(CHRIS and WYATT are in the kitchen mixing a potion when CADYN orbs in with DEVON. DEVON looks a bit shaken and CADYN looks rather furious. She helps him into a chair and goes to the cabinet to get a class of water for him.)
CADYN: This is getting ridiculous.
(CHRIS has been watching CADYN since she arrived and speaks first.)
CHRIS: Another attack?
(CADYN gives DEVON the water and puts a hand on his shoulder comfortingly.)
CADYN: Of course. As if it’s not enough stress to hear someone go “hey, nice game. oh and, by the way, you’re a witch and I’m your guardian angel of sorts”, add in there that demons want your head on a platter and you’ve got a small cocktail party.
WYATT: Is he injured?
CADYN: I don’t think so.
(CADYN looks at DEVON with a questioning look.)
DEVON: No, I’m fine. Just… a bit confused…
WYATT: What’d Cadyn not explain?
(CADYN shoots WYATT a “dirty” look. DEVON takes a drink and shakes his head.)
DEVON: It’s not that. I just don’t get why they’re after me. I didn’t even know I was a… a witch until a few days ago.
(CADYN comes around and sits down at the table beside him.)
CADYN: That’s a long story, but I can tell you that you’re not the only one they’re after. The demons are slaughtering pretty much all withces. They want them all dead, especially ones that don’t know what they are. If they can’t use their active powers, then they can’t fight back.
DEVON: But why now?
(CHRIS cuts CADYN off as she goes to explain.)
CHRIS: They’re trying to get the upper hand on good.
(He comes around the table and sits on it across from CADYN, giving her a ‘let me explain this’ look.)
CHRIS: We’re in the middle of a war that’s been going on since the dawn of time. A never ending battle between good and evil. Nearly thirty years ago there were three sisters, witches like you. They were called The Charmed Ones. It was prophecized that, together, they’d have enough power to destroy all evil in the world. It took them roughly ten years, but they did it.
WYATT: At least that’s what they thought they’d done. There can’t really be a world without evil, though. It has to be present for the world to function. The same thing goes for good. You can’t have one without the other.
DEVON: Wait, so you’re telling me there was once a world without demons? All because of these “charmed ones”?
(WYATT and CHRIS nod)
WYATT: Basically, yes. The demons were never really gone though, just weakened.
DEVON: Okay, so where are these sisters now? Why aren’t they vanquishing everyone’s sorry asses?
CHRIS: The sister’s are still alive; living the normal lives they always wanted. But it’s not as simple as them just getting together for the greater good.
DEVON: Why not?
CADYN: Because they’re not The Charmed Ones anymore. They cast a spell on themselves passing The Power of Three onto three unknown witches.
DEVON: Okay, so where are those three then? Get them to do it.
CADYN: That’s just it. No one knows who they are. They don’t even know who they are. The Power of Three will only reveal itself at the right time. When the balance between good and evil becomes perfectly even. Right now, the scale’s still tipped in good’s favor.
DEVON: So… what you’re telling me… is that we’re pretty much screwed.
(WYATT, CADYN and CHRIS answer in unison.)
WYATT: No.
CADYN: No.
CHRIS: No.
(CADYN reaches out and touches DEVON.)
CADYN: We’ve just got to have faith in The Power and stay safe. It’s the only option we have.
DEVON: There’s no way to find them? Not even through… scrying? Like you did with me?
(CHRIS’ expression brightens slightly, but WYATT and CADYN shake their heads no. CHRIS gets up and goes into the living room while WYATT explains his answer.)
WYATT: Scrying only works for other witches, and we don’t even know if the new Charmed Ones know they’re witches yet.
CADYN: I’ll be right back.
(CADYN gets up and follows CHRIS into the living room. CHRIS is pacing around the living room talking to himself. CADYN slowly walks further in, a brow raised slightly, and talks to him softly.)
CADYN: Chris?
(CHRIS turns to her and laughs.)
CHRIS: Why can’t we scry for them, Cade?
CADYN: You know why we can’t. They may not know their witches, which means it won’t work. Besides, we only know we’re looking for The Power. If it doesn’t want to be found or is dormant, we won’t be able to find it. Not without something to link to it.
CHRIS: That’s just it. We do have something to link to it; The Book of Shadows. My mom still has it in her attic. If we used that to scry for them, we may be able to find them. At least one of them.
(CADYN looks at CHRIS a bit skeptically for a moment, thinking it over in her head. Shortly thereafter she shakes her head and looks away, then back at him.)
CADYN: I don’t think it’ll work.
CHRIS: But its worth a shot right? C’mon, you can’t tell me you’re not in the least bit curious. And if it does work then we can use The Power of Three to our benefit.
(CADYN shakes her head again and looks up at him indignantly.)
CADYN: No, Chris. The Power will come out when its ready to. Not before, not after. Things have to happen in order or else you could tip things very badly. You know that.
CHRIS: How can this end badly?! Cade, we’d be bringing The Power out! We’d be doing this for The Greater Good! There is no bad in that.
(CADYN shakes her head again and turns from him.)
CADYN: You know it’s a risky thing to do just as much as I do. And you know I won’t help you do it. If you want to do it on your own time, then so be it, but don’t involve me or DEVON.
(CHRIS’ jaw sets in hard determination and he crosses his arms over his chest.)
CHRIS: Fine, I’ll just get Wyatt to help me.
(At that moment, WYATT and DEVON enter the living room.)
WYATT: Help you with what?
(CADYN looks up quickly as he appears in front of her and back over her shoulder at CHRIS.)
CADYN: A wild goose chase, that’s what. C’mon DEVON, lets get you home.
(DEVON looks between WYATT and CHRIS and nods once, taking CADYN’s hand and they orb out of the apartment. WYATT looks from the spot where CADYN was to CHRIS, a question in his eye.)
WYATT: Do I get an explanation for that?
(CHRIS sighed heavily and let his arms drop to his side, shrugging lightly.)
CHRIS: I just thought of something and Cadyn doesn’t agree with me, as usual.
WYATT: What did you think of?
CHRIS: A way to find out who The Destined are.
WYATT: How?
CHRIS: Scry for them.
(WYATT goes to shoot down the idea but CHRIS silences him by holding up his hand and continues into an explanation.)
CHRIS: I know, the whole witch thing and not having something of theirs. Spare me, Cadyn already tried that attack. But what if we didn’t scry for them persay? What if we scryed for The Power using The Book of Shadows?
(WYATT thought about it for a moment and slowly nodded.)
WYATT: That could work…
CHRIS: Exactly, but Cadyn doesn’t think we should go looking for it. She says that things have to be taken in time. That we have to sit back and watch witches and whitelighters alike die while the balance is evened out.
WYATT: She’s partially right you know, it’s dangerous.
CHRIS: Alright, fine. But can we atleast try it? If we get a hit, we don’t have to do anything. There’s no harm in just checking.
(WYATT was silent a moment as he thought and CHRIS looked at him expectantly.)
CHRIS: Well…?
WYATT: Alright, but mom’s gotta be there.
(CHRIS made a slight face but doesn't fight WYATT.)
CHRIS: Always involving the parents, aren’t you?
WYATT: Hey, its her book, and she doesn’t have to let us use it.
CHRIS: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let’s just get this over with.
(CHRIS orbs out of the apartment with WYATT close behind.)
