Sexy Preachers?

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]eiredrake) One Preacher's Message - Have Hotter Sex

Now this is a preacher I could get behind. I'm posting it, because it shows a contrast between our Enemy the religious right and others of the Christian faith. Not all Christians are right wing dominionist wing nuts. I think that preachers like this could be used to our advantage ( as much as I hate that phrase ). The Bible has prohibitions on spilling seed ( though from what I read the Onan thing was more about not obeying god than masterbation ), having sex/lust with anyone/thing other than your opposite sex partner. But it doesn't say that a hubby and wifey can't get buck wild.

I dont' believe in a diety, but I do believe much like this preacher, that Sex is one of the greatest 'gifts' given to us. We evolved sex as a necessity for the survival of species. But survival doesn't mean it needs to feel good. Sex feels good to keep us wanting to do it despite the dangers involved in it. We're hormonally wired to want it. Enjoying regular sex has been shown to improve and lengthen life, reduce stress, and prevent disease ( like prostate cancer ). Perhaps the reason our right wing friends want to make all our lives miserable is because they're not getting enough of it? Think about it? Are you generally mad after sex? Do you want to smack somebody? Do you want to take away their rights? No. You just want a twinkie and a nap. You feel peaceful and relaxed the next day.

So, encouraging preachers like this will have benefits. If those prairie muffins out there were suddenly enjoying sex instead of just being at their husband's whim for reproductive purposes maybe they wouldn't be so up tight.

Encouraging more moderate preachers ( or at least less crazy ones ) also helps because it will embolden them in the fight. The battle against the religious right hurts everyone. The more people we have on our side, especially Christians, the better. The moderating force would help to dilute the bile and rancor that has been festering in the hearts of the right wingers. Maybe the way to beat them is the way the Hippies did it in the 60's. Trade love for hate. Teach them how to love and maybe they won't hate so much.

Debating Dominionists

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]jarandhel)

Came up with an interesting thought today:

Dominionists are all biblical literalists.
Biblical literalists believe the Bible is the inerrant word of god, transmitted literally down through the centuries unaltered. They believe in a process of divine inspiration which has allowed this amazing feat; in their words "God protects his Word."

Many of us have argued against this on the basis of the many books removed from the bible, the questionable nature of the translation, and similar concerns. Universally, we have been brushed off by the Dominionists.

What if we use some of their own beliefs against them, though?

Dominionists do not believe that all modern translations of the bible are created equal.

So here is a simple question for them: if God himself has protected the bible through inspiration enough for it to come down through the centuries intact as the unaltered and inerrant Word of God... what made him stop doing that since the invention of the printing press, if we have all these different translations around now?
