Week Thirteen
Who: Reina (Open to anyone)
What: Pleasure reading and enjoying nature
When: Sunday around noon
Where: Along the Belle Fourche
Rating: TBD

Sundays were free days for all of the girls at the Palace. Whatever they wanted to do with their time was their business, and Reina enjoyed the time to get out herself for some time away from all the estrogen. Today she had slept in until 11, got up, hopped in the shower, and slipped into a cotton dress. She strolled down to the kitchen and packed a small lunch. She slipped the food along with her favorite novel into her purse and set out for a secluded little nook on the river. She went there almost every Sunday for a little quiet. As much as she loved talking and hanging out with her girls, she needed a little time to herself.

She stepped out of the door and set off down the street. It was about a 30 minute walk to the river, and another 5 to scramble through the brush to her perfect hideaway. She walked down the street contentedly breathing in the free air. She got to the river and set off through the brush to get to her spot. After scrambling through, she settled down against a large rock and opened her bag. She took out a sandwich and the book, Her Montana Man, a romance novel. She leaned her back against the rock, opened the book and bit into the sandwich as she began immersing herself in the book. How she loved her cowboys…

Gent woke up around ten and couldn't get back to sleep, no matter how much the pounding at his temples begged him. He couldn't call the headache a hangover... he hadn't imbibed in ages... but he hadn't been around town in a while and the steady thrum of noise from the city seemed to have taken its tole.

Easing off of his mattress, Gent pulled a white t-shirt over his head, slid into a pair of worn out shorts and picked a grey cap, a well-read paperback, and a grouchy Odile out of the chair near his bed. He needed some place quiet to just sit and relax but the isolation of his boat seemed unbearable. Tucking his book into his pocket and the grumpy persian into the crook of his arm, he plucked a jar of peanut butter, cayenne pepper, and wheat crackers from his pantry before braving the sunlight. Gent squinted, shielding his eyes from the comparatively bright outdoors and inhaling the fresh air along the river. He let Odile settle across his broad shoulders as he walked along the soft riverside. The earth felt good under his feet after so long on the water and the protein in the peanut butter did wonders on his head.

Meandering slowly along the shore, Gent was sprinkling spice onto his seventh peanut butter topped cracker when he noticed that he had intruded on a woman's solitude. She was tucked away into a bush alongside the gentle waters, the cool air toying with the ends of her long, dark hair and the edge of her dress. Her rather luscious-looking mouth was munching contentedly on a sandwich, her eyes trained on... a romance novel? Yep. The bare-chested cowboy on the tattered cover was definitely indicative of a good romance. Gent's lips tilted up at the corners as he popped his cracker into his mouth, chewed, swallowed, and shifted things around to his left hand so he could pull out his book with his right. Holding out the tattered copy of A Woman to Live For, Gent took a step forward and cleared his throat.

"Mind if I join'ya?"

Reina was deeply immersed in her novel. There were a few pages missing from the tattered paperback, but she had them memorized. After reading something 80 plus times, things stuck. She nibbled at the remaining crust of her sandwich and turned the page. The next bit was missing, but Reina didn't even miss a beat. She closed her eyes briefly, the scene playing out in her mind like an old record. The corners of her lips twitched upwards.

A throat cleared, bringing her back to reality, her eyes unfurled and caught site of a man holding an equally tattered novel in his hand. Reina smiled warmly, "Not at all." Reina scooted a bit over and patted the ground next to her. Day off or not, flirtatiousness was too deeply embedded into her to turn it off, especially around good looking men. "My name is Reina," the words flowed from her lips like water, "And who might you be, Mr. Tall Dark and Handsome?"

Gent sat down, careful not to jar Reina or the sleeping persian on his shoulder, and extended one large, warm, and rather callous hand in introduction.

"You, Miss Reina, can call me Gent. It's an absolute pleasure to meet such a lovely lady," He placed a light kiss on the hand she offered him, "especially one who is apparently as much of a fanatic as myself." Again, he held up his novel. "Anyone who's read a book until it's in that sorta state is definitely someone I wanna associate with."

A flirtatious grin spread over his lips. He never could reign in his smooth and spicy accent and it seemed to become even more pronounced when he was around a beautiful woman. And this woman was most definitely beautiful. Imagine this, he thought, going out to enjoy some solitude and finding some very nice company. Stretching out his long legs and crossing his ankles, Gent deposited his snacks at his side and lay his tattered book in his lap. It was one of fifty or so that he had kept when his mother had died and it was in a bit better condition than, Her Montana Man but then, he still had the box that his mother had kept them in. The thick plastic of it kept each book snug and dry, even on Le Coeur.

"You know, I have quite a few books on my boat if you ever wanna shake things up a little." His lips tipped up in a teasing manner. God help him, he just couldn't help those double ententes. He always managed to make an invitation out of the simplest sentence. Odile purred on his shoulder and he absent-mindedly stroked her thick fur. And here he was actually trying to be nice...

Reina took his offered hand and shook it firmly. He introduced himself and placed a chaste kiss upon it. "Pleasure to meet you Gent," she said, her eyes twinkling, "And likewise. Always nice to meet someone with similar tastes."

She was intrigued by this man. He must either be new or perhaps not one who was into visiting establishments such as her own. His accent was smooth and spicy, and he definitely had a way of moving his body to make the weaker sex swoon. On second thought, he probably had no problem seducing women to his bed, therefore why pay for what could be free?

