I apologise right away if this seems strange and slightly inappropriate, but I feel it's important for me, as Lavender's mother, to start some sort of communication with her future husband. My name is Isabella Brown and though I wish we could meet face-to-face rather than through the post, I suppose this will suffice for now. Let me get on with this by saying that I would appreciate it if you didn't mention to Lavender that I have written to you. It will only upset her and she's feeling quite down over this arranged marriage business as it is.
Now to the reason I'm writing. As I'm sure you are very well aware, this is a difficult position to put us, the parents, in. While I would rather Lavender be happy and marry who she sees fit, I know better than to think this marriage law will go away before the time comes when the two of you will be forced to marry. Lavender doesn't mention this very often, but she has a few relatives who happen to be former Slytherin students and to be quite honest, I wasn't too shocked when she told us that she would have to marry a young man who was from that House. Slytherins have always had a bad reputation, but I assure you that I do not think badly of you based on that fact.
The opportunity for Lavender to marry someone who is also from a Pure bloodline is actually quite exciting. Her father doesn't necessarily agree with my thoughts on this matter and that is the main reason I don't want you to mention this letter to my daughter. Basically, I think this is an opportunity for the two of you to grow as individuals. I am sure that you hold Lavender's House against her, but that is hardly as important as making sure that bloodlines remain intact. I ask that you do not squander this chance for my daughter and that you do everything in your power to win her over.
Thank you for your time. If you are ever in need of anything, do not hesitate to write to me, though I ask that you ward it directly to me.
