Week 3: October 26th-Nov 1

WEEK 3: Oct 26th, 2025 - Nov 1st, 2025

Headlines for the week

Tuesday
In a shocking announcment in federal court today, Sergei Popov was convicted of federal RICO charges for his criminal activity as part of an ongoing criminal organization. Popov, a purported underboss for the Russian syndicate, was arrested over a year ago on suspicion of embezzling union funds and money laundering. Today Popov was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in federal prison. Ron Bergman, US Attorney is quoted as saying this is a monumental step forward in the war against organized crime.

Wednesday
As word of the unprecedented conviction of Sergei Popov flooded Chicago yesterday, so did the rise of tempers. People took to the streets surrounding the courthouse and protested what they felt was an unfair verdict. Mostly of Russian descent protesters remained peaceful during daylight hours but the streets took on a decidedly violent turn as night fell. Storefronts in the area reported broken windows, several cars were set on fire and it took police in riot gear to disperse the crowd around 3am.

Saturday
The big event. The annual Masquerade Ball at the Newberry library. Who's who of Chicago society and everyone else will be at the library at 8pm, masks donned for a night of intrigue and charity.
(There will be a post for this ball placed in the main rpg community)

Sunday
Shots were reported fired at the Newberry Library sometime after midnight. No injuries were reported nor were any witnesses found. Police arrived at the scene much to the surprise of masquerade go-ers as they left the Newberry Library. No other information is available at this time.
