Who: JD Stevenson (Narrative) What: Post Storm Reflection When: 20th July Rating: Low Status: Complete
In Louisiana hurricanes were just another fact of life alongside the long, humid summers and short, mild winters. JD was already in the Army and far away from the south when Katrina hit, his family were fine and seeing the news footage he was never so glad that they had never moved away from their little home town.
The guards had gotten a bit of a head’s up about the hurricane that was heading their way and he had talked about it with Ian, they knew that the big wigs would be taken to the mainland but everyone else had to stay which included them. The residents would need assistance and support during and after the storm and while they weren’t exactly the most popular people on the island, they were going to do it anyway.
JD and Ian ended up in The Facility where an ‘evacuation center’ had been set up, although it was pretty basic it seemed to be enough for those who had managed to get in there. People were reunited with loved ones that they had gotten separated from during the rush, altercations were broken up and support was offered to those who weren’t afraid of them. Natural disasters would do one of two things - make a community stronger or weaken it, JD really hoped that it would be the former and not the later.
Later on, once the storm had passed he heard that people had taken shelter in just about any building that was stronger their apartments and most had survived with only some minor injuries, but sadly not everyone. Medical was still packed but compared to what had happened in Katrina, it could’ve been much worse.
