WHO:Jakob and Kyrie WHEN: August 27th WHERE: The Lighthouse WHAT: DTR and joining the ‘resistance’ WARNINGS: Manipulation STATUS: Completed (but delayed posting thanks to work)
______________
After his meeting with Roman and the go ahead for the next phase with Kyrie, Jakob waited for the perfect moment. Things with the maintenance man had been sorted to a point and tensions had eased slightly, though not back to normal. It actually worked in his favor. After all, guard tensions only helped him get her on his ‘side’.
So, Jakob planned the evening and after dinner he took Kyrie to ‘their spot’ atop the lighthouse. This time, they sat on the side facing the town. He’d brought some pillows for them to sit on and a blanket to snuggle under as it was night and a bit chilly. With the large blanket pulled over both their shoulders, forcing her close to him, Jake leaned in for a kiss- allowing her to come to him. This continued for a bit, he knew from their talks that she wasn’t experienced, and he’d admitted to not being as experienced as he was- so he made sure not to push her too hard into a place that would scare her and have her pull away. But a hand on her thigh hinted at intimacy while their lips collided hungrily with each other.
In a moment when they both needed to break for a nice breath, Jakob brushed his fingers through her hair and looked into her eyes. “You are so beautiful.” He told her softly before frowning and looking away, feigning shame. “I don’t deserve you- I’ve been…” He pursed his lips as if conflicted. “I’ve been lying…” His face crinkled as if disgusted with himself.
--
Kyrie had never met anyone in her life quite like Jakob. He was kind, beautiful, he cared about her and the people on the island more than anyone else. She found that admirable and wanted to be near him as much as possible. As inexperienced as she was, slowly she was learning what she liked and how to do things. She was growing comfortable with him in ways that she still found frightening but exciting.
He knew exactly how to impress her. He was so thoughtful. Dinner, being alone in their spot which overlooked the town on one side and the water on the other. It was a purely perfect, selfish vantage point and she felt as if it truly did belong to them.
Eyes had fallen closed once they’d started kissing. That had become one of her favorite things to do now that she felt confident enough to indulge. Fingers had curled into the fabric of his shirt at the shoulder, and only when the connection had severed for the collection of breath did her grip ease.
Breathlessly, Kyrie looked up at Jakob through dark lashes. But then something was changing. Leaning backward with confusion at his confession, her head would tip. “Lying?”
—
“About what I do. I mean I am a janitor- that’s true. But…” Jakob appeared to struggle with telling her the information he had to share. “I like you so much I don’t want to hide anything from you- I just don’t want you to get in trouble.” He turned to face her, his eyes appearing to be sad as he looked at her. “I’m part of a group of people on the island who… who think what the government is doing is wrong.” He shared, brow furrowing as he seemed to worry how she’d take the news. “Working as a janitor I can sort of spy on people who work for the government there. No one notices the guy taking out the trash.” No one notices when they’re not there too- which was why he had the job.
Jakob’s eyes turned down. “I’m so sorry I kept this from you.”
—
Her brow furrowed a little as Jakob began to confess what was on his mind, weighing on his shoulders. The idea that he was trouble had never crossed her mind. But then the part about being involved in a group who had the same idea as everyone else about the Government. She had mixed feelings about the guards, the Government. Frowning, she took a moment to process what Jakob told her.
Hands would lift. She lifted his chin gently and looked into his eyes, “You can tell me things,” she assured him quietly. “I didn’t know there was a group. What does this group do?” She was doing her best to understand.
Kyrie liked Jakob - more if she was being honest - and throwing everything they’d built away for something like that was silly. But she wanted to know more now that the bag had been opened.
—
“Not as much as we’d like- but we’re growing.” Jakob started. “I don’t want to tell you too much- it could be dangerous. But we really try to watch out for each other. Like that guard.” He looked into his eyes with a soft expression, he appeared to be opening himself to her, showing behind the curtain, vulnerability. “The one harassing you. That day I stepped in. We’d been watching him, and it was getting bad so I acted. But we watch and try our best to help and protect each other. One day, maybe we can push back… fight for our freedom.” Jakob could just imagine that. Letting a bunch of dangerous mutants back out in the world. The government was keeping people safe. But he knew the mindset of the terrorists.
—
Kyrie continued to listen - her expression was one of innocence, curious and worried yet intrigued - nodding slowly at Jakob to let him know she understood. The guard hadn’t bothered her lately but perhaps that was because he was involved in other things. The idea of fighting for freedom sounded like a dream. She felt afraid but also burdened with purpose.
“Let me help,” she offered, running her fingers gently across the line of his jaw. “I’ll stay out of trouble.” It was a promise she knew she couldn’t necessarily keep but she would do her best. “I can help you keep an eye out on people. The diner is a good place to watch and listen.”
—
Oh it was almost too good to be true. But he still needed to play it carefully, couldn’t appear over eager for her willingness to help.
Jakob leaned into her hand slightly as it touched his face. “Kyrie.” He said lovingly. “I can’t ask you for that. I can’t put you in danger.”
—
Her smile faded a little but she felt confident enough to persist, “Please. Let me help? I see a lot of things, I could tell you a lot about my customers.” Residents, guards. She was nearly invisible to a lot of people, regulars or those who only came to eat once in a while, and that seemed to be safe. Nothing had happened so far. “I know you’ll protect me if anything happens.”
Plus she could knock someone into next week, so there was that. People tended to forget just how strong she was. Kyrie even surprised herself once in a while.
“Please?”
—
Jakob’s brow furrowed and his hand slipped along to hold her face as he looked at her with a sense of seriousness. “You have to promise me you won’t tell anyone. Not even your friend Ben.” Who had given him the ‘big brother’ talk.
—
Shaking her head at Jakob, Kyrie smiled at him, “I promise. I don’t want anything to happen to you. I won’t tell anyone.” It would be a challenge not to tell Fitz, they shared nearly everything. Ezra wouldn’t know any differently but she felt a bit guilty hiding things from him. But if she could help them both, help her family, with a little secret then what harm could it bring?
Her arms wound around Jakob’s neck and she hugged him with delight, “Thank you for trusting me.” She didn’t like to lie but danger was something you didn’t mess with. That and she had her own fair share of secrets.
—
Jakob embraced her back. “You’re very brave.” He told her. “I’m so happy to have you as my girlfriend.”
Oh yes, any doubts she may have should hopefully wash away with the label- he hoped.
—
Kyrie leaned backward, eyes wide. Girlfriend? Her? Maybe she had a few doubts - how could someone like Jakob pick her out of all of the other options she knew were better suited? But her cheeks flushed with color regardless and her expression became a bit sheepish. How could she have doubted his loyalty?
Biting at her bottom lip, her smile returned, brightening. “Girlfriend? I like being your girlfriend.” She felt silly saying the word, almost as if she were calling herself a princess.
Leaning forward she caught his mouth and kissed him gently.
—
Jakob smirked a bit amused at her reaction. “Good. I like being your boyfriend.” He said as they continued to kiss. Oh he wouldn’t push her farther than that, but he would pull her close again. He was pleased, hopefully Roman would be pleased as well.
They kissed a bit longer before Jakob took her home. Reminding her gently to not talk to anyone else about what they talked about, but that he really appreciated her help. He kissed her deeply on her doorstep before letting her go for the night. “Sweet Dreams.” He wishes her, lingering the release of her hand. “I’ll see you at the diner tomorrow.” Once the door was shut he returned to his apartment and reported the successful acquisition of an asset. He slept quite soundly that night.
