Anyone here used lorazepam/Ativan? The doctor I saw today gave me five pills of it to try if I need to, just wondering about people's experiences with it.

I've never personally used it, but I know some folks who have been on Ativan for anxiety and had good experiences with it.

It's a tranquilizer, no mistake about it. Unfortunately, I'm very drug-sensitive, less affects me than most people, even though I'm a heavy person.

I take only one 0.5mg and let it dissolve under my tongue (it absorbs the quickest that way to your brain) when I'm having an anxiety attack. Do you mind if I ask, for reference sake, what the dose of your pills is and how often were you told to take them?

Er, also... Not to worry you overly, but most tranquilizers are addictive. Not sure if it's chemically or psychologically for Lorazepam/Atavin in particular, but it can be both in some cases.

What I mean is that it's a drug you'd best take *only* when you truly need it, like during panic attacks.

Yeah I was warned that it's quite addictive. They're 1mg pills and they're supposed to just be when I need them (though I did try one before bed the other night along with my seroquel and found that I slept better and didn't have nightmares, which was a nice change). Though I have issues with taking any drug regularly anyway - I build a resistance to chemicals very, very quickly, which is why I can't get sleeping pills anymore, I ended up taking twice the recommended dose and still only sleeping 4-6 hours. Which is a bad thing with things that are chemically addictive.

I hope you can find something else that isn't medication to maybe help. Are there certain things that will make you sleepy, even when you don't want to be?

For me that was remembering the voice of one of my college profs. No matter how much sleep I had, he'd get me snoring in no time. ;)

Also, maybe playing some music at night or using a fan for white noise. Especially calming music or maybe ambient noise CDs.

I used to feel similarly with pills, but they work best if you also change your habits, IME. Been taking various drugs for depression for at least... um.... 12 years now.
