RP: Strange being back
Date: January 1, 2008
Characters: Pansy Parkinson, Any (contact Katy if you want in)
Location: Diagon Alley, Knockturn Alley, Parkinson & Burkes
Private/Public: Semi-Public
Rating: PG
Warnings: Friendly bitchiness
Summary: Pansy arrives back in London and meets up with someone
Completion: Complete

Pansy arrived back in London early that morning. She had a small flat and had taken the floo in and unpacking the small amount of possessions she brought with her back from Austria. Her father was being cranky and beligerent while she was there and Pansy took it as a hint that she should go back to London. The store's restoration had been completed of course, she just wanted to make sure her father would be okay on his own. And if he was being grouchy, it was a good sign.

She wouldn't admit it if she was asked, but Pansy missed her Slytherin connections, her 'friends' if you will. She would have contacted everyone before she arrived, but in her true form, Pansy certainly liked to take everyone by surprise. Not to mention she hadn't contacted anyone for years. Since her mother died, she took on a role to take care of her father. That was short-lived as she had to go off and play apprentice at Borgin & Burkes. It needed an overhaul to be sure, but Pansy was able to complete everything while staying in Austria, returning there after her apprenticeship had been completed.

So, when the changes she wanted were made, she got an owl and now, she was back. Pansy turned her nose up at some of the filthy stores that lined Knockturn Alley. "Honestly, where is the class? Must we be considered filthy as well as evil?" She tsked as she unlocked the door to her shop, seeing everything done and the whole place smelling of fresh paint, wood stain and everything was much classier - an upscale antiquities and relics shop.

It was still early so she wanted to nab a coffee before actually opening the shop. So she strolled down Diagon Alley, again turning her pug-nose up at several sights before reaching Honeydukes. With coffee in hand and paying quickly, she took her coffee spiked with cinnamon and chocolate and walked down the street again. Though, she didn't expect to hear a familiar voice, even though she knew it was bound to happen.

Daphne had been trying to get back to her shop all morning, but everything was slightly skewed. Her head ached, even with the concoction Linc had fed her to ward off the hangover. Three bottles of wine and Russian opera was not her preferred way to ring in the New Year, but her anxiety ensured that's exactly what she did.

Walking toward the shop with Getty in tow, Daphne fought the urge to panic. Every time she stepped into her shop, she had a massive anxiety attack, even Penelope's potion could do little to st--

"Good gods above."

Daphne stopped dead in the street, staring at the familiar form of a woman she'd not seen in years. Excitement overrode the hangover and the anxiety and Daphne called out in a sardonic tone.

"Well, that's a face I never thought I'd see again." She grinned widely when Pansy turned. "Hello, Pansy."

Pansy was mid-sip when she heard her name was called. She turned slowly with a wide grin on her face. Daphne. "It's got nothing to do with the gods luv." Pansy tossed her long hair over her shoulder and sauntered over to where Daphne was standing with Getty.

"And this face was always meant to be seen." Pansy smiled brightly and the two girls exchanged kisses on the cheek and a small hug. Pansy was quite glad it was Daphne she was running into first off, though running into Marcus or Draco wouldn't have hurt either.

"Where are you off to darling?" She noticed Daphne looking a little tired.

Laughing at her old friend's mention of gods and that face - She actually grew into it. Fancy that. - Daphne returned the hug and kisses as they had done in teenage years.

"Of course it is, darling," Daphne replied with a sassy wink. "No Slytherin Princesses are meant to hide in shadows."

Daphne linked their arms together, walking down the street with no real aim. "I own a wand shop, just down the street here. And yourself? I'm so excited to see you! You simply must tell me everything!"

Pansy couldn't help it, it was something she'd always done -the 'up and down'. Her eyes scanned Daphne quickly before they'd linked arms. Hmmph, she looks too thin.

"There's no hiding sweetheart. See or be seen." She tossed her glossy locks again, casting a sideways glance at Daphne.

"Ohhhh you own a wand shop, how lovely. You must show me." She sipped again at her coffee and let the hot liquid slide down her throat, burning her lips slightly, making them appear more red and pouting. "I'm actually off to open up my own shop. Parkinson & Burkes. I've had it all redone. None of this cobwebs and dusty, rusting rubbish... no. High class, fine items, relics, charmed jewelry, you know... things you would never find in the old store." She said 'old' with a hind of derision.

