Checking up on things (open)
Athena hadn't been to Mt. Olympus in a while. Not because she didn't want to, but because things were a bit hectic down on earth. What she was doing down there was anyone's guess. Probably trying to prevent a lot of people from dying. In any case, she was home now and that was all that mattered. What was going on with the others, only time would tell. She wasn't big on gossip, but she did want to know what was going on.

Upon arrival though, she had gone to her rooms and changed her clothes. Then she had gone to find someone. She didn't know who was around, but she would figure that out eventually. People generally couldn't mind their own business and might come to see her if they knew she had arrived. Of course she hadn't actually told anyone that she was coming. There was the difficulty.

Pushing open the doors of the main hall, Athena came inside and looked around. "Hello? Anyone actually around?"

Gilded wings spread, Iris soared through the skies of Olympus. It was faster than walking, but more personable than just stepping in and out of concept. Really, if she couldn't be bothered to be seen openly, no one was going to flag her down. Which, when she was on business for Hera, wasn't necessarily a bad thing. It made her efficient. Sometimes, however, it was far better to be seen.

Though, truthfully, it tended to depend on what she was wearing. Some outfits were not conducive to having wings springing from near her shoulder blades. Skill through the ages had taught her proper positioning of her legs and feet to retain her modesty and avoid losing a cherished shoe.

Given the limited amount of air traffic over Olympus, even considering the number of winged deities about at any given time, Iris felt perfectly comfortable flipping through her planner as she flew the familiar path back to Hera's. Even with all the technology available, she still found it was more efficient to write shorthand on a paper based planner than to spend time flipping through menus and typing in entries.

She crossed off her latest task on the list, which had taken her to mainland mortal Greece, and smiled when she realized she had the rest of the afternoon free. That was until later. Triple H was tonight...

Happy Hour Hermes

More gossip than anything else, it was disguised as a standing business meeting between coworkers. No one ever questioned it and Iris even suspected that Hera knew the truth about these... 'meetings.' She was just about to head for Hera's when that familiar tickle she got when another deity was around struck. She hovered and looked down.

Athena.

Curious, Iris set herself down before the Olympian's door, closed her planner and politely knocked at the front door. It wasn't really her job to check in on Athena, but she had been gone for quite a while and Iris both wanted to know why and have some information to take back to Hera. The Queen definitely liked to know what was going on where and when... not months later.

"Athena, it's me, Iris."

Just as Athena thought that maybe no one actually was around, she heard something. The sound of wings perhaps, or footsteps. She turned around and went for the door to open it. It could have been anyone of course. And maybe she hadn't really been around enough. People didn't know when she was just going to drop by, so she shouldn't have been so surprised that it was Iris there standing at the door.

"Iris, hello." Of course she wasn't an idiot. Whatever Athena said to her was going to be taken back to Hera. Not that it really mattered, Athena didn't have anything to hide, and she didn't quite care what Hera knew. She didn't smile. Seeing Athena with an actual smile was a rare feat. Something she reserved for her father, or someone who could actually make her laugh.

"I was just wondering if there was anyone about. I guess I kind of just dropped in without announcing I was coming. Everyone out?" she asked, gazing around slightly as if to make her point. Apparently daddy was out for the .. day maybe? One way to find out.

"Is my father here?"

Hmm. No smile to accompany the greeting. Well, that was alright. Iris closed her planner and gave the smile she hadn't received. “Welcome back to the mountain,” she said. It wasn't all that uncommon for any deity to be gone for an extended period of time these days. The mortal world held many wonders all its own and then, for some of them, Concept was the preferred place to dwell. Personally, Iris found the idea of simply being in her purest of forms to be dreadfully boring, but to each their own.

“Zeus is... around.” The Rainbow answered. “He comes and goes, as always.” Something was always grabbing their King's attention. Nymphs, mortals... the horses he kept in America. And that was just touching on it. “Right now, though,” A faraway look appeared on Iris' face as her eyes lost focus for a moment. It was her way of tapping into her ability as a messenger to locate anyone she needed to at any given moment.

It was quite a useful ability, but one she didn't always utilize fully since it left her somewhat vulnerable. If there was one thing she had had learned since the Titanomachy, it was to not leave oneself vulnerable for any extended period of time. Athena was no threat, however, so the titaness felt secure in searching the available energy signatures on Olympus for Zeus. The distant look disappeared and she finished her sentence, “He's in his palace.” Then she smiled again.

Pausing a moment, she realized that this was probably one of her more awkward encounters. She really had nothing in common with Wisdom other than the fact that they were both Greek. “So, what brings you back? Just a visit or think you'll stick for awhile?”

