Electrical Storm
Characters: Everyone (post is info-only)
When: July 7, 2020, 3 PM (post is also applicable for the 17th and 22nd)
Location: Town-Wide
There's no warning for the storm. Those who can sense weather or electricity or impending storms won't feel it. It will surprise them as much as anyone else, leading to the possible theory it isn't natural. Shortly before 3 PM on July 7 (noon on July 17, 6:15 PM on July 22nd), the sky goes black. It's not the usual slow roll in of a thunderstorm, but it goes from mostly clear to completely overcast. The clouds don't look completely natural - much like those who were here for the fog might recall the fog wasn't completely natural. The rain starts first, greasy drops warmer than the ambient air, almost like being splashed with cooling oil from a deep fryer. They won't leave any real residue behind, though certain fabrics might show slight oozy purple reside where the drops hit that doesn't wash out well. The lightning is blue and jagged, cloud-to-ground in almost all cases. Those who see it strike anything - the ground, a house, a tree - might notice it doesn't behave like normal lightning. It won't spark or start a fire, but simply crackle around the object it hits, almost like a plasma globe. The storm lasts no more than 45 minutes on any storm day. Those caught in the rain itself with the rain actually striking their bare skin will be subjected to the power disruption. It does not begin immediately but within 2-4 hours after the storm, their powers will begin to malfunction. For some, it will be more noticeable than others. For those with abilities already subtle to begin with, they may not notice it at all. Disruptions include: accidental triggering, inability to trigger, lack of control once triggered, triggering more strongly than intended, triggering with an effect other than intended, inability to untrigger, or not triggering strong enough. For those with powers that are constant (as in, no need to trigger, it just exists), the ability will be in flux. It might be mostly normal for the duration, but be 'off' at varying points. The disruption will last at minimum 48 hours but can last as long as 3 weeks. (So yes, this may carry into game!August if people are hit by later storms). It will be quickly enough tied to the storm by the 9th because what else would it be? And rumors travel, so it's likely characters that weren't hit will have warnings about the future storms. Granted, they do roll in quick and can't be warned for by weather-sensitive people .... |
