Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Thread: Alicia and George
Who: Alicia Spinnet and George Weasley (with some shadowing from Fred, I'm sure!)
When: Monday, Mid-evening.
Where: The Spinnet home in Brighton, England and then the twins' shop back in wizarding London.
What: Alicia wasn't joking when she requested a rescue when she tried to sneak out and away. While her father wouldn't really lock her in her room or anything, considering she's nineteen, he still wouldn't be the easiest person to sneak by when he's listening to the wizarding wireless downstairs. At least, by herself anyway.
Rating: PG
Status: WIP - Incomplete

She had given it a fighting attempt. Had packed a small duffel and tried to sneak out through the front door before her Dad got home, but she wasn't expecting to run in to him. Saying she was going to visit some friends didn't seem to work since Richard Spinnet was quite an intelligent man. Then the argument broke out. It was the really a typical evening in the Spinnet house. Richard trying to explain that what he was doing was good for them both, and Alicia simply shaking her head and calling him a list of names under her breath.

She had finally taken the retreat to her room, slamming the door behind her. She needed to get out whether it was forever or just a few days. Maybe, by then, her father would stop trying to press all these things in her face. They weren't purebloods. They weren't part of the higher society that ruled wizarding London. They weren't. And they never would be. And he just never seemed to get it.

Alicia was sure he never would.

So she sat in her room, glancing at the clock hanging on her wall. She was hoping George, with Fred in tow, would show up sooner rather than later and take her back to London until things calmed down.

It was later rather than sooner, however, because the Weasley twins were prone to mix-ups. First, George had to convince Fred that Alicia Spinnet was serious about being rescued (otherwise, why would she have given them the address?), and then Fred had had to convince George that the proper way to rescue a girl did not involve turning her evil father into a crup.

And what was his obsession with turning people into crups lately, anyway?

George put up a valiant fight for his plan, largely because it involved a new spell powder he wanted to try. There was never any question of them not going, as Alicia had been a Chaser - and the Weasley twins protected the team. It helped that Alicia was a girl and had been on the Quidditch team. That put her in a coveted spot. She was, essentially, a sister-by-proxy. One whom it wouldn't be terribly incestuous to ask out, after the fact, if that turned out to be an option.

Not that George was thinking along those lines, of course. He was mostly doing it for the sheer fun of it. And midnight rescues were certainly fun. Sadly, they didn't have the option of pinching a charmed Muggle vehicle for the endeavor. Instead, they had to resort to brooms. There was also the problem of not knowing which room Alicia was in... so they ended up trying to be sneaky, staking out the place and peering into windows.

Alicia had settled on reading until her knights on broomsticks arrived. The book wasn't keeping her interest, thankfully, as she heard the very recognizable swooshing sound of people in flight. This, of course, only meant one thing to her: broomsticks. And there was only one reason why anyone would be outside of her house on broomsticks since Death Eaters didn't arrive on brooms.

Tossing the book to the side, ignoring the quiet thud it made as it hit the floor, Alicia pulled open her blinds. Scrambling with the window lock, she pushed the window out and open, peering out in to the cool night air. She had to be quiet just in case her Dad decided to be nosy and check on his daughter.

"George! Fred!" she called out in a loud whisper. She knew she had heard brooms. She knew she did. She wasn't going crazy. Unless she was and the idea of being rescued was something she had dreamed up over the past few nights.

Though why she would be subconsciously thinking about being heroically rescued by Fred and George was beyond her. The whole rescue scenario was usually a bit different and included a tall, white horse and a dashing prince in armor.

Pleased that they'd at least managed to get the right house, the twins immediately flew to Alicia's window, grinning like... well, grinning like the Weasley twins. "Hallo, Alicia!"

George looked around, as though disappointed. "Is this it? Hardly any bars, love. And no dragons or moats or nothing... Where's your dad? Do we need to transfigure him into something harmless-like?"

"Sorry. If I had known, I'd have let the dragons out from the basement." She gave a quick glance back to her closed door and then back to George with a shrug. "He's downstairs probably listening to the wireless or reading." She paused again, moving back away from the window to the door. Pressing her ear against it, she did a quick double check to make sure she was right.

The last thing she wanted to do was have him come up to try and talk things out with her and see her climbing out the window and on to a broom.

Grabbing her packed bag, she moved back over to the window and began climbing out, straddling the windowsill for a moment. She never realized just how high off the ground their second floor was.

"No need to turn him into anything unless he comes running."

"Think he will?" George asked hopefully, maneuvering his broom close to the window. They'd flipped a galleon earlier to see who got to be the night in shining armor type, actually pulling Alicia from her window and flying her home, and George had been the one to win the task. It was all right by him so long as he didn't have to be too dashing. Fred had filled him in on the appropriate things to say - charming things along the lines of We're here at your service, Milady! Prepared to fight for your honor and take you away from all this! and the like... but he'd forgotten them all. So Hallo, Alicia! would just have to suffice.

