Week Fifteen -- Wednesday
Who: Jax and invited leaders/associates (Wolf, Grey, Jed, Sensei, Hawk and Kestral)
Where: Waffle House on Highway 14 at the intersection of Wolf and TF territory
When: Sunset
Why: Because deception is fun!

It had been difficult to decide on a location for the meeting. Jax wanted something that was at once neutral for everyone, but at the same time, compromising on his part. He wanted to show the other tribes that he was not afraid to be around them with no weapons. It was a demonstration in sincerity, even though in truth there was not an ounce of sincerity about the whole thing. In the end he chose the Waffle House on the highway because it was in a kind of no-man's land, but also sandwiched right between Wolf and Twin Feather turf.

In his letter he'd specified that each leader only bring one companion and that everyone came without weapons. The first specification he'd honored by choosing to only bring Lawliss along with him. Lawliss was always good at keeping Jax in check and he was the best person to have on your side should the need for close hand to hand combat arise. However, when it came to the second specification Jax broke his own rules. He always had his switch blade with him no matter what and so even as he sat on the bar of the Waffle House awaiting the other leaders, it was tucked safely inside his boot.

Thankfully enough of the lightbulbs still worked in the restaurant for them to see by. It was only a matter of time before the first leader would arrive. Jax wasn't nervous, he was trained extensively for this sort of thing. "Lawliss, my friend, are you ready?"

“You ask me that every time, and you always know that I’m ready, s’why you brought me.” Lawliss pointed out drily, sarcastic mirth hanging in his voice. “Question is are you? Knife in your boot, I’m beginning to wonder if you think I’m enough of a weapon.” In his heart of hearts, the tiny part of Lawliss’ previous identity that had survived, disapproved of Jax breaking his own rules. The rest of him however, saw the logic in it, as he didn’t doubt most of the others would too. Lawliss never carried weapons. He was confident in his own abilities and a knife wouldn’t help if they were that seriously outnumbered, or someone got hold of a gun.
“You think they’ll listen to the rules?” Lawliss asked, his voice as soft and unconcerned as it ever was, asking the question as if they were about to start a game of baseball.

Lawliss glanced up into the light. “How do you always choose the best places to take over, look down on this place and think, ‘Hey, we’ll take the one that supplies the electricity’. He grinned, he wasn’t a psychopath by any means, but a massive part of who he was meant he could see the funny side of any situation. “If the hotdog machine still works, we’re either stealing it or I’m staying here.” His tone was light and easy, and outwardly he seemed completely at ease. While not nervous, he was, as always while working, very aware.

“Think they’ve fallen for the ‘spirit of co-operation’?” Lawliss asked, even though to him it was a moot point, no one moved to leadership status and survived by being a trusting idiot

Jax shook his head, "Of course I think you're enough of a weapon. You know I always carry this knife." Jax respected Lawliss, but there was no one that he respected enough that ever made him feel the need to explain himself. So he left his knife at that.

Jax straightened himself up and folded his hands in his lap. In truth, Jax didn't care if the other tribe leaders showed up toting machine guns. Of course it would be much more advantagous to him if they did not, but at this point he only wanted them to show up. He felt that it was crucial for him to present himself in a decent light right in front of their eyes in order for his future plans to work. He needed time to recoup that force that he had before New Haven was destroyed and it was time that he was seeking to buy by playing the nice guy. "If they do then that's great, and if they don't- we'll deal with it."

Jax laughed dryly, "Mmm, I just have a sense for those kind of things." Jax made a face at Lawliss' comment about a hot dog machine. "You mean the things that roll the dogs until they're cooked through? That's all well and good but then you have to think about actually making a hot dog. You know I'm not squeemish, but that prospect sounds disgusting."

Jax leaned forward a little to get a better look at the front door of the waffle house. "I hope they have fallen into the spirit enough that they at least show up."

With everyone asking questions and demanding answers Jed hoped that today he'd be able to tell his tribe something they didn't already know. Whether it be what they wanted to hear or not, at least he'd have something else to say other than 'I don't know yet'. He'd consulted Gent about the meeting today, figuring that if anyone was good as a second the big burly cajun was going to do the trick. Even if the guy didn't intimidate at least this Jax guy would see that not all of his tribe members were rake imitating, bandana wearing hippies, some of them had muscle and knew what a hard days work looked like...though the part about work was still questionable when it came to Gent. Jed liked to belive the guy did something useful around the river and boats, and Gent let him go on believing it.

He'd seen the diner before, he'd never ventured in, from the outside (through the windows) you could tell it was empty. One of the first things to be looted and it was too open to risk sleeping in for too long. It was generally left alone, forgotten on the highway, a stamp of what used to be and what was no more. Walking towards it was creepy. Nothing could be heard way out here, sure it was central but it was out of the way and so noise didn't travel. It was a long hike, and with Jed being none to fond of horses the two men had had no choice but to walk it. He could feel a burn in the back of his calves.

He looked to Gent briefly, "Ready?" his knife tucked between his sock and boot. His gun strapped under his shirt with tape, sure it wasn't an open sign of faith to be packing but when the shit went down Jed wasn't prepared to be hauling a body back to camp. Pushing the door open Jed half expected a small bell to ring over, alerting everyone to their prescence but it didn't. It swung open, though you could hear the wheeze of protesting hinges, and revealed only two other men. Jax was there, and he was joined by a man that mirrored his own form, stocked up top and narrow waisted. All the mucles in his arms and torso, perfect for dishing out beatings. He swallowed, already sensing the elephant in the room and walking up to them he offered a small all mouth no eyes smile "Evening,"

Havin' always been a curious child and cat-like enough to get his answers, Gent had jumped on the chance to accompany Jed to this "Meeting of the Leaders". Of course, he'd be the solid, quietly threatening friend in the background. he wouldn't say a word unless someone spoke to him directly. His job was to offer his opinion when Jed needed it and look imposing enough to beat in a face if it was necessary which, let's face it, he was. Living on the Mississippi during his early years and wandering the Belle Fourche in those most recent, Gent had been in and out of enough scrapes to have earned each and every well-toned muscle and scar on his body. Add his charisma into the mix and Gent was pretty damn capable of holding his own in any situation. Besides, Gent didn't really had a job with the Runners. With his large collection of shiny baubles and odd talents, he had planty to trade but no designated purpose in the tribe. He was just there in case someone needed something stolen, really... or in case Jed needed a buddy.

