OWL: My Dear...
Date and Time: February 5, 2008 - early morning
Characters: Draco Malfoy, Daphne Greengrass
Location: The skies over England and France
Private/Public: Private
Rating: G
Warnings: Scheming
Summary: Draco owls Daphne regarding the note she left him
Completion: Complete

He had arrived back at Malfoy Manor much later than he had anticipated, but the business done over the past couple of days would further the family's hold over certain areas of England. Draco was pleased, and a constant smirk played upon his lips even though his shoulders ached and there was a hex that he had taken to the arm which was still healing.

As soon as he went into his office, one of his assistants came in carrying the post that had arrived while he was gone. Draco flipped through it all, and stopped when he came across the note in Daphne's handwriting. He opened it up, his eyes scanning over the contents.

Bugger

Draco was alone again, and he had no one around to order why he hadn't received Daphne's note earlier. That would be remedied. In the meantime, he quickly scrawled a letter back to the witch to be sent out immediately.

Daphne,

I am most distressed to hear that your brother has gone missing. I do hope that all will be sorted out for your dear sister's sake.

My apologies for not responding sooner. It seems my personal secretary needs another lesson in what correspondence is urgent and what isn't. I shall recitfy that.

Send for me if you need me, though I do suggest my presence in France may not be the wisest course of action. I assume you have also let Marcus be aware of this recent event, for I know he will be most concerned.

Hurry back my dear.

Yours,
Draco

While Daphne tutored the children in Russian - something her brother would have never allowed - Daphne paced the drawing room. Her voice echoed the words the children were bid to repeat, making her smile as Lionel flubbed a pronunciation and made his sister giggle.

"Madame Greengrass, a letter for you." The butler stood at the doorway, smiling briefly at Anne's emancipated children.

"Thank you, Oscar." Daphne took the letter, immediately recognizing Draco's fine hand. "Children, go tell Getty and Linc that Tante said you may have sweets."

Lionel and Nicole bolted for the door, chattering amicably in French. Daphne shook her head, wondering how long their cheerful natures were squashed by her overbearing brother. Oscar bowed quickly and left Daphne alone to read Draco's note.

Pleased that he was there for her in spirit if not body, Daphne crossed to the writing desk and penned a response to be sent off with the next owl.

Draco,

Thank you for your letter and your concern. Unfortunately nothing has been found of Lynus' whereabouts, save that he visited England last week. The trail there turns cold and all Lynus' contacts in France and England give distressing tales of my brother's mental state at the time of his disappearance. I fear for him most gravely.

You have no need to apologize, dearest, but I appreciate your thoughts are with my family and I during this time.

My sister has agreed that my presence here has changed nothing, to my dismay. Though I wish to stay, my shop cannot be run by another and I am needed at home. She understands this and though I must be ready to be at her side within a moment's notice, she is gently pushing me toward home.

Yes, I have let Marcus know what has transpired, but I have heard nothing from him yet. I shall be home this evening, darling, and I do wish for your comfort and counsel.

Affectionately yours,
Daphne
