It had taken a while for Adam to get things sorted out. More time then he'd care to admit. Still ending up in a new place, being thrust into a whole new life while also being cut off from the old one...it took a lot of time for Parish to process it all. Cooking helped though. It helped to throw himself into the work, and lose himself in recipes and dishes. Yet even hiding like that could only work for so long, before other parts of his old life started to bubble up anew. Mostly it was his friends that AC missed the most. His coworkers, companions, and the dinner parties he used to host too. Back home it was something of a monthly affair; people coming over with a dish or two all their own, and in the end they'd all share in a delicious potluck with good company.
Sure there had also been something of a healthy competitive nature to the gatherings as well, since more than a few of his old friends were chefs, bakers, and bartenders too. So their was always a little game to be had, a challenge to see whose dish would be judged the best of the night....and the winner would receive the ever so coveted 'golden apron', which was just an apron that said 'kiss the cook' on it, but had also been adorned in gold spray paint too. Of course with his gift Adam tended to win more often then not, yet it was never a sure thing by any means.
Here and now though, on the Island, Parish barely knew anyone at all. Even while working in the facilities' kitchen the chef tended to keep to himself. Yet that desire to reclaim some semblance of his old life keep eating at the young man until at last he finally decided to do something about it. A few weeks back AC posted a notice on the bulletin board in the Market; leaving an open invite to a potluck at his place today. Now that the big day was already here, and after spending most of the morning/and the prior night cooking up a few things for whoever showed up, he was finally ready at last. Oh he lack much in the way of furniture, yet a bit of bribery (namely a few dozen hot cinnamon rolls handed over to a guard or two) ensured he could borrow some folding chairs for folks to sit on.
When the door bell rang at last AC took one final glance back at the spread; frowning ever so slightly as he second guessed himself...for the hundredth time. It had taken a while to save up enough food to properly host a potluck. Most of the stuff he had was homemade as well. Everything from smoked apple beer brats, fresh baked sun dried tomato ciabatta bread rolls, and even an autumn spice cake with cream cheese frosting were there to be had. Along with a few side dishes too like seasoned Elote and spicy chili. A thousand different possible dishes crossed his mind, yet here and now it was already too late to go back. So instead Adam steeled himself, put on a bright smile, and headed towards the door to greet his guests.
