Decompression [tag: Hermes]
It was a good show.

Zeus had seen pretty much every major show in Vegas over the years. “Pretty much” instead of a definitive statement because he wasn't as fond of the musical headliner acts -a la Celine Dion, and tended to avoid them. But, he was quite fond of Cirque du Soliel. There was only one show of Ciruqe's that he hadn't seen yet and that wasn't for any lack of desire. It was for lack of opportunity and proper company that would appreciate it.

So when Hermes agreed to join him for a night of frivolity on the strip, he decided it was time to see Zumanity over at the New York, New York. They could easily see the show before heading over to the Bellagio -Zeus' favored hotel/casino for betting his money. Anything to get away from Olympus and the memory of that horrid dinner he had been privy to.

His son was sometimes more like a friend than a subject -a rather dangerous way to view him but Zeus had little fear that Hermes had his sights set on the throne. This son was no threat to his position. Besides, they worked closely together and knew each other quite well. Hermes would know to expect out of this evening that there would be a show, some gambling and very likely some lovely ladies (or gentlemen, they didn't discriminate) to escort up to a multi-room suite later. Zeus may have had an expansive bit of property in Vegas, but he didn't bring mortal lovers there. That was asking for trouble.

The show had been good and while there were moments of rather overt sexuality and sensuality demonstrated in the production, the King of Olympus had no shame. Other than them both being Greek and accustomed to such displays, he and his son were flanked by quite the mass of women. And Zeus didn't miss the looks the one sitting nearest to him was giving him throughout the show. He smiled, nodded, and turned back to the show. She was a touch young for his tastes.

“Thoughts?” He asked his clever son as they stood from their seats in the theater. The question could have been related to the show, could have been related to the women that kept looking at them which was a common enough occurrence that it didn't phase Zeus one bit, it could have been related to the conversation they shared prior to show start about the dinner he'd had with three of his daughters and Hera, or it could have been in regards to if Hermes was ready to move on elsewhere. Whichever was chosen, Zeus had a response for that.

"Provocative. A good balance of sensual and sexual without being too sleezy." Which Hermes would not have expected of something under the Cirque du Soliel name. To the Messenger, it wasn't about the sex, but about the beautiful, living, kinetic display of art.

It was good to be out with his father. Over the years, their relationship had gone through many changes. It still did, on some occasions. Son, friend, messenger, whipping boy, confidante- he was many things to Zeus, just as Zeus was many things to him. Perhaps it was the long life, or maybe just the way they related to each other, right from the first day of his birth. Whatever the reason, if Hermes wanted a "night on the town", Zeus was among his top choices of companions, and it didn't even occur to him to turn down the invite.

Until the night waned, and a different sort of companionship was preferred. And between the two of them, that was nothing Hermes ever had to worry about finding. Like his father, Hermes had not missed the glances and smiles they received from those around them. They both had that certain "something", as the mortals called it, and they both knew how to use it to their advantage. But that was for later, though for just a moment his eyes strayed to a young man, perfect, blonde, something in his features rather like his own lovely Apollo. Not only did the man notice him, but so did the redhead on his arm. A lovely trio they could be, to be sure but...well, this was not yet the time.

That didn't mean he couldn't plant the seeds...

"Bellagio, then?" Hermes asked his father, perhaps just a little too loudly.

Hermes, as expected, had the perfect description of the show. His son was a silver-tongued devil at times, but he generally could be expected to have a clear, clever and concise way of describing things. It was that deeply ingrained Trickster nature with a mind that was probably too brilliant to be expected to always do what was expected in the manner expected. It was why Zeus generally had the strict opinion that if Hermes was kept occupied he wasn't causing trouble. This was one of the many reasons Zeus had invited him.

That and he was just a damn good companion to have along.

He nodded at the assumption that they would go to the Bellagio and quietly the girls near them started whispering between each other that maybe they should go to the Bellagio, too. Well, Zeus certainly wouldn't tell them they couldn't, but they were a bit young for his tastes. Probably newly 21. Age hadn't been a concern in the old days, but mortals were far more worldly at 21 in ancient times than they were now. Now it was all “omg” and “lol” and that wasn't just in texts. They actually spoke that way, too.

It was enough to make Zeus roll his eyes as one of the girls said, “o. m. g.” -the letters, not what it stood for, as she looked Hermes over. Though, his son's eyes were drawn elsewhere. Which was alright, though maybe Hermes would prefer to meet him at the Bellagio. “Share a car or catch up with me there?” He asked, knowing full well the neither had to take a car nor had to arrive together. It was just classier to arrive in a fancy car and have people gush over him.

Zeus was well known at the Bellagio. Especially in the high roller areas. There would be fussing, wondering how much money he's gain or lose on this night. It was a 50/50 shot either way, but he hoped with Hermes with him tonight luck would be on his side.

Hermes almost laughed aloud at the girls twittering among themselves over the Bellagio. Well, they could certainly go, there would be nothing stopping them. Until they tried to get into the high roller areas he and his father would likely end up in. Only the elite, those with deep enough pockets and strong enough connections, got into those rooms.

