She never thought that she could be lonely while surrounded with people, but oddly enough, she did. Sure, her skin usually kept people at bay, hindering any relationship she could possibly have, but conversation had always been enough to supply her with those social needs. Now, however, it just wasn't the same.
Lying in her room, on her quilted bedspread that Jubilee had given her for a 'Happy Tuesday' present, she sighed deeply. Ever since she'd graduated, she'd been given the option to live on her own but, instead she'd chosen to stay and room with Kitty and Jubes; besides Logan, they were the only two people who didn't care at all that she could suck their powers dry with the slightest touch. Even Bobby cringed occasionally if he saw her without any gloves or scarves. He would hunch his shoulders slightly, or frown carefully as he oh so casually pulled his sweater down so his hand was covered before hugging her. Even in a house full of mutants, she was misunderstood.
Sighing again, she flipped around on her bed, placing her chin on her pillow, cocking an ear toward the open window. She could hear Kitty and Piotr's voices from the garage below; they were going shopping and while she'd been invited, she didn't want to be the third wheel. Everyone could see the blossoming romance between them, and far be it from her to be the buzz kill; though, to be fair, she always thought that she would be a good catalyst for a relationship. After all, people just had to take one look at her and remind themselves how horrible it would be to never touch another. It would always invariably lead to more hugs or touches than they would've exhibited if they hadn't seen her. "Humbug," she said out loud, the sound of her voice surprising her.
Sitting up suddenly, she frowned. There was no point in being all self-pitying. There were many other people in this mansion; someone was bound to be just hanging around. She needed to cheer up.