"That would be most welcome," Reina cooed, "It seems that romance books are in short supply nowadays." She flashed a sultry grin his way, glancing at him from beneath her think lashes. His two sided offer did not go by unnoticed. 'He is rather sweet,' she mused, 'and he has no idea with whom he is dealing with.' "What a precious cat!" she remarked outwardly.

OOC: sorry it took me so long!

At Reina's exclamation, Odile lifted a rather pretentious-looking cat frown to see what all the fuss was about. She looked over the other woman as if sizing her up and, as if deciding she was worthy of her feline company, moved her gaze on to the rest of the reclusive spot until her eyes landed on Gent's food. One graceful leap landed her on the ground next to the peanut butter jar and she tapped at the lid with one delicate paw, saying please in her own manner and style.

"Precious my black bottom..." Gent said under his breath, then to his new acquaintance," Miss Reina, meet Odile, the queen of Le Coeur and the snobbiest feline that has ever sailed the muddy waters of the Mississippi." Although his words sounded like complaints, Gent couldn't help his loving smile as he spread peanut butter on a cracker, sprinkled it with pepper and put it on the ground between himself and Reina. The prissy persian leaped over his lap to snuggle into Reina's leg and take lady-like licks at the spicy dollop. Gent's smile broadened ever so slightly.

"Well I'll be..." He said as he repeated the process of preparing a cracker," I do believe you have a new best friend, Miss Reina." He reached over and scratched the cat's fluffy white head as he munched and gazed comptemplatively at the woman. In the last few times that he'd stopped in town, he'd never seen her before today. Was she new? Or, he supposed, there was always the possibility that she just never came down to the river.

"So, why don't I remember seeing such a pretty face when I've stopped into town before?"

OOC: No biggie! ^_^

Reina gently stroked the silken back of the feline, "I take it she doesn't warm up very quickly to others." Reina was always more of a cat person. Dogs were too slobbery for her taste, and she and cats... well they seemed to have an understanding. Both walk to the beat of their own drums, and both seemed to find themselves in self-beneficial situations more than not.

Reina continued to stroke Odile, "I suppose it depends on what part of town you frequent. I usually don't stray much from our little red light district." She added with a smile. It really wasn't much of a district, being only one building. But at the moment it was all Sundance had, and she was queen of it all. "So the next question is, why haven't I seen your handsome face around?"

Gent smiled as his normally picky cat purred under the touch of this relative stranger, "No. She has a particular taste in humans and it takes her a while to warm up to anyone, even the ones that she likes. But now it seems I have a rival for her attention." Odile rubbed her ears contentedly under Reina's hand.

Red Light District? Gent certainly hadn't heard about that in his past visits to town. One chocolate eyebrow shot up and his lips tipped up slightly at the corner.

"Red Light District? Well. I do need to venture away from the docks every once in a while. I'll admit, in my past visits to town I haven't wandered much farther than the Trading Post. I don't normally like being very far from the water. It's been bred into me as much as the color of my skin has..." Gent's voice trailed off as he gazed out at the river slipping quietly by.

Reina scratched the cats head, "Well I'm honored. Always good to have those who like you." She would really have to look into getting a cat of her own. It was surprisingly soothing to pet the animal. Now the only question was where in the world would she be finding a cat at this point in time?

Reina lifted her eyes to Gent's face in time to catch the questioning look. "Yep," she said, eyes twinkling, "You'll definitely have to come by for some TLC. All this time on the water? Sounds like you need a bit of shore leave." she added with a wink.

'Hmm', Gent thought with a smirk,' To much time on the water indeed.' The way Reina's lips kept moving was reminding him of just how long it had been since he'd has a female companion. Of course, this little minx probably had a man hidden somewhere and he had a strict no-sharing policy. Now if she didn't mind being stolen out from under this other guys nose... Gent shook what he was sure was a hungry look off of his face and smiled.

"Shore leave is just what I had in mind. You think too much when you're on the water alone and I'm about ready to find some place to stick to for a while. A'course I'll need to find a job... Can't stay in one place to long if you aren't useful..." He started brushing his hand over Odile's back as he contemplated what use he could possibly be of in town.

Reina wondered what Gent had running through his mind. She had a fairly good idea, having spent much of her time with a large quantity of men. But, then again, just when she thought she had a man all figured out, something would happen to throw her off. She hated not being able to read others as well as she wanted. Guessing seemed to waste time, and too many were not as direct as she wished. She figured she was just too damn controlling, but then sometimes that proved useful.

"I wouldn't doubt there will be plenty of opportunities coming up very soon," Reina murmured, "You'll find a place, I'm sure."

Gent lifted a brow. Semmed like someone knew about something important. He wondered if he had come to town just in time. There did seem to be tension in the air. It had been a while since he'd been in town. Were the tribes really still as peaceful as he remembered them being. When last he'd stayed with the Runners, all had seemed calm, but he supposed things wouldn't stay fine and dandy that way forever. Things would undoubtedly come to blows eventually. Lowering his brow, Gent smiled at Reina.

"Well, if a pretty lady tells me all will be well, I'll just have to believe her. I've no reason not too. But if you hear tell of any jobs or any help needed, I trust you'll give me a holler."