More subtly than Pansy, Daphne quickly looked her friend over. I always knew she'd never trim the excess off those hips.

"Well, that is something I am currently re-learning." And because the opportunity was too good, Daphne smirked. "Have you heard that Draco has returned to London as well? He stopped in to see me."

"I do!" Daphne beamed, the anger rising up slightly as they approached her shop. "I've had some trouble with vandals lately and of course, the Hit Wizards are no help. Oh, Parkinson and Burkes! You'll be quite close to me, we simply must have lunch." Daphne glanced at Getty behind them, the House Elf looked oddly distracted. But the witch turned back to her friend.

"High class? Well that's a switch, isn't it, pet?"

"It takes some time darling." Pansy patted Daphne's shoulder lightly and nodded, her nose up in the air slightly. "Oh really, how sweet of him to stop in and see you!" Smiling brightly at hearing that Daphne was keeping busy and wanted her to know it, Pansy giggled through the smile. Still know how to play don't we kitten? It's so good to be back.

Raising an eyebrow when Daphne pointed out her ruins of a shop she nodded. "Vandals... bloody creatures, and the Hit Wizards are no better. But you'll bounce right back, just as soon as you fix it back up, right love? And lunch sounds heavenly. A good meal does wonders doesn't it?" Pansy grinned knowingly, looking at Daphne's bony wrists... poor girl.

"It is a big switch from the old shop - I would have none of it. If it was going to have my name on it, things would have to change... and so I changed it." Feeling very proud of herself, Pansy sauntered down the road with her friend on her arm, enjoying her coffee and their banter. "Would you like the tour?"

Pleased at Pansy's excitement for her, Daphne squeezed her arm companionably. "Wasn't it just? He even insisted I attend the Ministry's Yule Ball with him." Daphne smirked knowingly, Pansy would understand this better than anyone. "They were so surprised, pet, I thought the Minister himself was going to defecate on the floor!"

Giggling at this, Daphne barely spared her shop a glance. "I wish you'd seen my little place before the vandals hit. Once I've cleared the mess you'll have to come inside."

Getty muttered about getting started and opened the shop as Pansy and Daphne moved toward Knockturn Alley. Daphne kept hold of her wits. "It will be so good to share a meal with you. I've missed you terribly. Blast my brother for keeping me locked up. And your father, darling? How is he?"

It's like being back at Hogwarts, lording over the lessers. Gods this feels good and isn't that lovely? She wants to play.

"Oh, I have to see this, darling." Daphne laughed. "Of course you did, whatever my Pansy wants, she gets." Giving her friend a wink, Daphne followed Pansy, feeling more like her old self.

Pansy smiled sweetly and tilted her head toward her friend. "Aw, how sweet of him to bring you to the Ball." She laughed softly and imagined the scene and wished she could've swanned in herself, making every head turn.

"We'll see your shop once you've um, tidied yes?"

"Father is fine and ... is that where you've been? Lynus is being a prick again?"

They walked up to Parkinson & Burkes and Pansy opened the door. With a flick of her wand, the candleabras hanging from the ceiling lit to show dark cherry wood everywhere and deep red velvet lined cases - ancient books behind the counter and countless works of art, sculptures, vases and the like lined the built in cupboards along the walls. "Voila dearest... you like?"

Daphne wished her friend had made it to the Ball. What a trio they would have made, swooping in on an unsuspecting populace.

"Of course," Daphne agreed, gritting her teeth only slightly. Fate had a cruel sense of humour, sending Pansy back into her life when her shop lay in relative ruins.

"Lynus kept me prisoner, and I mean that literally, until the term at Beaubaxtons began. Even at school I was not allowed post. I have only been back in England a year." Daphne smiled as they entered Parkinson and Burkes. "Escaping my enamoured former husband."

Daphne pulled up short when the candelabras lit, blinking rapidly. No longer was it the shadowy, dark shop that once played host to several Death Eater families and ill gotten means, but a bright and shining example of class and sophistication. "Pansy, this is wonderful."

