Player's Name: Charlie the Unicorn
Character's Name: Lee Junki
Character's IJ: alovejunki
Nationality: Korean
What are they from? actor
Human/Mutant/Vampire: Mutant
Ability: Flamethrower with blue flames
Background: Junki was born in New York City, to a career woman who had no time to make a baby the traditional way - instead, she went to down to the local sperm bank. His mother was always honest with him about how he was made, and Junki often joked that if more people were grown in test tubes then maybe the world would be a prettier place.
He was 12 years old when his power first manifested. He'd spent the weekend playing a video game, and for hours he had been stuck on the final stage, never quite being able to beat the final boss. His frustration was getting worse and worse, until finally his hands exploded with bright blue flames. Terrified, he'd just sat there as the controller melted in his hands, and as the fear built in him so did the flames, and the carpet was soon on fire. It was the harsh beeping of the smoke detector that finally snapped Junki out of his panic enough to put the fire out before any real damage could be done. The flames had gone from his hands, and Junki was left fumbling for an explanation when his mother came home later that evening. Unfortunately when you're 12 years old and you say "My hands were suddenly on fire", your parents are going to take that as "I was smoking and/or playing with something I shouldn't have been playing with, and then it all went wrong, and now I'm making shit up to cover my ass because clearly you're a stupid parent for leaving me alone in the first place, so you're dumb enough to believe this too", and Junki found himself grounded for 'the rest of eternity'.
Luckily eternity seemed to only last a couple of weeks.
Not so luckily, the flames came back again. Whenever Junki was upset, frustrated, scared, or even really happy or excited, the flames would burst from his hands and he would be unable to control it. Puberty was bad enough, but going through puberty with some kind of freak uncontrollable power was even worse. He tried to talk to his mother about it, but of course she didn't take him seriously. Too many video games, she said, too many movies, too much time spent reading manga and comic books. When he continued to insist that it was real, she sent him off to a psychologist, but no matter how hard he tried, Junki just couldn't make the flames appear to prove he was telling the truth. The flames almost seemed to mock him, no matter how upset he was in front of his mother he couldn't make them happen, yet if he was angry while she was out, they would appear on their own. Things got burned so often that Junki soon learned to run into the bathroom when it started, because the tiles weathered the fiery abuse a lot better.
As time went on, Junki found it harder and harder to hide what was happening. He was accused of deliberately setting things on fire at school, suspended for a month after a fight in the boys locker room after gym class ended with the boy who'd started it having burn marks all over his face and arms.
Shortly after this, Junki decided to take up martial arts. A character in a manga he was reading had a super power they couldn't control, and took up martial arts to learn how to still their mind and control their emotions. Junki decided it sounded like a good idea, and took up kickboxing. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to help, and he was terrified about hurting someone else because of his power.
But as he got older, he found it easier to control his emotions, and if he could control his emotions, then the bursts of fire would happen less often. It didn't always work that way, but it did help a lot.
Junki is now 24, and working as a kickboxing instructor at a gym. His mother was promoted at work last month, and the promotion required her to take up a position at one of the company's branches over in Canada. She sold the apartment and gave Junki a portion of the profits so that he could find a small place of his own to rent. He's feeling the separation more than he thought he would, and his thoughts have been wandering towards his biological father, wondering who he is, what he does, where he lives now, what kind of family the guy might have. He isn't so sure if he should track him down or not, but he is thinking about it more and more.
With his power, the flames are always bright blue and will always begin with his hands. The flames can spread to the rest of his body, and often rapidly, but it will always begin with his hands. His own fire doesn't hurt him, but other flames do, and he is not able to manipulate them. He still can't control it, but lately he has been better at being able to tell when it's about to happen, and take himself somewhere away from everyone. He's well known among his friends as the person who will always run off in the middle of an argument, the person who would rather argue with you over the phone or on email than in person, but Junki figures its better to be called a coward and a pussy than it is to set your friends on fire.
He also has his own special chair, a metal one that he can sit and burn away on without having to worry about setting the place on fire, because sometimes he would like to be on fire while watching TV, and not having to run into the bathroom and miss the end of his shows.
Preferred RP Style: paragraph, IJ, why do we even have this question?
Anything Else: MOST BORING CLAIM I HAVE EVER WRITTEN. But Junki assures me his entries will be lively.