Well it wasn't like Athena to smile about much. She found it a little weird to smile so much as other people. Grumpy wasn't the word, but she definitely wasn't cheerful. "Thanks." And then there was a small smile. Just the barest of ones. She could be nice, and Iris had smiled at her, so why not? Ah she didn't mind being on Earth all that much. The mortal realm had coffee, and she really liked it.

"Gotcha. He's busy doing.. who knows what," Athena nodded her head knowingly. She wasn't surprised. Her father was rarely around when she needed him. Not that it was urgent or anything. And his attention was pretty fickle, it was true. As much as she loved her father, sometimes she really didn't get him. She waited patiently to see if Zeus was actually around.

"Brilliant. Should have gone there first, I guess. Don't know why I didn't." Just happened to stop by on a whim, she supposed. "I'm back to talk to Zeus. And well I got a little bored, which is odd. I guess I just thought it was time to come back for a while. I haven't decided whether I'm staying though. A couple of days at the least."

Iris nodded. Athena was a strange goddess... in Iris' opinion. She never took a husband... she had no children... she preferred to dwell among mortals.... Iris too had a home down there, hers in Milan, but that was more a vacation spot than somewhere she lingered for more than a week at a time. She just preferred Olympus. Even with its drama, it was a safe, beautiful place. The titaness felt secure in her place there.

“Do see him, though... your father, I mean. I'm sure he'll have things to discuss with you.” Seemed likely anyway. Zeus always seemed to have things on his mind, things Iris suspected he discussed with his wise daughter on a regular basis.

Then a thought struck her, “oh! Have you seen Nike yet?” If she recalled correctly, Athena had spent a bit of time with Victory in the years past and it stood to reason that she might be looking to do so again. “She's around, if you haven't. Still staying in the palace, as do her siblings. So if you go searching for Zeus, you'll probably find Nike too.”

Other people were strange to her. She didn't understand why people insisted on being in love or having children to feel complete. Athena was a truly independent woman. She didn't need a man for anything. Anything they could do, she could do much much better. Children were nice though. But she would never have any. Right now, even if she wanted those things, every man was probably scared she'd hurt them as soon as they flirted. To be fair, that was usually what happened.

"Of course, he's usually my only reason for being here." Sure, she didn't get along that well with most. It didn't bother her too much. Though there were other people she wanted to see as well. Not to mention she liked to make her opinion known. Zeus trusted her for a reason.

Her eyebrows raised, "Nike? No, not yet. You're the first person I've seen. Ah, well then I will have to go and see her when I'm done with my father. I'm glad she's here though. Is she well?" It wasn't like she totally didn't care.

“As far as I'm aware, she's doing just fine. Can't imagine why she wouldn't be.” Iris just shrugged and smiled. “Her being Victory and all that.”

Then she figured she should probably fill Athena in on the bit of gossip that might affect her in some way, Though, Athena wasn't really the type to indulge in gossip. So Iris would keep it short and sweet. “By the way,” she started, “on the topic of your father. Rumor is that he's in quite a tizzy over the state of affairs in Greece. You know, the economy, their handling of the antiquities...” She gestured a bit with her hand to show that it was an overall problem.

It wasn't exactly breaking news, either. The state of affairs in Greece was atrocious for a country that had such a splendorous history. “Just so your prepared, if you go see him.”

"I wouldn't expect any less from her," Athena agreed. She would have to go and check on her very soon.

She didn't care much about gossip that had to do with who was sleeping with whom, and things like that. She did care about what her father was thinking though. "Quite a tizzy hm? Well that sounds about right. I think if he wasn't, things might be worse off than I thought. It's not as if Greece is doing very well at the moment." Maybe she could go in and give him some advice. Or at least be a sounding board.

Athena nodded and gave another small smile. "Thank you. I'll try to put my guard up."

Iris nodded approvingly. She was pleased, overall, and felt it was polite to show it. It was, however, time to depart from Athena's company. The titaness had the nagging feeling that she was overstaying her welcome just a bit, it wasn't like she and Athena were exactly friends or anything, and there was the necessity of relaying information to Hera.

“Well,” she said and nodded again, clutching her planner to her chest with one hand. “I should probably get going. Hera doesn't like to be kept waiting.” Her wings fluttered a bit before she spoke again. “Welcome back, Athena.”

The Rainbow turned, stretched her wings and took to the skies of Olympus once again returning on her track for the grand palace of Zeus and Hera.
