Week Thirteen - Wednesday
Who: Grey & Yeates
Where: The Farm
When: Wednesday Afternoon
Why: Cleaning up and trying to keep his mind off things he shouldn't think about

Libby had come back to the tribe more than a few days ago and she had come with an unlikely partner in Saint. Saint was someone that Grey had never liked the look of and now that he was being hailed a hero in their tribe, Grey couldn't quite look him in the eye and thank him. Luckily Wolf had been more than obliging on that count and so Grey had not had to. That combined with the information they had received on this Jax character had left Grey reeling once again. This time, however, Grey had decided to ignore it all. He had decided that there was nothing he could do and so what was the point of brewing over it.

Some might have said it was Grey turning over a new leaf, but the truth was he was just tired. The war had been a living hell especially considering that it had started when there was so much emotional turmoil between he and Wolf. Oddly enough the two were now closer than they really ever had been. It honestly was the only good thing that had come out of the war in Grey's opinion. There had been so many lost, and for what? The Mountain Lions were now no more, but it hadn't even been their doing and now there was someone new that they would have to deal with. And Grey didn't have high hopes that this guy wasn't as bad and Saint and Libby were making him out to be.

Looking over the fields Grey sighed and shook his head. He didn't want to think about it and he was determined not to. What he was determined to do was to start cleaning up what the war had left, which was mountains of debris all over the farm and the city. Looking around it looked like an unsurmountable task, but it had to be done. They had kept most of the fields clean of debris throughout the war, hell they had even managed to get in their crops. Mostly because they knew if they didn't than this war would have been for nothing at all. However the Pastures and the roads were another story. Makeshift barricades littered them, and with each barricade there was blood sweat and tears, which was in truth what made them so hard to take down.

So many good people had been lost in this war and Grey was still trying to figure out why. In truth all Grey wanted to do was sit back and say fuck it to everything political in nature. He would be more than happy to live with his makeshift and ever expanding and contracting family and just run the farm. That wasn't exactly reality though, at least it wasn't at this junction. No right now he had to be strong and clean up everything to show that they were going to get past this and that it was worth something in the end. Too bad he couldn't convince himself.

Yeates was thankful for alot of things in his life, although the virus has taken away alot from him and his brother they had eachother through the end of it and that was all he thought he could ask for. He didn't think he'd pray so hard again for anyone to be alright, as he did when English had gone to fight with the rest. He didn't want to hold her back, to protect her like some fragile girl, he knew she could take care of herself but seeing her load a gun made his heart ache everytime at the thought that perhaps this time she wouldn't be coming back.

Of course she had and so even though they'd lost alot Yeates was more thankful than ever because once again him and his family had survived death. What did make him sad however was the permenant pout on his brothers face, the pout was then accompanied by the frown and the heartbroken look at the farm and the mess that had accumulated. Makeshift barricades littered the road leading all the way to the city, barbed wire surrounded the back fence before the forest, crates and fallen trees littered the yard and where four horses once grazed, now only two remained.

Wondering through the house Yeates spotted Grey lurking around about to tidy up and with a deep breath he cleared his throat, "Hey man you alright?"

Before Yeates came out Grey had started tossing things into three piles; the burn pile, the needs to go back where it belongs pile, and the we can use this late pile. He figured if she could get everything sorted in that way then he could hitch up on of the horses and get everything back where it belonged. It was going to take some time, but Grey figured he could have everything somewhere within the next couple of days. Whether it would stay there or not would be something he would have to decide late, but for right now all her wanted to do was to be able to look out a window and now see crap all over the yard.

As soon a he had finished separating one of the barricades out he started to light a fire under his burn pile. It was still a rather small pile, but he figured if he got it going now while the wind was with him than he could just keep adding to it. Plus it did help that this barricade had been located directly where they did most of their burning anyhow... thus why he had started there.

When he heard Yeates, Grey grinned and looked back, "Nice to see you out of bed at a decent hour, why do you go hitch up the horses so we can get some of this shit off of the lawn?" He wasn't really asking as much as he was demanding, but that's was always the one thing Grey did like about being the leader of the rag-tag bunch that made up the farm.

Instead of commenting on his brothers statment he flipped him the bird and then scratched his head absently, "I see you're not even going to breathe before you tidy up," sighing heavily he trudged over towards the horses, "Why couldn't I play with the fire," he complained like a child.

Going in and out of the small barn Yeates carried a saddle and hitched onto one of the horses who neighed in protest, huffed a few times then stood compliant, "I know," he ruffled the horses mane, "I don't much wanna clear up either, I'd rather be back in bed with the lady," turning back around to start picking things up Yeates watched as the fire under the 'to be burnt' pile began to lick up the sides of the dissasembled barricades. To see them catch fire seemed to bathe the house in closure, it was now really over, the clean up had begun. But the expression on his brothers face told him that despite the clearing up, something about this was far from over.

"What's with the sour face? This doesn't give you closure?"

Grey laugh when he saw his brother give him the bird, and said, "Nope because I can't stand to see this place like this, and neither should you." Just a little dig nothing to be fought over, but just enough to remind his brother that he didn't take kindly to being told where to go, even if his brother was still going to do what he asked anyway.

When Yeates returned with horse and cart, the fire grey had started was just starting to take hold and he couldn't help but stop and watch it for a moment. It was somewhat cleansing to see the remains of a war being burned till they were no more. It was Yeates voice that brought him out of his entranced stare.

