A new hire within Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was announced at the annual start-of-school feast. Rodolphus Lestrange, known Death Eater and brother of Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher Rabastan Lestrange, has joined the Hogwarts Staff as the new History of Magic teacher replacing the deceased Professor Binns. The Ministry of Magic wanted to irradiate all half-breeds and non-living beings from positions of power to 'ensure the well-being of our children' said Ministry spokesperson Bellatrix Lestrange.

Today was announced as the last day for all current magical British citizens to register with the Ministry of Magic for their Identification Card. Moving forward for those citizens who have not registered, they will be given another month to show up in person at the Ministry of Magic, but charged a fine for not responding to the initial call. September 1st, 1997 marks the first day that all magical establishments will start to require identification at entry. Several magical establishments have been very outspoken about this new law and claim they will still offer services even to those who are unregistered. These establishments include Gringot's Wizarding Bank, St. Mungo's Hospital, The Hog's Head and Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.

A new law presented by the Head of the DMLE, Bellatrix Lestrange, was passed by the Wizengamot today. The new law states that all marriages of a witch or wizard to a Muggle, half-breed, or non-magical creature, including but not limited to werewolves, veelas, giants, and goblins, are banned. The Ministry is in the process of getting all such marriages that currently exist within the English Ministry of Magic dissolved. Any couples that fall under such a classification will receive notice within thirty days, and any appeals will be heard by the Wizengamot.
