Continued from here.
Rupert smiled at Fred when she slipped the ring back on her finger. It looked good there. Right. Not so long ago, he would never have thought himself as getting married. Ever. It didn't seem to be something that he could have in his life. And he knew there were a lot of things that he couldn't do or have. A house in the suburbs, for example.
But this, with Fred, was right. She had showed with Ethan that she could more than handle herself - she was an equal in every way, magic-wise, intelligence-wise, and that was what he needed. That was what he wanted and had never even realized until they had met.
After they had stopped at Best Buy and purchased the television and DVD player that Fred wanted, they went back to the penthouse. He looked over at Fred in concern when she collapsed onto the couch, knowing that she had to be shattered after everything. Last night's sleep surely would not have been enough even after what Ethan had done to her, and then she had expended a great deal of energy in the magic they had cast against him.
"You need to rest, love," he said softly. Reaching down, he picked her up and carried her upstairs to place her on the bed. He used a bit of magic to make her more comfortable before cuddling up with her. "I'll stay here with you while you sleep if you'd like."