"Closure on what? Yes the Lions are gone, but you don't really think that the real person who got rid of them won't try to finish what they started eventually." Grey sighed heavily as he started pulling more onto the burn pile. "I might be paranoid, but I just have a feeling that this isn't over. I'd like to pretend it is though... at least for the little ones."

Yeates felt his smile fade slightly with Greys words, like he loved seeing the place looking a war ground, like he didn't mourn the deaths of his friends just like his brother. Like he didn't care. Prickling up slightly Yeates had to fight to put the careless smile on his face and brought the cart over.

"I don't think there's anything like paranoia anymore, hunches and suspicions are normally right around here. People worrying about conspiracies with the government they should have worried about the conspiracies that would exist after the world ended. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, at least people are dying before our faces." Yeates abadoned the cart and started to aid his brother in throwing things onto the fire, "Well no offence bro but the not caring for the kids thing isn't working, you forget how insightful children are," he stopped a second and looked towards the house, "I'm just grateful that so far this new tribe haven't bothered us, so they killed the Lions, they probably just annoyed them until they could take it no longer," he tried to jest.

Grey looked at Yeates, "Yeah and the Lions came into our territory to borrow a cup of sugar?" The sarcasm was dripping from his lips, but this time he couldn't help it. He didn't trust anyone that had just manages to overtake a powerful tribe that had almost just destroyed their own.

Shaking his head, he put the last piece from the pile onto the fire and start to load the cart with misplaced items. Hopefully they could hand off the cart and get someone else to put everything away.

Yeates frowned, "Don't snap at me Grey," he clenched his fist, finding himself counting to ten in his head. Looked like his brother wasn't the only testy one around here, he'd been dealing with English's shit all week, she'd deserately wanted to get out of bed, claiming she could walk just fine, of course he'd had other ideas and when English got a bee in her bonnet the whole room shook. As it had done last night.

"So you're worried that these people are gonna rush in and take everything away again? That their gonna assert some sort of leadership over us? Tell me to go to hell, I mean it's not like we can loose anymore," Turning around and walking towards the horses he looked over his sholder, "What's Wolf got to say about this?"

Grey shook his head, he couldn't help it. Nothing was looking up for Grey at this point, yes he had revived and even made a friendship stronger with Wolf. His favourite people had lived through the war, but something was missing and that was the sense of completion. He just knew it wasn't over and to be honest he was tired. Nothing seemed as appealing as the life he had lived before the war, when nothing he did really matter and the only life he was screwing up was his own.

Laughing a non-happy laugh, Grey said, "Anyone who takes out an entire tribe like the Mountain Lions isn't here to bring peace, happiness and prosperity. I really wish that I knew what their plan was and I wish I know how to just get them to stay to themselves, but I don't. And you and I have a hell of a lot more to lose."

Anger was bubbling in his veins, not toward his brother, but honestly toward the whole situation. "We have lost people but somehow we didn't lose anyone we really care about, nor did we lose the farm. I just want this part to be over with already."

Yeates stopped and stared at the hunching form of his brother, knowing that his shoulders were tensing with stress and anxiety knots but not finding his own temperature calming for the both of them. "Don't you think I know that?! I wake up everyday look at Anna and thank god that all she got was a busted leg," he was trying not to shout, not to get into it rough style while they were trying to fix up their home, "All I'm trying to do is keep things light, when those strangers storm into our land and start shouting the odds maybe we'll be able to spare the others and deal with it ourselves," this conversaion was going in circles, he'd atagonised his brother first and here he was getting riled afterwards.

Truth be told Yeates figured that responsibility still felt like a new coat to his older brother, one that didn't quite fit in the sleeves, or round the back, one that no matter how often you tried it on, just didn't feel right. "You do know you're not going to do this alone right? i'll be here and you know a busted leg isn't gonna keep Anna from poking her hot headed nose into the affair. And then, well there's always wolfy boy, he was quite the trooper during the tough times,"

Grey was angry now, and brooding with everything that was inside of him, "I have to play happy and friendly and nice, I shouldn't have to play that part with you." It was a low blow, but he had to get it all out, if for no other reason that for his brother to finally understand what Grey really needed of him.

"Sometimes you can't spin in right and thats when you need family to listen and get the bigger picture. It's easy to say 'everything is going to be okay' especially after a tough few months, and even more so when so many were lost. What's hard it having to tell everyone that and know that it's not that real truth and won't be until we can size up the new predator and figure out how much flesh they want from us." And Grey had a feeling that in the end this new tribe would want everything and everyone that Grey knew and loved. That was a big piece of flesh.

"I hate it all sometimes. I hate that we are always walking this narrow line while dodging bullets. It's something that I am finally figuring out how to deal with, but I cannot play friendly all the time, and sometimes I just need you to stop and listen and take on some of this burden instead of saying you are there and then denying that there is anything wrong." Grey was about to boil over, his rather large temper flaring once again. Taking a deep breath he turned around and started throwing more debris on the flames.

Will looked down at the ground, shame and regret washing over him, "I'm sorry," he meant it too. "It's been so long since we've done this, since we've just been brothers, you and me and no one else. There are soo many people depending on us I guess I forgot we weren't being guarded anymore," walking towards Grey he put a hand on the back of his shoulder.

"I'm scared too, I'm scared for me and you, for Anna and all of the tribe. I'm frightened more than I have ever been," he bit his lip, "I'm sorry,"
