"Although religion is political, it should not be partisan"

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]wyldraven)

Finding the right mix of politics and religion
By The Rev. Patrick Howell
Special to The Seattle Times

Excerpt:

At the core of my research will be a piece on "Saving Jesus." There you have it: the key insight. Can we save Jesus? Can we "let Jesus be Jesus?" In fact, I'm advocating a kind of political AA (Politics Anonymous, if you will) and the First Step in political recovery for Christians is to "let Jesus be Jesus," to acknowledge a "higher power" — higher than a person's own political authority. Features of Political Anonymous would be a grounding in humility, a healthy appreciation of one's own talents, respect for others and an awareness of one's own potential blindness.
Reverend Howell makes some important points, and ones that may be useful in talking to undecided / moderate Christians. Perhaps things like this can open a few closed minds as well.
