I know that there are a lot of people interested in disaster preparedness- especially in the wake of Katrina.

Considering how the government is going with its dismantlement of government preparedness programs in favor of faith based programs, it seems that the best thing to do is do it yourself. I found a community that is focused on this subject, making_a_plan. This isn't a foil hat, religious, or end times site, it's a place where people can talk about and share practical thoughts about preparing for a disaster of any sort. It's a new community, so it'll take a bit of time to blossom.
