Who: Rogue (open)
When: Saturday
Where: Her bedroom, at the mansion
What: Thinking
Status: in progress
Rating: PG

She never thought that she could be lonely while surrounded with people, but oddly enough, she did.  Sure, her skin usually kept people at bay, hindering any relationship she could possibly have, but conversation had always been enough to supply her with those social needs.  Now, however, it just wasn't the same.

Lying in her room, on her quilted bedspread that Jubilee had given her for a 'Happy Tuesday' present, she sighed deeply.  Ever since she'd graduated, she'd been given the option to live on her own but, instead she'd chosen to stay and room with Kitty and Jubes; besides Logan, they were the only two people who didn't care at all that she could suck their powers dry with the slightest touch.  Even Bobby cringed occasionally if he saw her without any gloves or scarves.  He would hunch his shoulders slightly, or frown carefully as he oh so casually pulled his sweater down so his hand was covered before hugging her.  Even in a house full of mutants, she was misunderstood.

Sighing again, she flipped around on her bed, placing her chin on her pillow, cocking an ear toward the open window.  She could hear Kitty and Piotr's voices from the garage below; they were going shopping and while she'd been invited, she didn't want to be the third wheel.  Everyone could see the blossoming romance between them, and far be it from her to be the buzz kill; though, to be fair, she always thought that she would be a good catalyst for a relationship.  After all, people just had to take one look at her and remind themselves how horrible it would be to never touch another.  It would always invariably lead to more hugs or touches than they would've exhibited if they hadn't seen her.  "Humbug," she said out loud, the sound of her voice surprising her.

Sitting up suddenly, she frowned.  There was no point in being all self-pitying.  There were many other people in this mansion; someone was bound to be just hanging around.  She needed to cheer up.

Of all the people who could possibly cheer another up, Kevin was likely the last person in the universe that would be qualified for such a job. He had never even spoken much to Rogue before, but he'd known all about her. Everyone did. A part of Kevin wondered if he should talk to her. In fact, she would probably be the only one who could understand what he was going through, but it still wasn't the same. Despite the fact that she was beautiful and had plenty of friends of her own to talk to, he was certain that she would want nothing to do with a monster like Kevin.

It didn't stop him from thinking about her though. He knew that she was miles above him. Kevin couldn't even look at her without his face turning red, let alone think about her. It was useless to even consider anyway. With most organisms, if Kevin touched them, they would wither and die within moments, but if he touched Rogue, a situation that wouldn't and couldn't ever happen, not only would she die, but her powers would cause him to disintegrate as well. A twisted Romeo and Juliet scenario that gave Kevin shivers.

This was often the dark road that his thoughts turned onto though. He couldn't help it. He was so constantly aware of his powers, of his limitations in everything, from his inability to wear normal clothing to being unable to eat a simple sandwich, that it was all he could think about. Kevin saw death everywhere. He'd seen so many things die from his touch that it was all he could picture now. Everything he looked at, he saw two images of. One was of the normal, real picture and the other was the dead, ashes of it's former self. He couldn't help it. He was cursed and a cursed man was doomed from birth to death.

Still, there was nothing he could do about it. There was no permanent cure yet to save him and the one that was out there had horrible side effects that not even Kevin was willing to risk. Though he had very few friends, Emma was beginning to see that sitting alone in his room when he didn't have class was beginning to drive him crazy and had suggested he start getting out more. Unfortunately, the metal shop was being used right now so he couldn't be there, which left him very little preferable choices.

Instead, he was sitting outside, covered from neck to toe in his synthetic clothing and watching normal mutants enjoy themselves. It was incredibly depressing, but that's what he got for listening to his advisor. When Kevin saw Rogue coming his way, her beautiful skin turning to ash before his eyes, Kevin quickly shifted on the stairs in front of the school, moving out of her way and trying to be as obsolete as possible.

Rogue would've walked right past Kevin, if it wasn't for the sudden movement that she caught out of the side of her eye. After having trained with Logan for so long, her body had become naturally attuned to anything happening around her. Just another way I'm different from normal people, she thought ruefully to herself.

She stood in front of him and smiled. They had not spoken very much before, and she suddenly wondered why. After all, they both had similar mutations and looking at him, covered head to toe in clothing reminded her of her own typical outfit of jeans, long sleeve shirt, gloves and scarf. "Hey there Kevin," she said, her smile now reaching her eyes. "Where you off to today?" Just saying those words made her feel bad because she knew that if her friends had been around, she probably would've ignored him. I need to grow up, she thought.

It took a few long moments before Kevin realized that it was him that Rogue was speaking to. He'd been trying so hard to stay out of her way, that he hadn't even realized she had stopped in front of him. Honestly, he couldn't even recall a time that she had directly addressed him, let alone seemed interested in what was actually doing.

"Hey, Rogue," he responded, looking up at her from his place on the stairs. It only took the few seconds of watching her skin wither before he looked away, doing his best to avoid her eyes without seeming rude. "Nowhere today. Ms. Frost thinks I need to get out more. This is the best I can do," he said with a shrug.

She smiled at him, and tried not to tilt her head in sympathy. In a house full of mutants, there were still specific sects that seemed to never mix. There were the mutants who could pass as norms and those that couldn't. Although Kevin looked fairly normal, there were just certain traits of his that she could see hindering any type of social interaction.

"And do you always do what Ms.Frost says," she jokingly said, putting an arm on the banister. "You know, I hear she's crazy but I never spend time with her, so I don't know for sure."

"No. Not usually," Kevin shrugged, wondering if he should bother defending the icy telepath. "She's my advisor, is all. I don't know about her being crazy though. She can be mean, but it usually has some good behind it." It was hard to shrug Emma off or listen to others insult her, even though it happened constantly. Frost had been there for him when no one else was. When the FBI wanted to arrest him for his father's death, Emma had been the only one to protect him.

"She's not bad. You just have to get to know her, I guess."

"Well, I guess that's what could be said about all of us, huh? At first glance, we're all just a little crazy but with time," she trailed off, her eyes looking around the living room. It was really quite interesting to see the distinct people, lounging around the school. Furrowing her brow, she turned back to Kevin. "Well, let's pretend Frosty is right, and you need to get out and do something. Want some company? We could go raid the kitchen, find some place out in the field to eat..." She had no idea what prompted her to ask him out with her and if she had had otherp lans, she probably wouldn't have. However, for some reason, she suddenly felt a sort of kinship towards him, and didn't want this link to fade. How odd, she thought to herself.