Pansy patted her friend's shoulder lightly. "It'll clean up nicely love." They walked on though, Daphne divulging the details of her absense and her brother being a total prig.

"Oh dear, he has gotten a taste for power hasn't he?" Pansy shook her head, remembering Lynus but didn't think he'd gotten that bad, keeping Daphne prisoner - no doubt keeping her money prisoner as well. "Ah yes, how is the old ball and chain?"

Pansy was delighted and a smug smirk spread across her pretty face as she looked around her shop. "Isn't it devine? Not a cobweb in sight." She strode proudly across the dark cherry-stained wood floor, liking the way her stilettos sounded clicking on the wood. "This is going to be very lucrative... if I have anything to say about it." She posed slightly behind the counter, looking the exclusive, sophisticated owner of a high-class shoppe.

"Jean-Luc?" Daphne sighed, shaking her head. "The man is obsessive, idiotic, and restrictive. Even four years after the divorce, he likes to pretend we are still married." Bitterness crept into Daphne's tone as she moved to a display of books. "Lynus has become quite impossible, yes."

Daphne could already tell that this shop would make her friend a good deal of money and prestige. It was well executed, without the usual filth and dankness of most shops in Knockturn Alley." "It's fantastic, pet. I cannot believe this was once that filthy old shop. You've done a remarkable job."

"I'm sorry kitten. He's probably just impossible without you... though he should see someone about his lack of grip on reality." Pansy flicked her wand again, ridding the shining glass counters of any kind of dust or fingerprints. "Lynus needs a good hex right in the arse... or maybe that would loosen him up too much." Pansy winked at her friend and continued with the opening of her shop.

"Just needed my touch, my expertise is all." She turned up her pug nose at a wayward dustbunny and obliterated it in a puff of smoke. "There was no way that I would set one toe in here if it wasn't up to my standards. It had to be perfect if it was to have my name on it."

Daphne grinned. Pansy always had a way with summing things up as bluntly and truth, usually it made Daphne laugh. "Its all right, pet. Eventually he will realize that I will not tolerate mistresses under my roof." She watched Pansy meticulously oversee her shop, not surprised by the attention to detail. "Gods, Pansy!" She snorted with laughter at her friend's words. "I see your mouth is still in fine form!"

Agreeing with her, Daphne looked over more displays. Everything was in it's proper place, cleaned and shining. "Of course you would not settle for less. Those high standards cannot be driven out of you."

Pansy nodded as she made her rounds. "Hmmm, well, in some cases Mistresses are useful." She looked her friend in the eye and smiled. "They keep the husbands distracted while you have a little fun on the side." Her eyebrow perked up and she laughed, adjusting the velvet under the glass and looking up, tapping her bottom lip with her wand. "It's my most useful tool."

Winking afterward she gazed around and everything seemed to be in order to open the shop. So she aimed her wand and the sign at the front of the store glittered forth in gilt lettering that said 'open'. "They're embedded darling - only the best to achieve the best."

Daphne covered her mouth, chuckling into her palm. "That may be, but I was not having fun on the side. Perhaps if I had, I might still be married." Daphne shook her head, correcting herself. "No, he ordered me to stop my apprenticeship."

Coming closer, Daphne glanced at her friend again. "It always was. What did you tell Professor Snape in fifth year? Gods, I've never laughed that hard."

Knowing she should let her friend work, Daphne took another look around. "You've achieved more than the best here, pet. Perfection. Not that I would expect anything less."

"If it was good enough for him... you should've." Pansy raised an eyebrow and scowled. "He ordered you? I would've smacked him."

She laughed after Daphne had moved closer, reminiscing about what smart-arse remark she had made to Professor Snape, waving a hand "Oh there's too many to count, I've lost track."

"You shouldn't expect anything less... I worked hard to get every speck of dust out of here. I couldn't let this place be rubbish if I was going to run it." Speaking of dust, Pansy cast a cleaning spell on the shelves above their heads. "I'm thinking of having auctions every once in a while too. Such treasures should go to the highest bidder."

"Silly me," Daphne said with some sarcasm. "I was trying to hold true to my wedding vows. And I did not smack him, but I did hit him with a very expensive vase."

