Nora was ready to go home. The meeting was over and she was itching to get out of here before she got shanghaied by him. She wouldn’t know what to say to him if he approached her so she was looking around for her sister in order to get out of there as soon as possible. The sooner she had Marie, the easier it would be to leave.
Peter eventually decided to take Daryn’s advice. It was best to talk to her. He couldn’t just ignore her. So when her back was turned he got closer. “She’s talking to the guy over there,” he said, guessing where she was looking and sensing her urge to get out of the space they were in.
Nora nearly jumped out of her skin when he spoke to her, not expecting it. She sighed and turned around, crossing her arms over her chest as she watched him. “Thanks,” She said, sure it sounded a little surly. “So...you made it.”
“Well you did invite me. Or did you rethink that?” he asked, watching her, catching that tone and wanting to say something, but not. So she hated him. That wasn’t news. It just was news that it bothered him so much.
“No I haven’t rethought it yet.” All she’d been thinking about was that kiss, which was one hundred percent the reason she was so annoyed to see him right now. She was seriously staring at his lips, which was more than annoying. “Do you think you’ll stick it out and join?” This time when she spoke, her voice was less snipy, less prickly.
He knew what she was looking at. He could tell. But he wouldn’t do more about that just yet. Maybe later. “I’m still deciding. It’s a good cause, but I’m not one for lost causes.” That was suicide. And Peter wasn’t suicidal.
“We don’t exactly live in a world you can have the luxury of not participating in lost causes and...wait, this isn’t a lost cause,” Nora said, eyes narrowing a little. “If you think we’re a lost cause, why are you still here?”
