Date and Time: April 24, 2008 - early evening
Characters: Charlie Weasley, Lavender Brown
Location: Leaky Cauldron, London
Private/Public: Private
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: TBA
Summary: Charlie meets Lavender for an omg!date
Completion: InComplete

Wearing his dragon-skin jacket and feeling like he spent too much time worrying over what to wear and what his bloody hair looked like, Charlie walked through the doors to the Leaky Cauldron, hoping he wasn't too late. He cursed himself mentally, seeing that Lavender was already waiting for him.

Dolt. Keep her bloody waiting for you, sure. That's a great impression to give. Idiot.

Charlie walked up to where she was sitting at the bar and tapped her on the shoulder since she was looking the other way.

"Hey. I hope you weren't waiting long," he said, giving the pretty brunette a sheepish grin.

Eeep. What had she agreed to? Lavender was nervous. Only nervous didn’t seem to be a big enough word to encompass what she was feeling at the moment. She hated all of her clothes, her hair wouldn’t lie right, and, she was pretty sure that her hands were shaking a little. Excellent. She felt like she was fifteen, only when she was fifteen she was good at this. Lavender blamed Mark. She hadn’t been on a date since Mark. That made it –oh about four years since she’d been on a first date. Four years. She was four years out of practice. Eeep seemed an appropriate reaction at the moment. Ah, hell. It was too late to cancel –not that she really wanted to cancel anyway. She wanted to go out with Charlie. Okay Lav, deep breath. She chose a black skirt and burgundy blouse, allowing her hair to curl about her shoulders because she couldn’t get it to do anything else, took a deep breath and strapped her wand into its holster.

The Leaky wasn’t far. Lavender walked in the dimming light, silently pleased with herself for being on time for once instead of running late as usual. In fact, she was so not late, that she had managed to arrive before Charlie did. Taking a seat at the bar to wait, Lavender looked around the bar, contenting herself with people watching. A tap on her shoulder got her attention, and she spun to find a grinning Charlie standing beside her. “Charlie,” Lavender smiled widely. “No, I haven’t been waiting long at all. How are you?”

"Good, good. I'm...good," Charlie replied, his ears feeling hot as he stammered. Motioning to a free booth, he suggested that they find a seat. "I don't know about you but I've never liked sitting at the bar - too much commotion," Charlie reasoned and held out his hand to help the petite witch down from the high bar stool.

"You look really nice...erm, lovely, by the way," he told Lavender, and in truth she did. Having used to seeing her in Healer robes, Charlie had almost expected her to meet him in them. It was very different seeing her dressed in other clothing and he realized just how feminine Lavender was.

"Er - have you eaten? If so, I hope you don't mind but I'm ravenous. Food at the reserve isn't anything to write home about and even the cuisine here seems gourmet compared to what our camp cook throws in the cauldron," Charlie told Lavender in a rush of words.

“Thank you,” Lavender smiled as she accepted his hand down. “Bar stools are not really made for those of us with vertical limitations.” She grabbed her cloak and her purse, giving his hand a slight squeeze of thanks and holding it rather longer than necessary as they made their way to the free booth.

She felt her ears flush happily when he complimented her, and hoped that her hair hid it. “Thank you. You look rather nice yourself,” she added taking note of his hair, which was pleasantly tousled, his dragon skin jacket that stretched nicely around his broad shoulders… and decided that she should stop eyeing him like that.

“I haven’t, and I’m half starved; only I don’t have anyone else to blame it on…” she perused the menu for a moment, before looking back up at Charlie. “Well, since you’re such a connoisseur of the food here, what’s good?”

“How are things at the reserve? Aside from the cooking. Did you get those nests you were hoping for?” Lavender asked curiously.

He nearly had to carry her down off the bar stool she was so short. Charlie wasn't as tall as the rest of his other Weasley brothers, but he was no small-fry (even though Percy, who towered above him, liked to tease that he was). "No, they aren't I'm afraid. I just tend to get my feet caught up under them and fall off. Not very graceful," he explained with a self-deprecating grin.

"Well I try my best to clean up," Charlie said off handedly. Being heavily freckled and covered in more scars and burns than his brothers, Charlie didn't feel like he had much to offer in the looks department. He always figured if he looked more like Bill or - gods yes even Percy - he probably wouldn't still be dating at his age and have settled down by now. Then there was that part of him that believed if a witch didn't want him based on what he looked like - he didn't really want to be with that person for the rest of his life anyhow.

Getting settled in their booth, Charlie smiled across the table at Lavender and noticed again how attractive her smile was. He had thought so when he had met her at Ginny and Luna's party a few months ago. Gods was it only a few months??

"Depends on what you're in the mood for. Tom does well enough with the fish and chips, and they do serve a very good Shepherd's pie. I think I might actually go for the pie myself. Not as good as what my mum makes, but it's close enough," Charlie said with a grin and a shrug.

Giving her a look of surprise, Charlie stuttered for a minute, rubbing the back of his neck.

"We did, actually! Three, two of which we're pretty confident will hatch at least one. The one nest is from a new mother and new mothers can go wrong. I've seen it before," Charlie said, his voice a bit soft at the end. "I'm surprised you remembered. I mean, you being a Healer and doing much more important things."

Oh that grin was cute. “Well, I’ve been fortunate enough to have a handsome man help me down, so I don’t fall myself.” Lavender lifted a foot, and said conspiratorially, “Heels can be murder.” She’d been known from time to time to get one stuck in the rungs barstools, and had taken a spill or two herself. Ah, well, she’d never really claimed to be graceful, though she tried to be.

She looked him over again, giving him a slight smirk and a wink. “I think you clean up quite nicely.” She had scars of her own, too many to really mind them in anyone else. They were marks from his work, proof of his passion, his love for his job. Lavender would never hold that against him. And that slightly shy expression on his face was … endearing, adorable.

Lavender gnawed on her lower lip out of habit, and smiled around it, sweeping her hair back around her scar. She should really stop doing that. It wasn’t like he hadn’t seen it before anyway. “Hmmm… Shepherd’s pie sounds kind of good this evening…”

Charlie was obviously surprised by her question, and Lavender couldn’t help the slight giggle that bubbled up at his flustered expression. “Oh that’s excellent, that you got the nests. Ooo, and potential adorable hatchlings for you to admire. I’ll still have to take your word on that one.” She paused, and smiled with a slight shake of her head. “Of course I remembered. You sounded so … passionate about it. Besides, I told you that I was curious about dragons. I’d like to know more about what you do.”