Giggling, Daphne shook her head. "I think it was something about his hair and a good cleaning charm. Ah, memories."

Daphne stood before her friend and made an interested noise in the back of her throat. "Auctions? Well, I must see this. I may have something for you to deal away for me, if you are so inclined."

"All's fair my dear." Pansy shrugged but nodded in approval when Daphne said she nailed him with a very expensive vase. "It would only be good if he paid for it... I'm assuming yes?"

"Either that or we were working with leeches and it matched perfectly... I can't remember." Pansy tapped a well-manicured finger to her bottom lip and smirked nonetheless.

"Yes, auctions are a great way to get more money out of a product that's been lying around - creates competition and people are always wanting to show off how much money they can spend... I just get to have it after they're done. " Said smugly, Pansy tapped her wand on the old-fashioned cash register and grinned at the dinging noise it made. "That's the sound of power, right there."

Daphne waggled her brows. "Oh of course he did. He also paid for my move, my legal fees and several other little tidbits that popped up during the divorce."

She laughed again. "It might have been the leeches, the years have softened the memory, I'm afraid."

Smirking, Daphne watched her friend's pleasure at taking galleons and shook her head slowly. "You're a cruel bitch, Pansy Parkinson. And I've missed that cruel bitch so!" Waving her hand at the register, Daphne agreed. "It is. I get so much pleasure out of my own work. I'll bring the items I need to sell soon, though. What is your commission?"

"Good... don't ever break anything you bought yourself, it's such a waste." Pansy was still giggling at laying waste to other people's incomes and the many many comments she had about Professor snape when Daphne said that she missed her.

"Well, I'm still as cruel as always, just have a little bit more running through my veins. I've missed you too pet." She winked quickly and recited how the auctions went. "Well, just bring them by, I'll appraise them and any kind of documentation you have to go with the items and I'll let you know the amount the bids will start at. After that, it's your standard 20%" Pansy closed the register again, having transported the day's float into the trays.

"Of course not. I only break his things or things he bought me. Though one of my finer moments was throwing all of his clothes into the lake on the estate. The man loved his clothing and I ruined it all." Daphne cackled smugly at the recollection.

"Don't ever change, pet, and we mustn't lose touch again!" Daphne listened carefully as Pansy went over her auction specifications. "That seems reasonable. I'll be sure to bring them by as soon as I can. You'd be shocked at the amount of old keepsakes I managed to get from the house before...well, before."

"Good job darling... I hope it was particularily muddy." Pansy grinned wickedly and laughed in the bach of her throat.

"When have I ever changed before, I just get better and better... or worse and worse, whichever you like." Pansy leaned on the counter, her chin in her hand and smiled at Daphne after she'd explained the auction process. "Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere soon... and if those keepsakes are just collecting dust, might as well turn them into cash. It'll make you much happier."

"Filled to the brim with algae for his prize-winning fish, actually." Daphne confirmed with a wink.

"I prefer worse and worse, actually. I'll not be moving anywhere in the foreseeable future either, though I do need to get back to my shop. Promise me we'll have dinner. Soon!" Daphne grinned, smoothing her hair. "Well, who can't use a bit of cash every now and then, mmm?"

"Oooo, wonderful and slimy.... delicious pet." Pansy actually cackled at the picture of Daphne's prick of a husband fishing out his clothes covered in green goop.

"I prefer it that way too, and yes, send me an owl when all things are settled with your shop and we'll have some dinner." Pansy straightened up and touched the register. "I could use a bit more all the time." And with a huge grin she blew a couple quick kisses Daphne's way. "Take care of that shop of yours, and yourself. I'll be around to check up on you."

A customer came through the door as Daphne leaned over the counter, kissing each of Pansy's cheeks once more. "That sounds like a plan, mon chou. Do come round to check up on me. Merlin knows I can get into trouble all by myself!"

She moved away from the counter, waving fondly.

Pansy did wish she could see the look on his face, probably as sour as a lemon.

Though even as she was laughing about it, the bell above the door rang and some customers came in. "Yes, we'll get up to some mischief. I'm around and now you know where to find me."

Pansy waved and put on her best face in order to sell some of her wares after Daphne had left.
