Daphne dressed carefully after rifling through everything Marcus bought her several weeks ago in the Muggle shop. She liked the skirt, even if it showed a bit more skin than she was strictly accustomed to. Daphne pinned her hair back, keeping it loose.

After refreshing her makeup charms, Daphne checked the clock. It was time for her potion, but tonight she wasn’t taking it. Getty and Linc had gone off to celebrate Valentine’s Day and Daphne refused to be locked away, alone, for yet another “holiday”.

So, once she was finished, Daphne left the Manor and Disapparated for an alley outside of the restaurant Marcus had taken her to on her first trip to Muggle London. She pressed her back against the wall, listening to the muffled conversations of the people walking by. Her heart raced, palms slicked with sweat.

“I can do this.” Daphne told herself sternly. “You’re a goddamn adult, Daphne Nicolette. No one here is out for you. No one here knows you. Move. Move, damn it.”

Her little pep talk did some good. Daphne managed to move a whole metre toward the alley’s opening. Daphne laughed at herself. “Gods above, you are the silliest witch to ever crawl the earth.” But her heart beat faster still.

Daphne managed to move another metre and now stood perched on the corner of the wall. She glanced about, exhaling slowly when she realized no one was looking at her. Cautiously, Daphne put her hands back into her pockets and pushed off from the wall. The bustling crowd swallowed her immediately.

Breathe. Just breathe. No one has a wand. No one knows your face. Breathe.

She managed to move through the crowd, keeping her head slightly bent and hands clenched into fists in her pockets. If she made it one city block on her own, she could call her evening a success. Daphne stopped at the street with the crowd, peering around as much as she could. She only moved to cross in front of the loud, smelly automobiles when the others did.

Halfway. I can do this on my own.

Daphne’s heart pounded in her chest, her entire body aching with the heightened blood pressure. Fear reached up, creating an icy ball in the pit of her stomach. The heightened state of irrational terror both irritated and frightened her. For so long there was nothing she could do. Penelope’s potion eased the passage, but Daphne wanted to do this alone.

She resisted the urge to scream with joy as Daphne hit the marker of a building she’d set up for herself. She made it. One whole city block all by herself. A grin crossed her face, marred slightly by the fear still biting at her innards.

Catching sight of a pub, Daphne decided she would step inside to warm up and just…do something else to celebrate, she moved through the crowd. Her heart still beat too rapidly, but she’d done it and by the gods in heaven, she could do more.

Stepping inside, Daphne shrugged out of her coat and glanced about. The place was clean, filled with mahogany tables and murmuring voices. She located an empty corner of the otherwise busy bar and moved toward it, sliding onto a barstool.

“I did it.” Daphne exhaled slowly again. “I actually did it.”

Pansy had been out shopping, trying to avoid any annoying muggles, but she'd gone to her favourite shop, picking up some vintage lingerie - just for fun of course, when she was feeling a bit peckish.

Spotting a pub she walked in and turned her nose up every now and then but the place wasn't that bad and ..... oh, she saw a friend. Daphne was in an empty corner and Pansy sidled up beside her. "Well hello there."

Daphne was so lost in her thoughts, proud to have accomplished one little triumph all by herself that the appearance of someone beside her and the familiar voice made her jump. Daphne clutched at her chest with one hand, immediately recognizing Pansy. Laughing at herself, Daphne leaned over and embraced her friend.

"Pansy!" Daphne kissed both of her cheeks quickly. "You scared the life out of me. What are you doing here?"

Pansy was more than slightly surprised to see Daphne in the pub, not to mention she jumped when Daphne did. "I didn't know I was such a sight kitten." She laughed along with Daphne after they both regained their composure.

Pansy kissed Daphne's cheeks in kind and sat down next to her friend, setting her bags down. "I was in town doing a bit of shopping and needed a drink." She tossed her long dark locks over her shoulder and ordered a glass of wine when a waiter drew near. "Did you order pet? Get whatever you like, my treat."

Daphne giggled a little hysterically when Pansy jumped as well, though she was quick to cut in. "No! You look fabulous as always, pet! I was just lost in my own head!"

"Did you get anything interesting?" Daphne asked, leaning as though to peek into her bags. She pulled up the sleeves of her cashmere sweater, looking to the bartender that was currently drooling over the pair of them.

"Anything I like?" Daphne smiled sweetly. "Does this make you my Valentine, pet?" She turned to the bartender. "Something decidedly sinful and chock full of alcohol, please."

"Mmmm, I thought as much - couldn't be that I didn't look anything but perfect." Pansy winked at her friend and opened up one of the bags she had her things in.

