"Cat boy?”

Mason Jarvis tried to comprehend what his best student and friend Noah Mayer just said. Who, at that moment, was looking at Mason with that all-too-adorable cheeky grin on his face whenever he was up to something. Which, wasn't something Mason would see in him very often, as he mostly interacted with Noah on an academic basis, even though their friendship (and Mason's crush on the gorgeous young man) was growing slowly but surely.

But - what Noah just told him – was a joke. It had to be. Either that or his friend was smoking something which was deemed illegal in this country.

But Noah didn't partake in illegal substances; nor did he tell jokes very well (which actually made them funnier, thus endearing himself to Mason even more). He was one of the most level-headed people Mason knew.

And here he was, sitting across from him at Java's, casually sipping his latte, and telling Mason, in all seriousness, yet with a little smile on his face -

That he and his boyfriend Luke found a cat boy.

And, not only did they find a cat boy, but this particular cat boy needed a home, and they wanted to give him to Mason.

The scholar's handsome face twisted with suppressed laughter. “Noah, you-“ then he couldn't help it – he did laugh. “Are – are you feeling alright? I think you've been working too hard, Noah. You need a break. Look – I'll give you an extension on your term project, how's that?”

Noah laughed then. “Thanks Mason, but I'm fine. I'll still take that extension though.” He took a sip of his latte, amusement in his pretty blue-grey eyes as he looked at Mason over his coffee cup. Nice to actually be sitting here relaxing at the coffee shop instead of working, Noah thought off-handedly.

“So – you say you have a cat - “ Mason began, trying to figure out what Noah was really up to.

“Cat boy.” Noah corrected him. “Or Neko boy, if you want to use the proper term. That's - "

"Japanese for cat. Yes, I know - I used to live in Tokyo, remember?" Mason said, unable to keep the amusement out of his voice. He knew Noah was just messing with him, but the man had such a sincere look on his face. He's some actor, Mason thought. Though he didn't mind, really – the way things had been going for him lately, Mason figured could use a good laugh. While his career was going very well, his personal life was.....well, not so good. His relationship with his boyfriend George, which was rocky from the start, came to a sad and abrupt end two weeks ago. Since then, Mason buried himself in his work to try forget, and get on with his life. And – he later admitted to himself – to see more of Noah.

“Look, I know it sounds like I’ve been watching too much anime, but I’m telling you, Mason. We have a cat boy. And he needs a home...so, Luke and I thought...”

“Wait – Noah, do know what you're saying?” Mason asked, his voice scaling up in disbelief, an incredulous look on his handsome face (and yet he could not wipe the smile off it). “You're talking about something that doesn't even exist, Noah. Something that – that's from the imagination of manga artists.”

"Yes, and I know it sounds crazy, but it's the truth, Mason - We have a cat boy, and he's living in our apartment.” Noah said, trying to get Mason to believe him. But how in the world do you convince somebody you have a creature that's not supposed to exist?

“Ah, yes, your apartment, another piece of fiction.” Mason said with a smirk on his face. This just kept getting better and better.

“Very funny.” Noah said when he really meant to say smart ass, but he was glad that Mason still had a sense of humor. He was so serious all the time. All he ever did was work; and when he did go home, he'd just work some more. It was obvious he was trying to bury himself in work to try to forget about George. But he needed to have some fun in his life, Noah thought; he needed to just let go. Noah invited Mason out with him and Luke a few times, but Noah got the impression he felt like a third wheel. He also thought about introducing him to a few of their single friends, but he didn't want to give Mason the impression he was trying to play matchmaker; He didn't want to embarrass the man. So, what to do?

Noah didn't know until the answer just showed up in front of his apartment building two weeks ago, and had been crashing at their place ever since: Eating their food, sharpening his claws on their sofa, and generally wreaking havoc in Luke and Noah's lives. Not the mention the cat boy's infatuation with Noah. Which, quite frankly, the man wouldn't have minded - not one bit - had it not been for Luke. But he knew the cat needed someone (or someones, perhaps, considering his amorous behavior), and it wasn't fair to him that he should be alone while Noah had Luke. Because, despite all the trouble he caused, and Noah's outward dislike towards him, Noah had a soft spot in his heart for the neko boy; he wanted to see him happy.

“So....does that mean you'll at least consider it?” Noah ventured hopefully.

Mason again stared at him in disbelief. “Noah -” he began, but he honestly was at a loss for words. Noah was serious! Mason searched his friend's face for an answer, but there was none – just Noah's incredibly hopeful, sincere expression.

“Look, just stop by our apartment after work and we'll show you. That way you can see this fictional apartment of ours as well as a real imaginary creature.”

Mason just stared at him dumbfounded, unable to answer. What kind of joke was this? But Noah wasn't joking, he really wasn't.

“Humor me.” Noah said finally.

Mason sighed. “Okay.” Mason looked at his watch. “I am officially off the clock. So, whenever you're ready - “

Noah finished the last of latte, stood up and picked up his jacket. Smiling at Mason, he said: “Let's go”

Can you guess who the cat boi is? ;D
