Any idea about BOND? I've got to wonder about any group that Sean Hannity is a member of.

Accessible Airwaves

The United Church of Christ, a far-more-accepting-than-most mainline Christian denomination, has been having trouble getting an ad aired, lightly poking fun at some churches mistreatment of certain groups (minorities, single mothers, homosexuals, etc), to underscore their message of openness and inclusion.

In response, the UCC has set up a blog, http://accessibleairwaves.org, to organize information and action to convince the networks to stop discriminating in favor of the religious right. Some people here might be interested in checking them out. [Audio alert: the site currently has a copy of the ad in question embeded on the front page of the blog, so the audio from the ad might start coming out of your speakers]

I really don't understand how they can claim to be victims of a war or persecution. Honestly, I wish I could bring people from Darfur, from China, from Iraq to this conference, march them all in front of the rich, comfortable, well-fed, only in danger from their own fevered minds patriarch-wannabes, then announce to these wingnuts that THIS is what real victims of war, persecution, and marginalization look like, and until they sell all their goods to help these people, to kindly shut up about being "victims."

OMG A WAR ON CHRISTIANITY!!!!11!

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]jamie_miller)

DeLay says he sees war on Christianity in U.S.

American society looks down on Christianity, U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay asserted Tuesday at a conference of religious conservatives, but God and Jesus Christ have chosen Christians to stand up for faith.

... The Sugar Land Republican said some commentators — the "chattering classes" — will argue that there is no war on Christianity in this country.

"But in a sense, there always has been and always will be," he said. "Our faith has always been in direct conflict with the values of the world. We are, after all, a society that provides abortion on demand, has killed millions of innocent children, degrades the institution of marriage and all but treats Christianity like some second-rate superstition."

I also had a rant appended to this link and quote, but I decided not to post it. It's in my journal if you really want to see it.

This just showed up in my inbox. . .

I don't think they realized that I was one of the people who answered all the demographic questions "correctly" - Christian, white, middle-class, etc - and still disagreed with them. I figure if they're going to start another petition, I'm going to post the link here so all of you lovely people (Canadians, at least, and I can get you a few postal codes if you're interested in padding the vote, as the other side is doubtless doing) can vote against re-establishing the traditional definition of marriage.

A little humor from Something Awful

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]ns_kumiho)

Unfortunately the general population is lazy and evil and secular, whereas the power base feeding the current administration tends to be zealous religious folks who want God to be President and Jesus to be Vice-President and believe the apocalypse is right around the corner. I am lazy and evil and secular and I also believe the apocalypse is right around the corner, mostly because of zealous religious folks influencing government, if not running it. I just want religion and politics to be as far apart as possible, because mixing the two inevitably results in insanity and trouble. On the plus side, I kind of hope they do succeed, because I honestly can't imagine having to pay back student loans in a post-apocalyptic environment where every day is a fight for survival.

...

In South Dakota, abortion has pretty much been outlawed because God or somebody else not doing anything to help matters frowns upon it. This angers me to no end because now my simple dream of moving there and opening a small abortion clinic/corn palace/reptile garden/drug store is impossible and illegal.

...

If all the aforementioned starving children of the world would just end up in a permanent vegetative state and go on feeding tubes or climb inside the womb of an unfit teenage girl, they would be loved and cherished by millions of people. This is of course as long as those people do not have to take any actual responsibility or action aside from standing outside of some building and yelping a lot. There is always time for that, because that's doing the Lord's work. Everyone else can take care of themselves.

Potential Dominionist Physician Website

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]liz_marcs)

Came across this in the course of my work today and found it interesting (and annoying and infuriating).

I was doing some research on a piece I was writing about physician specialty qualifications and I needed some quick and dirty information on what hoops pediatricians need to jump through in order to be licensed and receive specialty certifications.

Now, in the U.S., most specialties have a semi-official organization that spells these qualifications out. Approximately 95% of the time, it's something like, "American College of [Insert Your Medical Specialty Here]." It usually has links back to the American Board of Medical Specialities as well as links to physician educational and professional resources.

So, you'd think looking for the American College of Pediatricians would be a safe bet for me.

Right?

WRONG!

If you're proud of being a Christian organization, maybe you should stop hiding it. )