As for the blond and the redhead- well, it was a pity, but there were plenty more where they came from and the night was young. If they happened to be nearby later in the evening, picking up on his hint, he wouldn't think twice about inviting them to accompany him later. And if he found someone more enticing in the meantime, they would get over it.

"Share, certainly. The night is young." Zeus would understand exactly what Hermes meant. "I wouldn't dream of missing a second of watching your losses escalate in perfect synchronicity to my own winnings piling up." He smirked, both of them knowing it was never in Hermes' best interest to pit himself against Zeus. When he played, it would be at a different table. He still preferred not having his hair get singed.

Zeus laughed. Mostly because he knew damn well Hermes wasn't foolish enough to play at the same table he did. His son was a tricky fellow and sometimes he did things that Zeus knew weren't exactly game legal or casino approved. However, like Zeus, Hermes spent a great deal of care into covering his tracks and the only reason Zeus was even aware of what his son pulled was because he knew his son and what he was capable of. It was his keen perception that keep him King of Olympus.

“Well,” he said as their row finally shuffled out the theater and into the hall of the casino. Leading the way to the valet, Zeus nodded to the employee and handed the man a yellow ticket for them to fetch his car. “I would be inclined to hope that you would find it in your expansive heart to not be too upset when I crush your winnings with the masse of my own.”

It was friendly competition only. He knew Hermes was more skilled at gambling thanks to his skill at sleight of hand and a bit of luck, but Zeus lacked nothing in confidence. It was what gave him that cool, collected appearance that people came to expect from him.

Within moments his silver Aston Martin Rapide was pulled up, flawless as it should have been, and the keys handed over from the valet to their rightful owner. Zeus liked Aston Martins. There was something about the make that he couldn't refuse. He stood back for a moment, admiring his car. He loved his cars like his loved his horses -fast, sleek and expensive.

"Get in," he said a moment later and headed to the driver's side.

Hermes never tired of watching the Aston pull up to the curb. Man, that was one pretty car! But while he'd taken his chances with Hades' jag- and almost got busted for it- he couldn't see "borrowing" his father's Rapide. Hermes still preferred his skin intact. But his dad had good taste.

He got in as requested, rising to Zeus' challenge. "As if!" Childish, and not very convincing. They both knew if Hermes wanted to, he could kick Zeus' ass at the tables. Again, self-preservation had its high points.

Running his hand across the dash, he turned to grin at his father. "So, you ever want to lend me this bad boy? Bet the chicks love it..." There was a yearning in his voice, but it was light. He didn't really expect Zeus would give him his car. Though he wondered what Hera though of it.

"So what tables are you leaning toward tonight?" What Zeus chose to play would dictate where Hermes went. He'd be a complete idiot to play the same game. Unless it was the same game at a different table. Oh, this could be fun. Competing without doing so directly.

“Buy your own,” He said and gave Hermes a sidelong glance. Zeus did not loan his cars to anyone. Not even his favorites were allowed to drive his cars. “And buy it in Greece. The economy needs all the help it can get.” It wasn't a lecture so much as advice. Hermes would know the tumultuous state of affairs in their homeland.

Pulling out of the lot and onto the strip, Zeus thought on where he would play tonight. He didn't usually stick to one thing. Poker, blackjack and baccarat were his favorites. Sometimes he ventured to the roulette or craps tables, but that wasn't as frequent. Most nights he moved from game to game as it suited him. Tonight he was in the mood for rather high wagers, for the risk involved.

“First,” he said, “I shall find an ornament.” That was all his lady friend for the evening would be. Perhaps a lover when the hour grew late, but mostly she would be there for show. Zeus didn't discriminate between the sexes, especially in terms of the bedroom, but there was something to be said for a beautiful woman dressed to the nines at the crook of his arm while he won or lost games. “Then, I shall have my usual spot at a table in the private baccarat room. If I leave and where I go from there will depend on how the night goes.”

He was a big fan of baccarat and it had nothing to do with James Bond and everything to do with risk, skill and the fact that it attracted very high rollers – the crème de la crème of gambling society. Zeus had played against the best the mortal bourgeois had to offer.

Buy your own. As if that was the solution to everything. Hermes COULD buy one, certainly, but where was the fun in that? Though, stealing from his father was not a particularly bright idea. And the car was a little too fantastical for it too disappear and not be noticed tooling around later. Even mortals would notice that, since Hermes had a penchant for fast. One didn't drive around Olympus at high speeds in sports cars.

Pity.

Still, Hermes thought it was a challenge that might be worth rising to. Until Zeus had to go and mention the economy. A stolen car would not help that along much. Hermes let the subject go with a sigh. Today a car, tomorrow a yacht. He didn't really want to own it, just play with it. There was a difference. If Hermes bought everything he wanted on a whim, he'd need his own mountain to store it all.

"I think it'll be roulette for me tonight." Baccarat might be favored by Zeus, but his son liked something a little bit more exciting than cards, no matter the stakes. "I also think more than one ornament for me tonight," he added as the car pulled up to the casino and they climbed out of the car. Hermes would have an entire entourage if it were up to him. "The more, the merrier, you know," he grinned mischievously.

"Catch you later," He made a clicking noise out the side of his mouth, his fingers forming a gun coming down in a shooting motion. "Don't play too hard, I don't know if I'll be around later to bail you out."
