning back on the headboard next to him. Danni's stomach turned further as he sat next to her on the bed, but she said nothing. Instead, she kept her composure and did a wonderful job of pretending not to be affected.

"I guess I just can't get enough of it." she replied with a bit of cynicism coupled with a convincingly joking tone. If he wanted to play games with her, she was ready for them, but she wasn't about to let him see the true colors of her just yet. Her ability to control herself was astounding.

She looked up at the plate briefly and then gave herself a mental nudge to look up at Jax. "I will have some in a little while. Haven't been feeling well." It wasn't a complete lie. All of the crying she had done had made her dehydrated and nauseous and eating was not the first thing on her mind.

Locking the door, and violating her space were all tiny parts of the grander theme that was Jax merely having fun with his prisoner. He reveled in doing little things that unnerved her. The best part of it all was that despite the few weeks they'd lived in the same house everything he did could still be unpredictable.

He withdrew the plate and sat it on his lap so that he could pluck another carrot from the meager rations for himself to eat.

"What is that saying? 'Misery loves company', or something like that? I'm not sure that applies in your case exactly... maybe something more like the term 'glutton for punishment' would be approriate." He made a thoughtful noise and leaned farther down on the bed.

"Not feeling well lately? I can't imagine why not." He sat the plate of food on the nightstand and reached over to pluck the book from her hands. He thumbed through a few of the pages before tossing it to the foot of the bed. "You know Danni, this whole experience is only as difficult as you make it."

Danni continued to keep her cool, even after he made himself comfortable. It was very unsettling to have this monster where she slept, but she had no control over the situation. In this moment, Jax had full control. At least thats what she wanted him to think. She was observant enough, though, to know that he was simply doing this to push her buttons. She didn't really foresee him raping her and pillaging her room as his kind were often said to do.

She let out a soft laugh, surprising herself. "A glutton for punishment, huh? For what? Merely existing?" She laughed again. It was an uncomfortable laugh, but somehow not forced in the slightest.

She closed her hands in her lap as the book disappeared. "And what would you suggest to make this easier?"

The corner of Jax's mouth twitched into a grin that he couldn't keep hidden behind his pearly smile. He took his gaze from hers for a moment and chuckled darkly as he ran the ruffle on one of her pillow cases between his fingers. "Hm. Punishment for punishment's sake. I can't be the only masochist in this house, and judging from the violent tribe that was once the Mountian Lions, I don't think it'd be much of a stretch- to say that deep down you and your people were just like us."

He paused in thought, his gaze meditating on the bedspread before he pushed himself up off the bed in a sudden but graceful movement. He went to a corner of the room and started to slow make his way around, studying what she had on her shelves: books, trinkets, photographs... "Easier? Well, for starters, you could forget them." He said with a smooth and casual tone. He picked up a photograph of Danni and her friends. It had obviously been taken before the virus. He studied their faces, his back remaining to Danni. They looked like different people than the ones he'd killed.

Danni simply looked at him. She could not deny that the Mountain Lions hadn't had their share of what they deemed to be fun. But she had done her best to prevent that most of the time. Once in a while, the anger they had slipped through her fingers and she found out after the fact. She had always been the voice of reason. She kept her tribe from making some very terrible mistakes. "There are masochists in every tribe." she said evenly. "I am not one of them." She knew that this was true. As much as she wanted revenge on Jax, she would never do it. Not out of fear, but out of belief that it was wrong. To become a killer in order to avenge the death of her loved ones. It was pointless and in the end did no good except continue a pointless hate-filled cycle.

"I could forget them." she agreed, her voice still even. Inside she was burning with sadness, but she had learned a long time ago how to cover that up. "But that is highly unlikely. Nor do I want that to be the case." Her heart was pounding. She didn't have to see the picture he was looking at to know what one it was. She let herself smile for a moment, remembering, but quickly wiped the smile away and replaced it with the even expression.