"Well, just a few pretty vintage knickers." She held up the teddy and saw a couple men at the bar looking over. If they weren't muggles she would've thrown them a wink - instead she just turned back to Daphne to see if she liked before the waiter was eyeing them like a hungry wolf.

"Yes pet, anything.... and yes. I think it would be fun for us to be Valentines! Seeing as how it was very fortuitous that we've run into each other like this." Pansy touched Daphne's nose lightly with her finger. "I think it was fate luv. Go on and order something nice."

Daphne rolled her eyes playfully. "Of course, darling."

Looking at the sensual, vintage piece Pansy held up, Daphne clapped her hands, cooing appreciatively. "Oh, isn't that beautiful. I love the colour!" Daphne spared no glance to the patrons staring avidly at the two dark-haired beauties fawning over underwear.

"Oh, I couldn't think of a better Valentine to have, pet." Daphne scrunched her nose up with a broad grin when Pansy tapped it. She stopped to think and shrugged. "Surprise me, darling." Daphne tossed a wink to the bartender, whom stuttered a bit.

"How is your shop doing, pet? I keep meaning to stop by but with everything has been so insane lately!"

Pansy scrunched up her nose in a smile, playfully poking out her tongue before shimmying slightly with the sexy lingerie pressed against her. "I couldn't not get it, such a lovely colour... and the lace." She pulled it away and glanced at it once more before she folded it and nestled the garment back into its tissue.

"Well, we're both lucky to have such an attractive Valentine. I'll bet many people couldn't boast as much." With a wave of her hand, she ordered herself a martini - dirty with two olives.

"The shop is doing so well, I can hardly tear myself away love. So I know what you mean... but we simply must get together again. The auction didn't pan out so maybe in a month when I have more time to prepare and people part with their 'precious' possessions." She rolled her eyes slightly and licked her lips when the waiter brought their drinks, teasing him slightly. "And your business is doing well too pet?"

"Its lovely." Daphne waggled her brows. "Hopefully you can model it and that sexy little shimmy for someone soon. Any fish on the line, pet?"

Daphne smirked widely. "We may both boast that we've the most devastatingly gorgeous Valentines on the surface of the earth. Though there may not be marriage and wild sex in our cards!"

The bartender brought over Pansy's drink and handed Daphne something pink in a delicate glass. "A Cosmopolitan."

"Merci," Daphne replied, before turning her back on him to concentrate on Pansy and her success. "It sounds as though you are a brilliant success already!" Daphne lifted her glass. "To successful women who can look the world dead in the eye and never tremble."

She sipped at the tart drink, murmuring in appreciation. "I am doing quite well, actually. I managed to appease a customer who told all his friends I was the woman to see. It's been remarkable what word of mouth can do."

Lowering her voice, Daphne leaned closer. "Have you heard about Lynus?"

"Oh, we'll see... as soon as I put the bait out, let's hope they'll be biting, literally." Pansy winked and laughed naughtily. "Who knows if there will be wild sex in our cards... night is still young." Glancing around the pub, she grimaced and turned back to Daphne. "I think we may have to go somewhere else though, or else end up in bed with each other."

The waiter brought their drinks at just the right moment - overhearing what Pansy had said and turning as pink as the Cosmopolitan he'd given to Daphne. "Yes, to us!" Pansy raised her martini and clinked glasses with Daphne, pulling an olive daintily off the little stick with her teeth after taking a sip.

"Never underestimate word of mouth... like I said, mine is my most useful tool - other people's mouths are bread and butter for shop owners. People talk, good or bad, they still talk." She stirred her drink with stick, one olive still left and leaned back in her seat before Daphne leaned in.

"Lynus... your brother? I've heard many things about him... but not recently."

"Happy hunting!" Daphne giggled again. "Or is that fishing?" She copied her friend, glancing at the patrons in the pub and sighing in dismay. None of them looked particularly worthy of either witch's time.

At Pansy's comment, Daphne chortled, nearly choking on her drink. The waiter looked ready to burst at that mental image. Daphne winked outrageously. "Well, pet, at least we have one another as an alternative. If no one measures up, we can console each other quite nicely, I think."

Oh her friend was a terrible flirt and Daphne loved every second of it. Relaxing, mainly because if anything untoward did arise Pansy could hand anyone his arse on a silver platter, Daphne leaned back against the chair, uncrossing her legs to cross them at the knee.

"That is very true, my friend. I've had a significant increase in profits lately."

"He's missing," Daphne remarked of Lynus. "The French are searching for him now, but rumour has it that he went mad. They are working on that angle." Daphne glanced at her friend, sipping her drink. "Isn't that interesting?"
