you left something undone;
“Oh… shoot.” As a general rule, she tried not to curse or use any other foul language when in the vicinity of the school building, but some things just made her strain against her own ‘rules’. Dark hair spilling around her neck and shoulders, the teacher sighed, looking down at the mass of white around her feet, which were protected by a practical pair of snow boots. When inside, she always changed into a different pair of boots, ones with a sensible heel and always dark in colour, but when out and about, she always worse these insulated ones. It was a well known fact, or at least she thought so, that heat was mostly lost from the body through the feet, hands and head. She was wearing her gloves, which was likely the reason she had had the accident in the first place — she just didn’t have the admirable dexterity some people seemed to have developed since the nuclear winter had set in — but her hat was tucked under her arm. Warm breath clouded in front of her face while she breathed, nudging some snow with the toe of her boot to try and see if something would peek up at her from the thick blanket.

Nothing. Damn.

Kelly Davenport shoved her hat into her bag, setting the satchel on the hood of her car, a modest-sized ‘truck’, if that was even the right word, and proceeded to bend down without the hindrance of personal possessions weighing her down, in order to brush through the topmost layers of snow. “Come on, come on,” she muttered, sighing with a hint of frustration, shaking her head. This was why she needed a good chain for her keys; this wasn’t the first time she had dropped them, and she couldn’t exactly just whip out a spare set. Mainly because she didn’t own a spare set. All she wanted to do was fetch something from the backseat of her car, maybe make a quick trip to one of the simpler eating establishments, those who could still make food for distribution during the supply shortage, for a quick bite, before she came back and continued with the busywork that some of the other faculty members tended to leave to the last minute. Kelly liked to be organised, to have her simple lesson plans in place for the next day before the students started to stumble out of the bed the following morning. At least one of her co-workers operated that way, she knew that for a fact.

All she wanted to do was finish the plans and go to her apartment to watch some predictable reruns on the slightly battered television set that usually kept her company in the evenings. At this rate, she would be spending the night in the parking lot.

( SERAPHINE )

Sorry it's short.

It seems that Kelly and Sera were opposites in their own way. They were still compatible but still very different. They had offered a car to Seraphine as well but she turned down their offer, not finding the need to drive anywhere. Plus, she didn't really want someone to sit there going through her awful driving skills telling her everything she'd done wrong. She was just fine with running away from all of that.

Walking up to Kelly, she didn't really hesitate to get on her hands and knees. The nuclear winter was deadly cold but her pants were waterproof and the cold rarely bothered her. She took the snow in sections and felt around, occasionally bringing them and blowing on them before slipping them back in. “It's no problem.” Though she lacked the feeling, she felt pressure from nerves under the skin. Pressing down against the ground and snow, she felt something and brought it to the surface. Opening her palm, she found a rock. “Not the right thing.” Throwing it behind her, she tried again. It was only a minute before she came up again, this time with keys. “These yours?” She handed them to Kelly and then noticed her hands. They were purple in color and covered in white lines, the reminence of scars. Sera quickly rubbed them together and gave her a smile, waiting for the color to become normal again. “Hi, I'm Sera.”

Who was it who said opposites attracted? Of course, that usually applied to people who ended up together as a romantic pair, and to each their own, but, well. However, it could apply to people who might end up as friends, and Kelly believed in all sorts of things like that. Right at the moment though, she was just thinking about that grate that might be below the snow she was digging through. Random thoughts could come later.

Smiling at the woman as she came down to help, the next few minutes were spent rooting and digging, before a gloved hand came up with first a rock, and then a set of keys. A second of inspection showed that they were in fact Kelly’s, and her smile reflected that. “Oh, you’re a lifesaver.” Taking the keys, she told herself not to notice the other woman’s hands, instead focusing on the introduction. “I’m Kelly. Thank you so much for this. It would have been so much hassle to get them replaced.” Especially now, with the shortage. Rising to her feet, she offered Sera a hand to shake, both in introduction and thanks alike. “I was just about to head for a bite to eat, if I can find anywhere that’s open. Can I give you a lift somewhere? It’s the least I can do.”
