Favorite book?

A lady is suing a school board in PA because they wouldn't let her read a Bible passage to a kindergarten class:

I seriously question whether this is her kid's favorite passage -- it sounds like something Samuel L. Jackson might have said before killing someone in a movie:

(Psalms 118)

0 All nations compassed me about:
but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them.
11 They compassed me about;
yea, they compassed me about:
but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.
12 They compassed me about like bees;
they are quenched as the fire of thorns:
for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.
13 Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall: but the LORD helped me.
14 The LORD is my strength and song,
and is become my salvation.

The "Anti-Christ."

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]orak_tor)

The setting: Wal Mart. The plot (or that other term I forgot): clothes shopping, for my brother. So, naturally, I have nothing to do with it...and one favorite place of mine to venture off to is the magazine rack - always has been. AND, so well perched, to the left of the rack is a string of books, most being Christian is publication.

But, on a small island of books outside of the aisle, one book particularly caught my eye. Still knowing this rack is mostly Chrisitan titles, I pick up this "one" book, holding my breath... ...and by it's idiocy, makes me want to gouge out my eyes: "The How-to's Guide to Survive the End of The World." (OR something of that nature.)

I flip to one spot, and find: "How to spot the Anti-Chirst." Ok... I read, and find shit I already knew: the head wound, "enemy of God," blah blah. But, then I turn the page and see the word, "Jewishness." I wanted to cry. It says that one of the pre-requisites of the Anti-Christ IS to be Jewish. Just then, the NEED to get over the PA system chot through me. TO TELL the rest of the store of idiocy in print.

(However, I didn't. And I regret it. ::smirks::) The chaos would be fun - but with a purpose.

Theocracy fear is not liberal hysteria

Here's another article that breaches the mainstream about the theocratic thrust of the Christocrats:

Fear of a Christian theocracy isn't just liberal hysteria

By Jonathan Chait
SPECIAL TO THE LOS ANGELES TIMES

Conservatives have been arguing for years that the religious right is simply misunderstood. These vilified godly folks don't want to impose their beliefs on anybody else, we're told. They simply want to defend their traditional beliefs and practices against the aggressive impositions of a secular culture. Therefore any suggestion to the contrary is liberal hysteria or, worse, discrimination against "people of faith."

So how do conservatives explain what's been going on at the Air Force Academy?

As a number of newspapers have documented, the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., has essentially established evangelical Christianity as its official religion.

The examples are legion. Last season, the football coach hung a banner in the locker room laying out a "Competitor's Creed," including the lines "I am a Christian first and last" and "I am a member of Team Jesus Christ."Read more... )
