From day to day, everyone had their own little problems; whether it be footwear of something going wrong with a car. But Horizon provided them with everything, and replaced what they could when they could, so they didn’t really have any right to complain. So there was nothing stopping them from kicking up a stink, but what was the point in it? They didn’t have to pay for anything anymore, and while Darrien had, in part, gone into his field because of the monetary advantages, he was still in it for the love of the work. And besides, what was so bad about doing something you were good at in return for shelter, food and other amenities?
Of course, with the supplies being limited since the delivery hadn’t arrived, they had a few more things to moan about. He’d been gearing up to reply to Mackenzie when she cut herself off with a sneeze, and one of his brows lifted instead. The other engineers spared the woman a glance, and then went back to their discussion. “Getting a cold?” he asked her, hands finding his pockets while they weren’t working on anything in particular, looking down at Mackenzie beside him. Getting a cold wasn’t necessarily anything to panic about, but who knew where things could lead? Maybe the Medlab had something that could help her out. Then again, maybe not; they’d been hit by the shortage as much as anyone else had.
