Week Fourteen : Tuesday
Who: Charlie and Sumi
What: Hanging around the kitchen - it's foodtime
When: A little before lunch
Where: The kitchen at the Lodge
Rating: PG-13 (for foul language and mentions of violence)
Status: In Progress

Things had returned to normal for the most part, for Charlie at least. He might have been working under new management, but as long as he kept a low profile, he figured he was safe. He had not been all that close to the previous leaders in the first place. They had gone to high school together and came from wealthy families, but was all they had in common.

He whistled a jaunty tune as he whipped up some fried catfish for lunch that day. The war had been fortunate in the sense that there were less mouths to feed, which meant less work for Charlie. He loved cooking, but hated having to clean up after. At least chores were made easier with the electricity working again.

But he was lying to himself. He had missed at least some of the original tribe members, Slick especially. He had had a crush on her since high school, and she was the one to call him Mr. Delicious. Yes, he had mourned her death. At least he had the Pussy Posse to keep him occupied. It seemed he was seeing them more and more, mostly to avoid Junk. He just could not bare to be around her just yet. While he still had his kitchen, his comfortable bed, and a lighter workload, Junk had lost her only son. It probably would not have been so bad for Charlie if the kid had not died right there in his arms. God, there had been so much blood. Now, he was not the squeamish type; he gutted fish and skinned animals. He had killed and brutally injured quite a few people since the virus struck. But Tootles was just a little boy, and Charlie had actually become attached to him after all his visits to Junk's place. The little tyke had always been eager to see him, never knowing which of his favorite treats Charlie would bring along.

Charlie could not always pretend his life was all butterflies and rainbows, but at least for now, while consumed in his work, he could shove those things to the back of his mind.

Considering that she'd been traveling through the woods with the Jackals, things in the lodge were a complete 180. As close to normal as she'd been since the fiasco in New Haven. It actually reminded her of home, even. Namely the ruthlessness of their leader and the violence that had broken out when it came to overthrowing the Mountain Lions. Perhaps witnessing mass execution was an acquired taste? But she'd actually felt at home because of it. And she still did, because of Jax. All the others didn't seem to like her very much. Mainly because she played the role of "princess". No need to lift a finger for any type of work while all of the busy little worker bees buzzed around her in the hive. It was nice, but it did get a bit dull at times. Not that she ever mentioned that to Jax. After all, he gave her anything and everything that she wanted or needed. To suggest that she was unhappy with anything at all would be like going back on the kindness he'd showed her thus far.

Today her boredom had her wandering throughout the lodge, trying not to get in anyone's way as she offered them polite greetings and gentle smiles. Jax was nowhere to be seen. Not that she really should have been so foolish as to expect him to be there. He was their leader, so he had to be busy doing one thing or another. Sumi found herself longing to be in his presence, but it didn't read across her face. On the inside, though, she couldn't deny that want. Even if he didn't view her as more than a trinket of some sort, she still liked being kept by his side.

Eventually, Sumi's wandering brought her to the kitchen. Curiosity and boredom mingled in her mind, giving her the incentive to walk in and see what Charlie was doing. She heard him whistling some tune or another as he cooked, though she couldn't tell what he was cooking. "Hello, Charlie," she said in that characteristically gentle voice of hers. An innocent enough greeting.

Charlie's whistling stopped abruptly as he looked up from his frying pan. He nodded and replied, "Your highness," half in jest and half serious. He knew her name, but he was also very aware of her role in the tribe. With his relations with the new members still a bit unsteady and unsure, he thought it best to keep in the girl's good graces. "Do you like catfish, or is there something else I can make for you?" he offered, flipping another fried fish onto the growing pile on the platter.