The walk was a long one, most of which Gent spent with his hands shoved deep in his pockets. he was itching to know who in Hell had been the cause of so much discord in Sundance. So many people were hurting and so many people wanted answers. Gent had dressed up for the occasion, his beanie pulled low over his brow and the tight sleeves of his black tee rolled up to reveal the muscles and tattoos that Gent was so proud of. This guy Jax had said no weapons. But studded rings weren't really weapons, now were they? And he didn't have to know about the hand gun in the waistband of his jeans either... or the titanium rod tucked into his favorite pair of Timberlands. He was ready if anything sketchy broke out, even if his calves were gonna be sore from this damn walk...

Gent caught Jed's look as they neared the old Waffle House and couldn't help but grin, "Uh'course I'm ready, Jed. When am I not ready fer a liddle bit'o drama? Especially in a place like that." He gestured at the diner. "Man, that righ' there belongs in'a horrah movie..." Shrugging and adjusting the numerous pieces of platinum, silver and diamond on his knuckles, Gent let Jed step in first and walked calmly in behind him. His face was set in a rather stony stare and his hands were tucked into his pockets again. He didn't like the look of the men that were already waiting for them. They were going to play the charming card, for sure... but Gent was good at playing the charming card himself... and he'd been played that same card himself to recognize it. he'd have to keep a sharp eye on both of these newcomers.

((OOC: Wolf, Grey, Sensei, Blaze, then Hawk and whoever is going to act as his second post your entrances only and then Jax will make a speech post and anyone who wants to respond to it can go from there! :) ))

"Looks like we have a couple of takers." Jax mumbled darkly to Lawliss as he cleared his throat and straightened his posture.

Jax smiled in a friendly way when Jed walked through the door. "Evening Jed. Glad to see you were able to make it." Jax stood slowly, but not unnaturally from his seat on the bar. "Wish I could offer to order you a drink, but well..." Jax motioned towards the empty kitchen with a sympathetic smile.

Jax nodded politely to the man that Jed had brought with him. "Let's take out seats at the table we've set up here." Earlier Jax and Lawliss had pushed several tables together and lined them with chairs. Jax took a seat at the head of the table and waited for the others to join him.

Hawk crossed his arms over his chest and glanced at Bear walking beside him. The man probably had no idea just how invaluable his friendship was to Hawk. With Kestral ill, the Feathers lacked their sensible half, the truly necessary half for this meeting. A year ago, Hawk could have handled this meeting all on his own, if need be, but the business with the new baby on the way had shook his world to the foundations. The stories he heard about Jax and Libby did not soothe his nerves much either. Nova was a weakness, and if the stories were true, Jax was the type of man to take full advantage of it. So he had brought Bear along, his sanity touchstone and the only person he knew of qualified to handle delicate situations such as these.

Entering the waffle-house, they were greeted with the sight of Jax, or who he assumed to be Jax sitting at the head of the meeting table, his second, Jed, and Gent. "Hello," he finally said, opening his hand in a slight wave. "I'm Hawk and this is Bear." His eyes briefly scanned the room and the seating arrangement. He did not want to seem too untrusting, but he also knew that his only defense if something goes wrong here was a close exit. He had honored the request of bringing no weapons, though since Hawk had never been the violent type, he would not have know what to do with a weapon even if he had brought one along. He gestured to Bear to take a seat first, trusting in his diplomacy skills to pick the most beneficial spot.

Bear was quiet on the trip to the waffle house. He had never liked waffles much. And he didn't much like the idea of meeting some strange dictator in a place where they used to serve the things. Of course, he didn't much like the idea of meeting such a suspicious character period. But Hawk was so stressed about the baby and Nova that Bear wasn't sure he could make a sensible judgement if it was called for. Bear was frazzled to, in all honesty. All of his friends, Ruby, Tink... there was a lot at stake if this didn't go well. But he would do what he could to take some of the weight off Hawk's shoulders.

Bear was the strong silent type. He didn's say a word as he walked into the waffle house behind his friend, only took in the faces of the men that were already there. The cocky-looking one at the head of the table must be this Jax fellow. The big guy to his right would be his second. He recognized Jed and Gent, two Runner's that he'd met before. Both of them looked calm, but ready to rumble if the need arose. Bear was just as prepared. He was easily the biggest man there. And while hawk was too much of a peace-lover to have brought a weapon, Bear had a roughly-hewn, rock spearhead tied around his neck- a necklace in the fashion of many of his ancestors. It was hidden beneath the worn and torn fabric of his white t-shirt. In his ripped bluejeans and moccasins, he would look like more of a hippie than Hawk did. But he dared the men to underestimate him. He walked forward, pulling himself to his full height as he surveyed the room, choosing to take a seat across the table from Jax's second. With Jax on his right and his second right in front of him, he was damn sure keeping his enemies close to him. Hopefully having a huge Native American less than a foot away from him would shake this Jax guy up a bit. And if things got crazy, he could have his fist around his throat in less than two seconds.
