Current mood: anxious

I hope its okay if I join...
My name is Kimi and I am 20 years old. I have mild autism, ADHD, severe anxiety, A slow learning disability and possible Dyscalculia. I am looking for friends that are like me and to have people who are willing to let me share my experiences with my disabilities and maybe even get more infortmation about them so I can help my parents understand what they are.

I am a very caring person and very friendly. I can get pretty upset over little things and sometimes even my emotions get the best of me. I am currently disabled and unable to work, receiving SSI benefits for all my disabilities.

I hope I can make some friends here and not get teased because I am different. I can also be very shy so if I don't talk to you or post comments to your LJ, its not because I don't like you or anything. I have trouble with being able to open up to people, even online.

I only have severe anxiety but I also have autism and ADHD. There isnt very many communities around here that will be able to help me meet people that are like me. GJ is full and I've been trying to get into there too but it doesnt seem like it will happen. :[

I'm overly shy and have panic anxiety issues along with depression.

I'm not sure about autism and ADHD, I'm sure there must be someone around here with those.

I don't think I've ever been diagnosed with depression but I know my dad says he has it and takes medication for it.

By the way, is it okay if I add you? I need someone who is willing to read my posts, at the least. For now, I have an entry that talks about my issues with anxiety.

yes so long as you are over 18. I have some posts that are very adult in content. I write fan fic as a form of therapy.

Don't worry, I'm 20 years old. Adult content doesnt really bother me that much. XD

Good :D I do put up warnings and stick things behind cuts to save people from reading things they'd rather not see.

Hello!
I'm about to turn 21 (another week!), and can't work because my severe depression and anxiety combined make it really hard for me to keep a job for longer than a day. I'm not on disability, but i'd qualify, if i could get the proper documentation. so i know what that situation feels like...

i can only socialize via the internet. i *HATE* it when people give me crap for that, because my options are internet or nothing. yeah, the internet is less healthy than irl, but it's better than nothing, and healthier than constant panic attacks.

anyway. that's a rant for another day.

Hi, and welcome.

You know, autism, ADHD, anxiety... they are all related to depression. The more we learn about them, the more we learn that they are caused by variations in the way our brains are "wired." They don't work in today's society, at least not so well, but I suspect they are adaptive measures of some sort.

Take, for example, seasonal affect depression. If all you wanna do is lie around and not do anything, and you live in a highly northerly location, you won't burn off a lot of calories, will you? That seems kind of adaptive to long harsh winters. The fact that society forces us to go on at the same pace all year is why the problems arise.

I think autism and ADHD and so on are also possibly adaptive measures gone awry. I am happy that there are some ways to treat them, but also I am happy that we are learning to adapt our thinking to recognize some useful aspects. For example, without my ADHD, I sincerely doubt I could perform my job duties!

Anyway, welcome, welcome, welcome. If we can help you out, PLEASE let us know.

Out of curiosity, what is your job?

I work as a web designer for a government contractor. This tends to require a lot of jumping from task to task as our client re-prioritizes... sometimes hourly.

It's fine if you join! :) Welcome to our community and I hope you found/find some people willing to read your entries and listen to you/give advice. I've depression and am capable enough to go to college (though right now I'm failing). I'm not an American citizen so I've no experience with disability help from the government. I don't even know if my government does that...

*hugs*