"Don't be daft, George!" Fred responded. He wasn't sure why his twin was so dead set on getting them brought up on magical assault charges - and transfiguring someone against their will was certainly against Ministry law.

George ignored his brother, holding one hand out to Alicia and gripping his broom tightly with the other to keep steady. Flying with two people on a broom was somewhat dodgy business, and neither of the twins had what anyone would call top-of-the-line models. "Come on, girl. You'd think you were scared of heights! You were a Chaser, now. Haven't gone soft on us, have you?"

"Taking off from the ground and sitting on a broom is much different than hopping from a window to an already in-flight broom, I think." And, really! It was!

Taking George's hand tightly on her own, she gave a silent count up to three and carefully maneuvered herself onto the back of George's broom. She wrapped her arms tight around him for a moment as she collected herself and balance. She'd never been on a broom with another person before, so it was all new to her.

"Well, then. That wasn't so bad." Careful to not cause them both to topple to the side, Alicia leaned over a bit to close her window back. Sitting back up, straight, she grinned. "Fairly easy rescue, then, yes?"

They dipped a bit, but George managed to keep the broom relatively steady. After she'd closed the window, he started to move away from the house - somewhat erratically, as he wasn't accustomed to the extra weight. "Easy as cake!"

Fred stayed to execute part two of their brilliant plan, once George and Alicia were out of sight - placing a basket with a juvenile tabby cat in it on the front step, a note tied to the handle reading as follows:

The cat in this basket is your daughter, Alicia - Because you wronged our family, we have cursed her to remain a cat until she has received a kiss from her true love.

JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED!

It had been George's idea, as his search for a loophole to the Marriage Law had led him to researching old arcane Marital Curses and the like. For some reason, he thought True Love curses were absolutely hilarious. Fred, unsurprisingly, had agreed - largely because he thought two adult wizards trying to get a common pussycat to turn back into their daughter was hilarious.

Tightening her grip against George as they flew a good distance from her house, she peered back down and then back up to George. "What's your brother doing?" Because leaving behind one Weasley twin was just as bad as leaving behind two.

"He's not really going to turn my Dad into anything, right?" Because, really, she didn't want to do anything too awful to her Dad. This would be bad enough in the end.

"Or cause the house to try and attack him from the inside out?"

"Oh... ah... nothing," George said, not very reassuringly. "He won't turn your dad into anything, or make the house attack. Just leaving a note to throw them off our trail, that's all."

He pulled high, then, going up over the clouds so that they couldn't be seen by any Muggle residences. Unsurprisingly, George was not the safest flyer. He was steady on a broom, certainly - both of the twins were - and he was strong enough to compensate for the added weight (though in retrospect, he should have let Fred take Alicia, as the other brother was technically surer in the air than he was), but George couldn't help his habit, and his habit was to swerve and weave. An excellent trait during a quidditch game, but not so great for the stomachs of passengers.

"Hope you don't mind animals, Alicia! We got a good lot of 'em at the shop!"

"You mean other than you and Fred?" she teased, tightening her grip just a bit more. Luckily for George, and probably herself, she was still use to swerves and weaves having been a Chaser. She had missed it and was glad it wasn't a boring, to the book broom ride.

"I'll be fine. I'm hiding under the bed, right? That's the safest place to hide. Unless they manage to find me." She chuckled, shaking her head.

"Then I might have to crawl into bed with Fred." She was still joking, of course and would have given George a nudge in the side if she wasn't already holding on to him.

George laughed heartily at that, although he was mostly hoping that Fred would catch them up. He couldn't remember if he was just supposed to straight to the shop or not... he assumed so, and headed in that direction... but he would have felt a great deal more confident if his twin were still in sight.

Ah, well.

"I wouldn't!" He raised his voice to compensate for the wind. "The bugger snores something awful!"

"That's what silencing charms are for!" she responded with a slightly raised voice as well. It was true after all. She used them quite often most of the time.

She was quiet for a few minutes, since trying to talk in the midst of the flight was almost pointless. Leaning in close so she wouldn't have to yell or strain her voice, she asked "Are we almost there?"

At least it wasn't raining, which she had thought after the fact and after the whole rescue had gone down.

"Shop's in London, love!" George responded, still rather loud in volume. "When you see London under us, we're almost there!"

He stayed quieted for most of the flight, however, as he was concentrating on staying in the air and not getting turned about. It'd been a while since he'd flown the route proper, as he and Fred had taken to Apparating everywhere once they'd got their licenses.

When he thought they'd gone far enough, he chanced a very dramatic dive.

The building in Diagon Alley was small, but unmistakable once they were close enough to differentiate it from the others - it was very brightly colored yellow, at the moment, with a red and orange awning.
