Stephen Harper goes down to defeat

And unlike soon to be former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, he's accepting the defeat...

Well this is interesting and while Slight off-topic does relate in a round about way

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]navytron89) Well this is one way some one is striking back at Christmas Consumerism in the Holiday season.

I'm  kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop here.....
I wonder how soon the Religious Reich will be using this as a way to cry about the "War on Christmas" and I interested to hear what Bill O'Reilly has to say about this and then see if he really can wrap his little pea-brain around it.

I'm so making an icon out of that picture too...... >: )

Tis The Season for Bellringers

I lost my links to information regarding problems with the Salvation Army.

Does anyone have some good ones handy?

Update: Found some of the links I was thinking about in a post by [info]dogemperor on [info]hurricane_fema last September:Quote about Salvation Army, with links )

manliness is next to godliness (x-post)

I'm sorry if someone already posted this & I missed it. I really don't want to read about religion on the front page of the LA Times, but since apparently knowing about Christianity is more important than knowing about what's going on in the world... this is the column one article.

Manliness is next to godliness

Macho religion. The clock is ticking, Margaret Atwood...

It would seem that if I am forced to learn about religion, that maybe the article on Conservative Judaism allowing gays & lesbians to be ordained might be more newsworthy than "christianity is butching up". I mean, they got to it with about 3 inches - on page 32 - after the macho Jesus article continued for another full quarter page.

Reference help

This came up in conversationwith a friend who's getting fucked by a hospital in my hometown, but I have no source material for it, I'm hoping someone here can assist.

Last year when the Terry Schiavo maddness was going on there was a little covered story about a young boy in Texas who was taken off life support against his mother's wishes and solely on the wishes of the hospital for financial reasons. The law allowing this to happen was signed by none other than W himself when he was TX-Guv.

Anyone know where I can source this?

Thank you very much.

Dennis Prager— the radio host who's gained some infamy here lately after criticizing Keith Ellison for not swearing in on a Bible— was also Bush's appointee to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.

The Right Man and 'Creative Agnosticism'

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]catvincent)

I've often mentioned here the theory of the Right Man/Violent Male as a model for the behaviour of the Dominionists. This was created by AE van Vogt and later developed by Colin Wilson - but there's not much about it online.

Here is a lengthy but excellent consideration of the model by Robert Anton Wilson, which puts the model in context.
